    I've been jobless for over 5 months and fighting depression and imposter syndrome has been the toughest battle. I am a early career UXR and trying to find the perfect opportunity is hard. I take everything personal because I'm extremely hard on myself.

    • @mimimichi
      @mimimichi  Рік тому +32

      I'm pretty hard on myself too, but it's in these moments that I find myself growing the most. It's not a fun cycle to be in and I had to constantly remind myself that my job is not my worth, not my identity, and it will figure itself out eventually and I'm not going to compromise myself in the process. Take breaks and reward yourself for the hard work you've put in so far, you deserve it.

      Hey, you’re not alone! I usually don’t comment on videos but I relate to you. I graduated as a 3D artist this year but the market is extremely hard to jump into right now cause they all ask for 5+ years of experience. Focus on yourself first. You’re doing good! Depression is deafening but you need to be in the right headspace before jumping into anything. Best of luck to you and good things will come! It will come eventually!! :D

      It’s all BS… it is impossible getting a ux job in the sense that it’s basically out of your control. What angers me is that the industry always has the narrative of “it’s you and you need to be better.. a better portfolio, a better resume, more experience, better at interviews blah blah”. From what I’ve seen, it’s got virtually nothing to do with your ability. I’ve been to quite a few networking events for ux and almost everyone who got their first job basically “got lucky”. I’ve seen some incredible people who can’t get a job and some useless people who landed one immediately. It’s the job market that’s broken.. not you.

    Man, this hit me in the chest. Ugh I felt all these feelings for over 6 months when I was looking for my 1st UX job. No one talks about how hard it is. I'm documenting my journey and I love how honest you are being about this!

    This is exactly how it is for me right now as I try to look for a UX design role. A roller-coaster, hate-love, highs and lows, peaks and valleys, hopeful yet pessimistic type of thing. As cliché as it sounds, we have no other choice but to keep on keeping on.
    So, keep on keeping on! We all got this!

    Don’t let the hunt consume you. Schedule a part of your day for it. But utilise the rest for things you’ve always wanted to do. And use your network to get recommendations. It’s harder when you switch career tracks so there’s a silver lining in everything. I am an ex creative director (copy and UX) and am getting into IT consulting.

    Thank you for sharing this, I have had so many rejection emails for the past 6 months. I have felt every emotion there can be. Seeing someone else go through the exact same thing re-assures me that I'm a good designer, I just haven't found the right fit.
    THANK YOU

    I'm in the same process as you are! I'm searching for my next role and currently interviewing with two great companies. I am so so grateful but also stressed as hell and it's so hard waiting and trying not to take rejections personally, especially after so much hard work and energy and effort. I'm also so early in my design career, so imposter syndrome is definitely creeping its way in, but I'm trying not to let it win. Sending you all the best wishes, I hope things work out for you! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us :)

    Hi Mimi, thanks for sharing this transparent and raw moment of the job-seeking journey😂. As a person who aspires to be in the UX position soon, your video made me a bit nervous with the realistic views but, definitely motivated me to work hard at my situations, and think about how to cope with my mentality during this uncertain journey. Wish you a good luck 🙌

    This helped me so much. Thank you for being so transparent. Been in UX for a few years now and been struggling with imposter syndrome. Showing that you are questioning whether you are good enough and then reminding yourself that you're good enough, it reminds me that this is normal. I am about to embark on a similar journey and I've been so afraid to start because of imposter syndrome and questioning the market with all the layoffs. Thank you for showing the good and the bad in the process, it gives me some encouragement and to know that I am not alone.

    Oh man, this is too real! I'm current almost finished with my associates in User Experience Design, and hoping to transfer to a University to continue for my Bachelor's. The job market is super discouraging, and I'm wondering if all this blood, sweat, and tears are worth it. Fingers crossed the economy rebounds by the time I graduate!

    I had my first design challenge ever and it was for a government job I did not pass through to the next stage, had another opportunity for a small contract but that one you needed to be a current student but they had overlooked that when they first contacted me and said they would have been happy to go further in the process but the funding was from a youth student program /: other that I have had a lot of ghosting and automated rejection emails
