Hey guys. I just made the My Retro Life Discord Server public after an overhaul from some friends of the show discord.gg/haPfNGWm5K It used to be Patreon Patron only but now we are assigning special Patreon roles for patrons. Please head on over there and hang with us! Hope to see you there.
A buddy of mine has been singing it’s praises, it looks like a really cool little handheld. That mapping for the libraries is bizarre. Glad to see you can change the aspect ratio, I hear it works changing to TATE mode as well. Good vid!
I hope they stay with these names. "RG" stands for "Retro Game", the "35" stands for 3.5", the 1, I guess, stands for a newer console-generation than the 0 of, say, the RG350M etc., and the character at end: M for Metal, P for Plastic, V for Vertical. Now you automatically know what the RG350P or the RG280V is, you know that the RG351P is the same console-generation but in plastic (it was out before the M version reviewed here) and what the RG351V will be if/when it comes out. I'd suggest, btw., to give 351ELEC a try. It's the perfect firmware for the RG351M. There are good guides linked to on their Github-Page. Once you're on that firmware, you can use the RG351M's WiFi function to update to future versions. They've solved many a problem with the original firmware already and are constantly working on new functionality and bugfixes.
Totally agree, remember the *new* Nintendo 3ds? It’s unimaginable to me to buy this device and not know its name in my sleep. Researching which one to get is so much fun!
I love collecting little emulation portable systems to play my favourite retro games without there being a console, pretty much surrounded by emulation. This seems neat.
I'm waiting on my delivery. Preparing my rom library for porting across exactly what I want with retroarch 351 elec os and some custom themes and music.
I’ll have to think about this one somewhere down the line. I have an old GP2X Wiz handheld for my emulation on the go but I don’t think it runs much beyond 16 bit generation. The build quality sounds worlds better as do the controls. However, I too question the legality of including games. Who knows? Perhaps they found a loophole.
The inaccurate art reminds me of that time some emulation device used a poster for a movie called “Last Resort” as the art for the NEO geo game also called “Last Resort”
I remember when I was a kid growing up in the late 80s early 90s my dad would take me to the video store to rent games and the only thing that I would go off by would be the pictures on the rental boxes. I would only be allowed to rent one game per week and sometimes the art on the boxes would be so deceiving. What would look like a great game by the picture on the cover sometimes would end up being a waste of time
I have a Retroid Pocket 2, which is similar to the Ambernic, only with an Android based UI. Overall, it's pretty decent and can play many games up to the Playstation very well. The only gripe I have with it is that the input latency is pretty bad with GBA games. Luckily, fiddling with Retroarch settings helps a little bit. These little retro handhelds have sure come a long way in a short amount of time that's for sure.
About a week ago I purchased a second hand original Xbox paid about 15 dollares for it, to my surprise someone had taken the time to install a bunch of emulators.
Great review. I followed the way you changed the scale to 4:3 ration on screen but it does not stay/save it that way when I go back to playing game. How did you get it to save to that setting? Thanks.

Nice to see this kind of content on this channel, keep it going!
Glad you enjoy it! Every once in a while I like to review a retro product like this
Just got mine after waiting for a month! Totally worth it!!!!!

Great choice of soundtrack!! Hits me in all the best feels...
I think the coolest thing about this portable is the variety of stuff to play on it
Totally! MSX, Dreamcast, PS1, Arcade, great stuff
Great video, Tyler! That looks like a great handheld and that fact that it uses Retroarch is a huge plus.

(I'm on the RG351P, btw., since I got it in early January. And I'm loving the 351ELEC firmware on it.)

I much prefer ArkOS on the RG351 but 351Elec is pretty good too.
Good, honest review for a product you received is really appreciated. This thing looks really enticing!
Hey! Glad you liked it
I love mine. I put 351elec on it and PSP plays much better than on the original firmware

I’m really enjoying it! Thanks for watching
I'll stick with the RG350M. The screen has a 3:4 ratio (RG351M is 2:3), and the resolution is better.
I see that you are a man of culture.

Congrats Tyler and family may u get more sponsorships
Thanks man! Always cool when a company sends us something like this
@@MyRetroLife yes it is 🙏🏽👍🏽👊🏽
I own one and if any of you are thinking of buying it … DO! It is a very good device

You can update the game box images to correct and find missing ones in the scraping in options.

I use MyBoy on RP2 for GBA games and it works great.
@@Raphtor13 I'll have to try that one out. Thanks for the recommendation.
Nice vid dude but I'll stick to my Game Boy Color and GBA
Thanks. Yeah man, a GBA with new backlit screen looks sick!
About a week ago I purchased a second hand original Xbox paid about 15 dollares for it, to my surprise someone had taken the time to install a bunch of emulators.
Yay!
Hope you liked the video Jay
@@MyRetroLife I did! It’s cool it had bonk one it! Also I love GG shinobi!
My Retro Life...Where did you order your unit from?
Anbernic actually sent it to me for review. Link to buy is in the video description :-)
Question? Is the Beavis and Butthead game on the system? I will pick one up if so, been wanting to have that game portable for a while now.
Great review. I followed the way you changed the scale to 4:3 ration on screen but it does not stay/save it that way when I go back to playing game. How did you get it to save to that setting? Thanks.
I was unable to find a way to save the setting... same problem!
How do you adjust the brightness?
Looks small
Why is so dark?
It is, isn't it? Will make sure to brighten up the next one. Thanks for pointing that out
You look beautiful.
shamefully hides the shit 4:3 aspect ratio lol
