I've always just used the Standard Picture Profile in my Sony Cameras. I just start using S-Cinetone in my Sony a7siii and am now starting to use it on my recently purchased Sony FX30 (which I love!!). Eventually I'll play around with S-Log3, but for now I'll hold off until I learn more from watching videos like this. Thanks for sharing.

SGamut3.Cine the other with S-Log3 w. S-cinetone and it's jarring how much of a better base point of yellow red and orange are with S-cinetone.
Great video! I’ve been using S-Cinetone recently but went back to S-log 3. There are so many slamming luts out there that are soooo good. I also noticed that in order to control specular highlights with s-cinetone I needed more diffusion than with S-log 3 which I wasn’t a fan of. Thanks for the comparison 👏🏾
Yeah, they’re definitely made for different processes. It’s nice to have a solid looking option for straight out of camera filmic looks... but I’m probably not gonna use it much when I have the control of s-log 3
I don't color grade at all due to red/green color deficiency in my normal vision. I hope the s-cinetone profile will allow me to produce acceptable results SOC.
I know this is incredibly niche but as a colorblind man this is EXACTLY what I need and I cant wait to give it a shot! Im sure my wife will be thrilled too as I wont have to pester her as much to check and make sure the whole image isnt incredibly blue lol

It's a fantastic and welcome addition to the A7Siii repertoire but as you say, not a direct replacement for S-Log3 Great to have the choice now though and will definitely be a major upgrade for those who don't want to color grade
Hey! S-cinetone has a Max of 109 (which is the highest zebras go) so if you’re just trying not to clip, I’d set it to 107 or so and make sure you don’t have any clipped areas.

It seemed like everyone was recommending that profile a couple years back. I'm interested in using this S-log-cinetone combo you mentioned, if only I had LUTs for that profile.... I have a question that may require video to answer fully. I am not a cinematographer. I shoot videos for my UA-cam channel for my business. I don't have the time or desire to learn about color grading. I just want the best image I can get straight out of my A7s3. Do you have a recommendation for the settings you'd recommend for this scenario? I shoot mainly indoors.
Honestly, if you don’t want to grade at all... I would either use the new s-cinetone profile (PP11) or just use the standard look. It’s “what you see is what you get” with both of those so just expose it to look good on camera. I was honestly really happy with the look that they got on the standard profile in the a7s3. They’ve come a long way with skin tones.

Yeah, I think they’ll probably keep it for their more expensive (or maybe just newer) cameras but if you understand the concepts and you really want that look, you might be able to get something similar with some grading!
Maybe you can replicate the look by tweaking the picture profiles I think someone has a profile for the A7 3 I can't remember the Chanel at the moment. I think extrashot a nice guy or something like that.
certain situations call for certain picture profiles in my opinion! more controlled, ill do scinetone, uncontrolled environments will be slog3. dope video brother!
Nice. For a shoot, would love all these options. For shooting my silly face for UA-cam videos, I'd just stick with what looks good assuming the WB is legit. I'm still on an a7RIII so no assassintone for me, but I know next to nothing about grading and stick to the standard color profile (with some tweaks to the saturation, thanks to Mr. Brockhurst for that advice!) and since I'm primarily a photographer who occasionally shoots video, that's absolutely cool with me -- I just can't grasp a lot of the video stuff, even though I'd like to!
I know this has absolutely nothing to do with the video. But I am really torn choosing the correct camera to capture my videos. Basically I want to start a Real Estate channel where I am going to be discussing different houses. And there is going to be some walking with the camera and I don't have a crew. So I need a camera with great autofocus and in camera stabilization for under 2K any suggestions?

Maximum zebra level on s-log3 is 93 anything above that will clip. Maximum level on s-cinetone is 109. For s-log3 I generally try to expose to the right without clipping. For a-cine tone, I watch for clipping but for the most part I just use my eye to expose to what looks good in the monitor.
I really don't get the need for setting the detail to anything below zero... When I feel like one of the big things people try to fight against when shooting with a consumer grade non cinema camera is smudginess. I feel to the client/random viewer its just going to subconsciously come across to them as lower resolution.
@@dunnadidit Make sure to check out the S-cinetone "hack" by Extrashot for a7III! I tried it on my camera and it looks awesome and gets really close to the real S-cinetone. It's one of the videos shown in the intro.
Hi, i Use the scinetone profile with the Lemming lut. S cinetone movie Looks better with leeming lut as without or Natur. . Its Not Wohle true That scinetone natur is ready to go, Looks flat and has week Contrast. Try it out, Use the leeming lut for scinetone and see it is more better as Natur.
Thank you for the cinetone review. I decided to try HLG3 because it seems to have a good compromise of having some colors and a nice dynamic range. Also, Slog-3 requires an ND filter for sunny days as it starts on 640 ISO and I have to switch to F18 or more to compensate for it without a filter. Do you use Slog-3 with Cinetone colors or do you still prefer Slog-3 with Sgamut3.cine? It might be a better way than HLG3 if I use an ND filter. Also, what do you think about using different picture profiles for different settings for the same project? Say HLG3 for much light and Slog-3 for slightly darker environments, does it affect editing times or make it harder? Thank you again, very much appreciated..
@@dunnadidit I know it’s a big investment. The pocket 4K has amazing image quality and I love BRAW but I don’t like the fact I have to have a huge rig to get the full use out of it. And I love the a6400 because it’s small and compact and I can run and gun, but the 8 bit codec falls apart with it. It’s half the reason I never use slog with it, because it’s becomes so blotchy with 8-bit. Obviously for photography the stills are amazing. I am a hybrid shooter, but I’m more focused on video. And I feel like 12MP is perfectly fine for social media.
I did exactly that Holland Cloak Media. I had 2 x Pocket 4Ks and sold them both. The Sony advantage with image stabilisation and incredible face/eye/object auto focus tracking is just superb. The benefits list is very long! Great battery life, full frame image, weather sealed, amazing stills etc! I’ve been over the moon with my decision.
Sony are marketing geniuses. They knew that the word Cinetone would make everyone pi in their pants. OK, now I have the perfect profile and obviously since it's called cinetone I am capable of shooting a sequal to Gone With the Wind with absolutely no problems. I still don't understand why this magic color profile has not been compared to Cine 1 and 2 but more so to slog3. And what happened to slog2. Anyway I just hope that you lucky people who have access to this miraculous profile will use it wisely and that it may be an inspiration and a stimulus to create beautiful cinematography.
The whole idea of cinematic is light and shadow . You seem to be in the mode of getting rid of shadow . I guess S-Cinetone would slow your row as far as LUT sales and tutorials but I say please don’t try to convince people that the right way is the wrong way.

S-Log3 needs to be graded. S-cinetone doesn’t necessarily but has a slightly more filmic look straight out of camera. So if you don’t want to or don’t have time to grade... it can be quicker.

In your example it only did a subtle adjustment to the yellow and it did not seem that big a deal to me. Perhaps you could show two videos so we could see the difference. If you are saying it is some huge improvement I will have to take your word for it because I am not seeing it. In other words, I am not familiar enough with the effect to see a video and say.. OMG, that is the beautiful S-cinetone effect being used on that video... over the standard profile.
I hear you. I don’t think it’s supposed to be a big massive change. Just the subtle tweaks to the color and the change in the luminance curve to make it look a bit more filmic. And I think they’ve succeeded. It’s super subjective whether it looks “better” or not and might be situational depending on what you need but I do think that it succeeds at what they were trying to do with it. When I see the standard profile, it looks like a video camera, when I see a-cinetone, it looks a little more “cinematic”

Unfortunately, I don’t know if there is a way in premiere other than adding a transform lut but it’s not quite the same.

I'm confused there's 2 settigns, picutre profile and gamma. Do I set both of them to S cinetone for it to work or just the profile?

If you are saying it is some huge improvement I will have to take your word for it because I am not seeing it. In other words, I am not familiar enough with the effect to see a video and say.. OMG, that is the beautiful S-cinetone effect being used on that video... over the standard profile.
I hear you. I don’t think it’s supposed to be a big massive change. Just the subtle tweaks to the color and the change in the luminance curve to make it look a bit more filmic. And I think they’ve succeeded. It’s super subjective whether it looks “better” or not and might be situational depending on what you need but I do think that it succeeds at what they were trying to do with it. When I see the standard profile, it looks like a video camera, when I see a-cinetone, it looks a little more “cinematic”
