I'm not a parent, I'm a gay male, and I've watched the commercial 4 times now and I cry every time because this is a short movie about real, relatable people and lives worth living, a small look into possibilities and all the joy and heartbreak that go with living. No activism, no preaching. I love it.
I just saw the Volvo advertisement. My wife and I have 3 children. My oldest has been driving for a year. My second child will start driving next year. Me and my family have been General Motors (Chevrolet) supporters for generations, since the 1950s. I never considered Volvo, but after that ad, we will be visiting a Volvo dearlship.
We've been Ford, for no other reason than our parents were. With our 2 young kids in in car seats and my wife needing a new vehicle soon, we'll absolutely be checking out Volvo's offerings as well. /Chris
Volvo driver since the 90's, proud parent and yes, of course my kid drives a Volvo - the slogan "Volvo for Life" was in place for decades and it's real. It's all we drive...
My husband sent me the ad today with the message "I love you guys" (we have a baby boy). I was super confused at first but I understood after watching it. We are genuinely considering getting a volvo now once we need to get a new vehicle.
"Nonsense" is too less of a word. Even if they wanted to go woke, they could've followed a path like Renault did with the "clio 30 years in the making". Woke, yet beautiful. Jaguar is the worst ad in the history of humanity
We drove a Volvo for years and the safety of the product was the selling point for us. Our oldest granddaughter drives it now. Volvo knows its audience. Clearly, Jaguar has lost its way.
I feel like everyone I know with a Volvo it's been a multi-generational car which speaks volumes in and of itself. I feel like I know what Jaguar thought they were doing. Their current clientele aren't making the cash register ring so they're trying to break through to younger demos..the problem is (IMHO) the brand they're putting out isn't one that resonates with the portion of the younger demo who can afford their offerings. It'll be an interesting year ahead to find out whether it pays off for them or accelerates their tailspin. Credit for the big swing, but I fear it's a miss. /Chris
Absolutely, I dont care for long movie ads or woke bollocks. Im interested in what the car has to offer. 1 build quality, price 2 reliability 3 suits my needs 4 less tech bullshit. Simples. Volvo are tried and tested, tough, less reliable now than they were unfortunately due to the unnecessary complexity.
A while ago, BMW released a series of long form ads, filmed by Hollywood who's who, one of them starring Madonna that also did well. People will sit and watch an ad that tells a compelling story. Well done Volvo. Relatedly, Subaru recently released an ad for their Outback where a dad and daughter walk away from an accident involving their Outback as his wife comes to get them in another... also point well taken.
What’s your opinion on their commercial series about a decade ago where they collaborated with famous Swedish people like Zlatan, Robyn, Avicii etc? Also, what do you think of the truck commercial they did with Van Damme doing the epic split? It’s on my top ten list of most memorable commercials.
I'll have to check out the series you're talking about, if I've seen it it's not ringing a bell. The Van Damme split ad is LEGENDARY. Just absurd enough of a stunt to make the world watch, but it ties enough into the value prop of the trucks that it's not "art for art's sake". /Chris
@ I agree with you about the Volvo trucks commercial. I think you can search for “Volvo Vintersaga” on UA-cam and “Volvo zlatan/Robyn/Avicii” and the commercials should come up. Especially Vintersaga is beautiful but I’m a bit biased as a Swede.
Volvo have always had great ads, worth checking out their 1980s magazine adverts. Anyway, I'm not sure this is really a fair comparison. Volvo have a specific model of car they would like you to buy. Jaguar don't, and won't until 2026. Their 'ad' is about generating publicity (great success so far) and a total reset of brand perception (time will tell).
hmmm you mean people want a safe car, instead of buying a car that is inclusive, diverse, for of inequity.. FYI ALL.. 2800 ABORTIONS EVERY SINGLE DAY IN USA...2800 X 365 = ONE MILLION TWENTY TWO THOUSAND ABORTIONS EVERY YEAR According to WHO, every year in the world there are around 73 million induced abortions. This corresponds to approximately 200,000 abortions per day. In the USA, where nearly 30% of pregnancies are unintended and 40% of these are terminated by abortion, there are between 1,500 to 2,500 abortions per day.
Love the humanity of the Volvo ad; whereas, the Jaguar ad sucks. 🤦🏼♀️
My father survive a frontal crash driving a volvo. Grateful to volvo for life. And yeah Jaguar sucks.

Grew up with Volvo here in Sweden. They make great cars that feels super smooth to travel in plus they’re big on safety features as well.

Jaguar= woke nonsense . Volvo = the beauty of life; feelings, family, humanity. Phenomenal, simply phenomenal!

Volvo is primarily owned by a Chinese MNC
No wonder why it delivers the best quality

I literally love my new Volvo. I dreamed of it for years and finally have it. It's so low-key classy and safe.

Interesting to me that such a great ad that is receiving so much attention is so hard to find on the internet.
That Jaguar ad made absolutely no sense and was a horrible setup. Volvo ad made sense and had a story people can relate to
I looked up details for the Volvo EX 90 ad and found this: Composer: "Theo Elwell, Strings and Tins" Also, "Ben Rector, Extraordinary Magic."
Volvo ❤❤❤
This is an "old" ad that they had on their channel for few months now :)

I have no kids but I’ve never felt so invested in car company.
I’m buying Volvo now
In resume. They sell you what they really are about. They are Volvo, safety first. The End.

Beautiful commercial from Volvo. Parents, white. I mean we are the real minority on this planet. Hope.
