    I've always just used the Standard Picture Profile in my Sony Cameras. I just start using S-Cinetone in my Sony a7siii and am now starting to use it on my recently purchased Sony FX30 (which I love!!). Eventually I'll play around with S-Log3, but for now I'll hold off until I learn more from watching videos like this. Thanks for sharing.

    Glad someone is showing folks you can have both S-log3 with S-cinetone colors. It's a dream to color correct skin. Also making 2 color profiles back to back one with S-log3 w. SGamut3.Cine the other with S-Log3 w. S-cinetone and it's jarring how much of a better base point of yellow red and orange are with S-cinetone.

      Right. This is what they meant by "venice color" coming to the A7S iii correct? Log profile but color science from the bigger camera...?

    Great video! I’ve been using S-Cinetone recently but went back to S-log 3. There are so many slamming luts out there that are soooo good. I also noticed that in order to control specular highlights with s-cinetone I needed more diffusion than with S-log 3 which I wasn’t a fan of. Thanks for the comparison 👏🏾

      Yeah, they’re definitely made for different processes. It’s nice to have a solid looking option for straight out of camera filmic looks... but I’m probably not gonna use it much when I have the control of s-log 3

    I have a question that may require video to answer fully. I am not a cinematographer. I shoot videos for my UA-cam channel for my business. I don't have the time or desire to learn about color grading. I just want the best image I can get straight out of my A7s3. Do you have a recommendation for the settings you'd recommend for this scenario? I shoot mainly indoors.

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  3 роки тому +1

      Honestly, if you don’t want to grade at all... I would either use the new s-cinetone profile (PP11) or just use the standard look. It’s “what you see is what you get” with both of those so just expose it to look good on camera. I was honestly really happy with the look that they got on the standard profile in the a7s3. They’ve come a long way with skin tones.

Also, Slog-3 requires an ND filter for sunny days as it starts on 640 ISO and I have to switch to F18 or more to compensate for it without a filter. Do you use Slog-3 with Cinetone colors or do you still prefer Slog-3 with Sgamut3.cine? It might be a better way than HLG3 if I use an ND filter. Also, what do you think about using different picture profiles for different settings for the same project? Sorry, fail to see the benefit. If you so unconcerned with image quality and are unwilling to use S-log 3. Does this subtle difference really amount to anything? Don't get me wrong, another tool is always good but this one to me such a minor change that the subtle difference does not seem worth the effort.

      S-Log3 needs to be graded.
      S-cinetone doesn’t necessarily but has a slightly more filmic look straight out of camera. So if you don’t want to or don’t have time to grade... it can be quicker.

      @@dunnadidit I understand the concept. Do you think S-cinetoneh :) looks better than the standard profile? I was saying I don't see the big benefit in that. Maybe I am missing something. In your example it only did a subtle adjustment to the yellow and it did not seem that big a deal to me. Perhaps you could show two videos so we could see the difference. Again it was so subtle I didn't think it was that big of a difference over standard profile. If you are saying it is some huge improvement I will have to take your word for it because I am not seeing it. In other words, I am not familiar enough with the effect to see a video and say.. OMG, that is the beautiful S-cinetone effect being used on that video... over the standard profile.

      I hear you. I don’t think it’s supposed to be a big massive change. Just the subtle tweaks to the color and the change in the luminance curve to make it look a bit more filmic. And I think they’ve succeeded. It’s super subjective whether it looks “better” or not and might be situational depending on what you need but I do think that it succeeds at what they were trying to do with it. When I see the standard profile, it looks like a video camera, when I see a-cinetone, it looks a little more “cinematic”

      @@dunnadidit Thanks for the info. I will look again and try to see what you are seeing, video camera vs more cinema like. Thanks
