Chinese brands are incredibly good these days. I've been to the Paris motor show a few weeks ago and it was a real eye opener. You'd get into the 100k German EVs and they'd feel cheap compared to 40k Chinese EVs

Sure. Americans should be driving computers on wheels controlled by Chinese companies. A nation we might go to war with any second. What could go wrong?
How will the rich make more money if we do this? Do you want them to offer a high quality car at an attractive price in a competitive market! Are you crazy? We are capitalists when it suits the rich and communists when it harms the rich
I drove the L9 SUV during my visit to China. I was so impressed. The car drives super quiet, and the technology inside is uncomparable to that in U.S. cars. China is truly ahead of the pack in the electric car industry. I hope we'll be able to have these in America in the future!

I truly believe people will live a better life with Chinese products that are way much cheaper and also functioning as good as all the other western brands
I have been telling people that Chinese cars are incredibly futuristic. I have been to China several times, and the types of cars they are making now will blow your mind. It's simply amazing. I hope one day they allow Chinese cars into the US, and I promise you car companies will start selling at a fair price.

@rickzane6433 Enjoy being ripped off by big automobile companies. What the Chinese have done is eliminate the BS and cut out all the BS big companies charge, giving us cars at a fair price. If the US wants to compete, they can cut the BS too. Do you understand that Tesla Model 3s are sold for $25k in China? Do you understand that the BMW 3 series EV is being sold at $25k? Do you know the VW ID 4 sells for $25k in China? Because they have competition over there, and the US definitely needs the competition, or you can let the media sell you BS.
Just for a little bit of context here, MEGA is considered a flop in China, not because it's bad, but because it is not competitive enough as an electric MPV, goes to show how far ahead Chinese EV market is
60-80k USD is waaaaay too expensive for the hyper competitive Chinese market. The Xpeng X9 is probably the best value for money modern electric MPV on the market today.

@martynrollinson nothing in the US is that close unless the max range is like 200. I want 350-400 miles range that can charge that fast, then it can truly compete with ICE.
@@Fldllse Thats not quite true. And the big 3 (Pilot/Flying J, Love's, and TA) are all starting to make massive investments. I drive a Chinese SUV in Dubai (among other cars) and also spend a lot of time at my home in the U.S. Americans are totally oblivious to the quality and variety of Chinese EVs conquering the world today. Different league of technology, software, features and build quality. Styling is also improving very quickly and quite a few models are very attractive. Bear in mind there were approx 600 Chinese EV startups a few years ago, maybe 30-50 brands remain today and are duking it out in the world’s most competitive and largest vehicle market.
All the features & quality at that price are incredible. they’d def have to figure something out on the vehicle styling IMO to mass market in the U.S. this is one of the better looking ones I’ve seen.
The remaining 35-40 chinese EV companies have fought a lot of competition and serve a great product to their customers, hence the quality. As they continue to fight domestically in China in the future, they will definitely start outdoing all other EVs in the world by more than a generation. I never imagined they'd grow so fast but looking at this review has made me realise that China has become the king of EVs now.
I remember reading an article where a Ford executive rode in one of those cars, and when he was asked his opinion, he said if these vehicles come stateside, we are dead. We would not sell another vehicle. The bottom line is that these vehicles are way past our vehicles. It's like we are still in the 90s, and they are in 2035.
Reminds me when Cadillac engineers disassembled a 1990 Lexus LS 400 for engineering analysis, they concluded that the vehicle simply could not be built using existing General Motors production methods.
@@carlossa243 Except the difference is that at least Toyota was an existing major global automaker when they unleashed the LS400 onto the global market. Now you've got Ford CEO Jim Farley flabbergasted at how good the SU7 is when it is made by XIAOMI, a phone and home appliance manufacturer who only decided to enter the car business in 2021, and by 2024 they've not only designed but also put into mass production an EV sedan which is an actual Tesla Model 3 killer, on their FIRST TRY. And not a low production model either, since Xiaomi has already cranked out over 100,000 units of the SU7 in like 7 months on the market.
BMW and VW can't sell an ICE car in china to save their lives. I have an Xpeng G6 and I saw the iX1 on show and laughed as I walked away. The slow response from the tiny screen, the overwhelming interior colors and the unappealing shape as most of all the inflated price... Really laughable.
I just come back from Guangzhou Auto show (Top3 auto show in China). My take is, now iPhone moment or even iPhone4s moment has arrived. Keep your tariff wall for Nokia high up.
Foreigner living in China here. What's funny is that chinese people joke that the Mega looks so much like their high speed trains, that there are wrap kits to add the numbers and colour scheme of the high speed train to it. Also, this level of comfort and stuff, honestly it's super normal here when buying an MPV (these kinds of soccer mom vans) and at the price point, the mega might not even be the best option from all of them. For example the X9 from Xpeng, Zeekr has their own offering as well, which doesn't even include the multitude of fuel ones which are finding it more and more difficult to justify their high prices here.
what's more funny is that Chinese people did not make fun of analogizing it with high speed train which was the brand's own marketing slogon. what the netizens did joking was saying Mega resembled so much of chinese coffins especially from the tailgate side view. Some people even added spooky filters on photosshots of parking slots where batches of Mega parked, that's very funny and irritate the ceo of the Mega a lot. You know Chinese are super superstitious😂😂😂.
Another cool feature which blew me away from my last visit to China, was you could point at something, and command the voice assistant. For example you could point at the windows and say "open that" or point at the screen and say "put it away" in Chinese. Very intuitive
You don't even need to point in the Li cars. Just say, "Open my window". By recognizing where you are in the car, it will open your window. Again... this is tech Li Auto used in the Li ONE back in 2019!
@@kungfuimaging_adamcraseyou are right. However the “point and command” feature is especially useful when you were trying to help others. For example, you can point at the left window while you were sitting in the left seat, and ask the car to “open that for my friend” etc. Or like if you are the driver, you can point finger at the right seat in the second row and say “turn on heating for my wife”.

My guests were guessing that the car is a some Range Rover but me coming closer to the wheels and finding L7 on the center of the wheels I realized that it’s a Li Xiang 5 seater car. After I told them that and they walked around it taking some pictures and videos and after I told them about the price of the car that ranges between 50K-58K one of them told he wants one and now I’m ordering him his car since I do have an export office in China. Honestly the Li cars and the new Xiaomi SU7 are some incredible cars good value for money and I’m interested in living with both of these cars on a daily basis. Can’t wait for the review of the SU7 Max with all its advanced technology features, flawless design and helpful gadgets.

If you ever needed to take a nap or watch a movie, you just park and get to the back seat.
If this was available in America and I had the money for it, I would 100% buy one. If I had to choose, I lean towards the more traditional SUV version rather than the van simply for the look of it, but I’d still be happy with the van.

There’s a minus, remember my word, I have Li Auto L6, great vehicle, BUT... i just measured magnetic field in it. At the left foot (platform) it measures 50-60 MicroTeslas … butt level is 3-5-6 microteslas, head level is 0.8-1 microteslas, under the drivers door is 70-80 microteslas (your foot is never there, but)… so if I switch to “Electric” mode, this level getting lower - a lot lower … but anyway - it’s way higher numbers, than in Tesla or on Zeekr 001 (cool Chinese ev) of my friend.

The US market segments stuff typically into 3 levels, base, mid and high spec and even then you have to purchase certain options. I’m an expat in Malaysia, the Chinese cars here are pretty much loaded with the exception being battery size (along with range and charging speed). I recently saw the Zeekr X and Xpeng G6, shortly after they were launched and posted videos on them. The Zeekr X shares platform with the Volvo EX30 and it is much better equipped and cost less. It’s sad that Volvo didn’t have the EX30 the kind of features as the Zeekr X. The 009 was also on display and is really a luxurious vehicle.

I am impressed that a Chinese company came up with a mini van design that is revolutionary. Many bold designs originate from Europe, and recently Korea, and of course, the Cybertruck. I applaud Li Xiang for its boldness and confidence, and is the first example where I think a Chinese EV is not just designing within the box, but creating its own design language.
The voice assistant in this car is actually amazing. If you ask it to open the window(or other tasks), it can figure out where you’re sitting and only open the window next to you. Plus, you can give multiple commands at once, like “close the window, turn down the temperature, and play [song name],” and it will understand everything and complete the tasks one by one perfectly.
I can imagine this car as the mom in an EV family with the cyber truck as the dad. It's like in some movies or shows they make the dad character very broad and brutalist, and the mom is usually softer and sleak.
Cybersuck isn't even that macho looking. If you really want a macho looking electric truck/SUV, look up the similarly priced Dongfeng M-Hero 917 Dragon Armor Edition...
Worth noting, the heater in the back wasn't designed for baby formula lol. In China they only drink boiled water, not cold. Sounds insane to a westerner but for them it's normal!
Have an L9 Bach home in Moscow, honestly after switching from bmw x7 there’s almost no difference in built quality and safety, Americans are so oblivious to the products quality made by local Chinese brands that it’s hilarious, but they are happy to buy electronics and other goods of big brands made at the same Chinese factory’s.

You had better believe that he knows _exactly_ what he's doing when he reviews this vehicle on this channel.
@@alistairwillock7266 he has been on this side of reviewing unobtainable tech for US/EU/outside china videos for some time. Let's put it this way... these cars will NEVER sell in U.S. or EU. But cudos to him about making the video about it. What's this part about second car/SUV being hybrid, he didn't explain how exactly is that powertrain working which is essentially most importnat part of the car for most people.
In China, minivans/vans that look like this are called 面包车, which directly translates to "loaf of bread car“ and nothing epitomizes that more than this.
Perfect description. May I please ask how the word is pronounced?
@@DrRussell mien bow (like take a bow) chuh (in the official Chinese pinyin romanisation it's "mian bao che")
@ thank you kindly Sir, will definitely use this!
Ngl, driving a loaf of bread sounds awesome
@@TheHuskyK9 lol not really, during the poor development period in most Asian countries, all you saw were these types of white square minivans. It's quite a boring sight for Asians.
It's always funny when a younger adult male has his first experience with a minivan. The ride, the space, the functionality... all so amazing the first time you experience it. Marques, it's ok to love it, just don't sell your 911 to make room for it in the garage.
Old man here. The Mini van is 10000x superior to the SUV. The only reason to SUV is off roading which 98.125% of SUV owners don't do.
@@rsplines12 Ride height and snow. Someone not from the North would never know or bother. Of course I saw way more lifted pickups in the South, so I guess a lot of somebodies preparing for either Snowpiercer or Waterworld.
@@Varadiio There's tradeoffs, I'd rather drive a FWD Pacifica with chains/snow tires than, say a RAV4 if I were going up a mountain to ski. The extra weight of a minivan gives it a lot more traction, not to mention the massive amount of extra gear/people/pets you can haul.
@@Ahwleung. I don't know the mountains. Midwest you can't use chains, and they don't matter much anyway, because once you get snow to the bottom of your chassis, you're like an upside-down turtle. The only solution at that point is either ride height or distributing the weight more like with the tracked wheel conversions.
The classic mentality up here is to have a summer car and a truck because a little blizzard isn't gonna cancel the shift at quickie-mart. It's more about the right tool for the right job, but these SUVs and crossovers took off. They're lifted just enough, have power that's just enough, and offroad ability just enough. Most of them are hideous compromises, but like you, people want something that just works all the time. If it's roomier than the truck, can get through snow better than the sedan, it's good enough for most daily tasks year-round. Hopefully they don't notice what it says on the title: "STATION WAGON"
My 94 Toyota estima minivan that recently died had amazing ground clearance, around 25cm, I think the future is adjustable suspension that lifts the car so you can go off road in your electric minivan when needed

Minivan to SUV transition was awesome!
its more like a van as i thought.
taking a pass from most of the comments in this section to say that a steering wheel-mounted digital dash feels very unique, and I like that design a lot.
EDIT: The fact that all of these features are included standard at like an 80 grand price point is unreal. I understand why Elon's scared of Chinese EV manufacturers.
The base Lixiang L6 SUV is reselling for $40k in Russia brand new with 20miles on the dash. Heard it's about $30k from the factory in China.
35K USD for basic model in China
Yes, this would be an absolute game changer for our family of 5. It has insane features, insane space, and is the first vehicle to bring the minivan styling into a futuristic, cool place. 10/10
The hyundai staria is a close option in the non electric options
First you’ve ever seen. Definitely not the first in China 😂. Chinese EV market is wild and MPVs are a popular category that is almost non existent isn’t the US and Europe
That L9 is close to my dream car. Ever since the Top Gear episode where they made a hybrid system that had gas engine just for charging the battery, I was obsessed with that concept and always wondered why no one makes that kind of a car. That combined with simple, useful luxury this vehicle offers makes it just insane for me ;P
GM already made that car. It's called the Volt. It is discontinued....stupidly.
Bmw i3 before already did that
LI AUTO has L6,7,8,9 line up all in that mode,. But if you like pick up trucks, BYD shark is using the same technology and it's available in Mexico

Previa+Cybertruck!
As a Chinese consumer living in Shanghai, I feel so spoiled by so many new and interesting EVs popping up every month. It's just great to see every car company here rushing to launch new cars with more indegineous and home grown tech.
Li MEGA was launched almost a year ago and it almost felt obsolete. It kind of feels surreal to see it reviewed by you MKBHD!
Btw, if you hav the chance, please do review the AITO M9. It is the most competitive domestive electric luxury SUV in China. It obliterated X5, range rover, Caynne etc since launch.

The hidden Dominic Toretto in the back @6:30 lol
The voice assistant in this car is actually amazing. If you ask it to open the window(or other tasks), it can figure out where you’re sitting and only open the window next to you. Plus, you can give multiple commands at once, like “close the window, turn down the temperature, and play [song name],” and it will understand everything and complete the tasks one by one perfectly.
The only downside is that you have to know Chinese to use it. :(
I can imagine this car as the mom in an EV family with the cyber truck as the dad. It's like in some movies or shows they make the dad character very broad and brutalist, and the mom is usually softer and sleak.
That’s hella funny and sounds accurate
Cybersuck isn't even that macho looking. If you really want a macho looking electric truck/SUV, look up the similarly priced Dongfeng M-Hero 917 Dragon Armor Edition...
Fitting because sitcom dads are always idiots buying stupid, impractical things that are dangerous in order to compensate for their own insecurities.
Perhaps Americans are not indifferent, just because they can't access China's new energy vehicles.
If it’s good enough for you, then it’s good enough for me as well.
Not good enough for Trump though. You will never get this car. Be happy with your over priced American vehicles!😂
