Very nice review. My one gripe with the RG351 series is that aside from the RG351V they reduced the screen size from the 4:3. The 4:3 looks so good to me and the screen is clear and bright. Not sure why the screen size was downgraded with the newer versions. Excellent review none the less. Keep it up.
I wouldn't call it a straight downgrade besides maybe the color. Its perfect for Gameboy advance and while it is only one system out of many that was the most important to me.
The rg351m gets too hot 🔥 stick with the plastic rg351p it's just as good I wouldn't consider the metal one premium unless your using it in winter as a hand warmer
i want the 351m/p form factor with the 351v's screen. i would go with a 350m/p, but the lack of better os options like arkos kills it for me. i don't think i'll be comfy with the vertical ergonomics of the v, but the screen is so good and ideal for almost everything except gba. the struggle
Again a very good video from you 👍 I finally got my RG351V and made a video about it. I am enthusiastic and I especially like how good the device is in the hand. There is a real retro feeling especially as a gameboy classic fan ☺️😍
Thanks for the review. Which games are you sacrificing playing by just having one joystick? Is it just PC? I would love to see a list of pc games available on these systems so I know which games exactly I’m going or not going to be able to play. Thanks!
Hey, just wanted to mention a couple of things. Have you tried RGA scaling for the home consoles on the 351M? I use this with mine and while it's softer than the perfect image you'd get from a 4:3 higher-res screen, it looks better than the bilinear filtering example you show in the video. Also, I think it's worth saying - in my experience, the comparison between these two machines pivots very heavily on how important GBA is to you. For me, it was really important; I was primarily buying my 351M to replace my aging GBA-AGS-101, so I really wanted a borderless, pin-sharp GBA picture, which the 351M can produce, but the 351v can't (for the same reasons as the 350M, which I originally bought and ended up exchanging for the 351M).
You're right about the 351M being perfect for playing GBA games because of the 3:2 screen but the colors on the IPS screen they used in this device are much cooler/washed out when compared to the 4:3 IPS screen they used in the 351V.
My rg351v arrives tomorrow so excited. Last time I really played a lot of Emulators was running Ubuntu on my PS3 via "otherOS" before it was removed. Can't wait, look at that Gameboy form factor!
The RG351V looks great but that missing right analogue stick is a pretty big bummer. Hopefully ANBERNIC makes a metal version of the RG351V and it includes a right analogue stick.
All Anbernic has to do is offer the same specs as the V version in a M version form factor(which should include buttons rather than dials for volume, etc). The dual TF slots are genius IMHO and the screen is crystal clear.
does the gameboy looking one only have a glass bezel on three sides? it looks so asymetrical.... now later in the video it doesn't look like it has plastic over the left side of the screen, was there a tab there you removed?
My 351P device will not save games in favorites once the device is turned off. Is this normal? Is there a device that keeps game s saved once turned off?
How were you able to get moonlight working on the device? I've installed Anberports and downloaded the Moonlight package, but I don't know how to connect it to my computer. I tried to put Moonlight on my computer too, but it's not obvious how to set it up. Is there a guide somewhere?
@ARZEON .... 11:25 ... i have seen that with many reviewers that they criticize difficulties with pressing L1 and R1, but my first impulse was to only use the fingertips for L2 and R2 and these would rest there and L1 and R1 i could press with the middle section of my finger ... i think you would say intermediate phalanx in anatomy ;). Why would i change my grip for that? Way to slow ;).
Maybe a stupit question but i'm New in this and want to buy the best Is it possible to Connect the Rg351v to a old gameboy color so my Child can exchange Pokémons?
Has anyone had the rg351p and the metal version quit playing games soon as the game starts it freezes then you have to use the power button or restart to get out of it I have the rg-3051v and it does great no problems yet but the other one we've had two of them is this a known problem or what thank you
Hey great breakdown. I've been trying to decide between the P and V. I'll pretty much just be playing Gameboy advance and N64. I'm kind of leaning towards the V. With the screen and built in wifi.
Honestly I've been saying for a while now, if you're interested in GBA, definitely get the 351P/M, because the screen aspect ratio makes an enormous difference. I actually exchanged a 350M for the 351M due to this reason, to get proper aspect, fullscreen, pixel-perfect GBA games. Naturally the res/ratio isn't perfect for the home consoles, but this video doesn't mention RGA scaling, which you can turn on, which I'd argue makes them look fine in-the-hand on the small screen (though *technically* worse than the 4:3 screen handhelds like the 350/351v). This is mainly because while I have all the emulators set up, I find that I gravitate to the GBA more than any other machine, so it's really important to me that looks perfect - and it doesn't on 4:3 screens due to the borders. The 351M/P are just the best for GBA, specifically, if you want full-screen, pin-sharp images. There's one other thing here too; due to how the emulator for NGPC works, it's a weird quirk - it looks much better on the 351M/P than the bigger, 640x480 screen of the RG350M. I haven't seen this on the 351v yet, but it's because the options of scale factors on the 350M in the emulator were very limited. As a result, the 351M is also presently one of the best machines on which to play NGPC games; this might not matter to some people but I'm a huge fan of this machine so it really affected my decision.
@@nightskyblue2544 well dang I appreciate all that. I'll be going 351M then. I'll be using it for GBA like 80% of the time I'm sure and that aspect ratio is gonna bug me if it doesn't look right.
@@axsaull3350 I'm hesitating between the RG351V and the 199 Valhalla, I was about to buy the 351V cause the 199V is not available yet but I'll be playing exclusively GBA games so what's your opinion if you bought the M version, are you happy ?
@@ARZEON can both device share memory card? I mean like if i decided to buy both of them, first i play on vita and maybe gonna go somewhere and i just move my memory card to anbernic, is it possible? With all saves and stuff

Is it? Pre-PS2 era, very few games used a dual analog stick setup, and those that support one--like Vagrant Story on PS1--don't *require* it, since the original PS1 controller had no analog sticks at all. The entire library (apart from games that were designed for special peripherals) was designed to be playable with digital buttons only. The pre-PS2 era is precisely the spectrum of games these devices are capable of running well.
Hey Arzeon and viewers. 👋. QQ regarding RG351 (351V to be specific)… Has anyone else experienced issues where GB game saves revert back to earlier save games when saving in game and not with save states? For example, I’ve been playing Pokémon Red, and got Charmander to evolve into Charmeleon at around level 15. Saved in game, and powered off. Now on fresh boot, and loading my save game, it’s an earlier one with only Charmander at level 9. I lost 6 levels of progress. I can’t find any backups or way to get my good save back. Is this why save states are in the RG351 handhelds? Like, is this a known problem and the save states are to avoid it? Or am I just the unlucky person who got a bug/glitch?
Purchased RG351M from ebay for 65 $ now i'm just waiting to get it delivered i own a steam deck and i know that people emulate games on that hand held but i just don't know where to get the roms so i just got this

Great job! I'm working on a similar video, it'll be interesting to see how what I find important compares to what you covered :)

If you have money to buy a handheld for that, then you can afford an actual 3ds, hack it and get both libraries and more.
