There's a reason the 4G63 is such a legendary engine.. Well.. block at least lol...
Such basic roots back in the 80's to what it became... and why so many love this Engine. ..Me.. very much so... as well as the 4AGE....
Huge thanks for showing us what you found...
Side note: ummm 500-600kw block... then becomes deficient ...really??!.. Pretty impressive..
    coming from an 80's design!!!
Anyone would know that's far beyond the limit from a stock 2lt block... 20 years ago... When the Tommi Makinen Edition was released... you think, that anyone thought that 500-600kw would be achievable through the Mitso 4G63??
Just glad that engine builders and tuners had the brains and talent to bring these engines to such a huge level...
with an iron casting......lol... at least it's acoustically dead... that's a plus...

Its the amount of air the heads flow, somewhere in the 300cfm with stock ports. VCT to help with low end torque aswell as VTEC, small cam for low rpm, big cam for high rpm, very smooth and linear engine thats very eager to rev, 8500rpm redline from factory, 9000rpm redline with a tuned ecu or higher in built motors, bottom ends are also very robust, well known to take 320-340wkw on completely stock engines (stock head, stock bottom end completey unopened) with boost on e85, ive had a look at the bottom ends also and noticed the girdle is tied into the block, similar to that of a plazmaman billet girdle that is made for an SR20. After playing with RBs, SR20s including doing a VE head swap and now having done a K series build i can say the engineering put into the K series is what makes it a great motor.

More importantly the 5sfe as they have true siamese bores the length of the cylinder unlike the 3sge/3sgte blocks, hence the common 5sgte builds seen in the MR2/Alltrac community. All 5 generations of 3sge/3sgte blocks have a 30-40mm cavity between bores at the top of the cylinders, (I assume for more cooling surface area where the most heat is generated and to create a more interconnected coolant flow path) which is the reason for the common cracking in builds over 3-400wkw (obviously turbo/fuel/application dependant, cylinder pressure vs RPM associated with these power levels being the defining reason for failures) ALL generations of 5sfe and some 3sfe feature the full siamese cylinders (some 3sfe cars used 3sgx blocks as they are fundamentally interchangable, unlike the larger bore 5sfe 87mm vs 86mm Depending on the location and time of production, due to over production of 3sge/3sgte blocks relative to demand, the cavity can be seen through the front frost plug holes if you are looking to confirm what block is actually being used..) there is also a well known cracking issue around the head bolt hole nearest the water pump, Toyota added extra material to all S series blocks in this area from 1996, these are known as 'straight edge blocks' and can easily be identified by the straight edge and generally thicker area around the deck face by the water pump instead of the previous generations where it followed the contour of the cylinder and a bulge is seen where the bottom of the head bolt/stud would bottom out. Again due to old stock being used, not all 1996 blocks feature this and it's generally accepted that it is not a guarantee untill 1997-8 depending on who you ask. There is also word about American cast 5sfe blocks (known as 'square boss' due to the raised square areas where the freeze plugs are located) which are rumored to have thicker cylinders/decks but I have seen 0 evidence proving this unlike everything else mentioned here.

All 3sge/3sgte blocks are weak in-between cylinders, if you're shooting for over 300wkw I'd suggest finding a 1997+ 3sfe/5sfe or you'll be cracking bore eventually

I love these tests. I don't know if Australia has 4G64 or 2.4L examples there, but I'd be curious to see what they're like. It has a taller deck, and perhaps a thicker deck. They do have a bigger bore as well, but that might equate to thinner cylinder walls. Furthermore, I'd like to see if Hyundai or Kia blocks are any different from Mitsubishi blocks. I don't know of anyone else doing this kind of testing for the public's knowledge base.

I'm going to save them the comment, they're a sleaved block so there's not much of a point in testing if you plan on pushing over 800hp reliably it's better to start with an iron block or getting a resleaved block

    Very interesting.
Wonder how Tilton go about their builds seeing this as they are making well over 5-600kw and still using the cast block instead of going billet like what Michael Baghdadi did with his 8.

They're many 4g63 engines well over 1000hp, never heard of a cracked 4g63 block. Toughest 4 cylinder engine they're is.
