Hi girl, I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been having a hard time. I just graduated DesignLab (off of your recommendation) and made a concerted effort to make myself an AI optimized UX designer. It’s my dream to be working on an AI team. You continue to be an inspiration to me, and thank you so much for putting yourself out there, through the good times and bad
aww thank you! Hope Designlab is going well. Love to hear about how you feel about AI and UX !
Love the honesty and the mini microphone! I could empathize with you on a deep level in just 5 minutes.
Thank you for sharing your honest feelings about what you’re experiencing. I’ve had a similar experience as well. I don’t think there’s enough conversations being had about how stressful of a time the tech industry is right now. We kinda just have to pretend everything is perfectly fine. I hope you get through this stressful period right now though ❤️ Also excited to see your new lifestyle content!
So true, it's a wild time and having to adapt so quickly can be tiring. Feels reassuring to know I'm not the only one experiencing this. Thank you for your support
As a UX researcher, I can relate to the idea of “not having mental capacity for anything else other than my job”. I went through a similar experience for the first 6-9 months when I joined my current company. I was also working on a project with high visibility from senior leadership and on the forefront of tech. Good to hear that I’m not alone!
Also, IMO your channel is kind of already a lifestyle / vlog-like channel. I’m all for the change especially it means we get more foodie posts :)
i relate to this so deeply. I'm so sorry you've had to go through this. i similarly worked by butt off to get into big tech, burned myself out trying to prove my worth, and ultimately got laid off anyway 🙃 hang in there!! we're rooting for you!
I’m sorry to hear about what you’re going through. I know you’ll pull through and know that we’re routing for you. 🙏🏼
Love this channel for the raw and brutally honest content. Will be here even as the channel shifts direction :)
I love how real you are in your content.
I know jobs can be stressful sometimes just find time to do what gives you a sense of relief.
As always, THANK YOU for your unabashed, vulnerable, and honest thoughts. This is truly why I believe so many people love your videos. So regardless of what you pursue posting, we'll all probably love it. Sending you some well deserved rest, peace, and inspiration for whatever is bringing you joy.
Hi Mimi, I'm sorry to hear about your struggles :( We all hope you're able to destress and feel better in the near future! I hope you're able to post more YT content that YOU wanna actually post!
Thank you! So lucky to have your support and can't wait to share more with you!
The stress of ux can be intense! As a senior uxer on a high stress team, this is relatable. It gets easier and normals out as you get further into your career. It’s crazy what your brain adapts to. Looking forward to see more life style content!
This is soooo relatable. Was a UX Designer in big tech until I finally got swept up by the most recent layoff end of April. Was kind of a relief not constantly waiting to be laid off anymore, but it's shitty wondering what's going to come in the next few months and years (we've gotta love AI lol). Been debating also posting my own unique lifestyle youtube, so you're not alone! Would love to see what you come out with in the future. Focus on what brings you joy and I hope you're feeling better ❤
Wow I resonate with this on multiple levels. I'm not working as a UX designer yet, but there are definitely days where I don't feel like doing anything productive due to mental exhaustion. Also, as a fellow UX youtuber, I also am on board with not being pigeonholed to doing UX content. In fact, I did a vid recently completely unrelated to UX. So I fully support you branching out!
You're a super talented content/video creator. Whatever you make videos about, I'm sure they will be great!
Hi Shawn! So kind, thank you!!
omg i love that ur shifting to a more ux design/lifestyle vibe. there’s so many “what is ux design” jr designer videos and at sometime ur not a jr anymore. and it would be cool to see videos that can reflect just the regular life of someone who happens to be a ux designer. like ux design is a job and passion but it’s not our whole life??
kourtney kardashian
nice video as always! you should do vlogs!!
It's been an ordinary year for me at work, so I switched my focus to health and weight loss. Keeps me more focusd to see the improvements. Work is just ..... meh.. lol
We miss you girly
It would be cool if you tested many different video formats and/or topics. It would be fun to do such testing and see which video topic/ direction works the best with the audience and with you as a creator.
Love the idea of experimenting! Thanks for watching
🤠 I like it 🚀
My channel pales in comparison to yours, but I decided a long time ago to only do things on my schedule and only if I want to. So I do UX videos and the career videos. But I also just share videos of music and whatever. I'm thinking about doing some videos on finance shortly because that kind of information excites me, and I don't care if there are 100 other places you can get the same information. You do you. You don't owe anyone anything.
Hi fellow youtuber! I love that you're creating positive boundaries to protect your passions! Thank you for your kind words.
Proceeds to not post for a month. lol
things be stressful lol
🤗Thank you for this honest video Mimi. For almost a year I’ve been back and forth persuading myself that I do want to pursue UX since I really don’t know what I want to do in life and just hit 30. I need to find a career that offers financial stability but where I can be creative and actually like not love but at least like .
I’m on course 5 of Coursera but stopped since there is no mentorship or anyone to give knowledgeable advice since we're all still learning. I don't want to spend all this money on a boot camp and not go through with this. I love the creativity, interviewing users to see what works and doesn’t work.. but I read a Reddit for UX designers and someone said it’s overwhelmingly having to constantly explain to stake holders why their design will work best for the users. I’m not sure what I’m going to do I was thing about Front end Dev or Web and Brand design freelance but idk. I hope you find what makes you happy and feel fulfilled from one Mimi to another. 🫶🏾🌺
You can do it, keep learning💪
Oh my god, are you ME? Haha. It felt like I was reading something I wrote (especially the first para cos I'm 30 and lost too) I'm currently a UX researcher at a FAANG company (yes sounds like a "dream job" doesn't it? :| Except it's not) and I am soo scared to quit even though deep down I kinda know UX is not my path and does not align with me as a person or my interests :(
