Belarus central bank doesn't comply with Euro rules, they are independent so if they would join the global money system they couldn't print money from their own bank. So it's a choise between monetary independence and free trade, they made the independence choise.

The winter is much colder in Belarus compared to Ireland (however someone from Siberia considers the winters in Belarus to be mild) but the summer is, generally, warmer. In Ireland it rarely gets over 22 degrees, and there s always a cold breeze.

I'm Irish and living in Arizona. My number one hate here is the weather too. It's the opposite though, the summers here are brutal. 35 - 40C every day for months, it's horrible. The winters are beautiful though.
Mid April in Belarus is still cold, same for October. You are incredibly generous about their weather comment, especially if one enjoys outdoors sports like running/biking, in Belarus can be unpleasant for around 6 months of the year.

If you just try to pay by card in a store, it doesn't matter what the currency is there, the bank applies exchange rates automatically. Maybe that place was kinda specific? Outdated software/hardware? Or the locals just didn't know that? Anyway, you definitely can use your cards in euros (as well as US dollars, Russian rubles, etc.) everywhere in Belarus without any restrictions.

You get a better rate in the local currency with credit cards. The same applies across Europe when you're using sterling credit cards , always pay in local currency. The social system isn't geared towards business due to its Soviet legacy and current leadership. The weather is continental . We're lucky in Ireland and Britain to have the North Atlantic drift , milder winters and cooler summers.

No matter whether it's dark or blond, it tastes very good and has absolutely nothing To envy To western countries' beer. And I always felt the necessity of ordering a second one. a) Bulbash was good in 2007-2008... They got their production tools spiled and no extra funding from goverment. People from N.Ireland really liked it when I was there for a dozen of times. Just found the channel and have been binge watching for hours. A likely answer to the currency and bureaucracy issues is simply: national sovereignty. To this I'd add what you pointed out in another video about visas: one has to enter and depart via Minsk airport to travel there visa-free. Leaving overland to Russia or Latvia after having entered the country visa-free via air will get one into big trouble. From the standpoint of a tourist, that's certainly maddening. It makes no sense. But try looking at it in a way that does make sense. Viewed from a sovereign Belarus perspective, it may make perfect sense that Belarus would not allow people who enter the country visa-free by air to do things (such as enter and exit the country via 3rd countries) which ordinarily require a visa. From that perspective, Belarus isn't inconveniencing anyone. On the contrary, they're giving the legitimate visitor to the country a break, while punishing those who would take advantage of visa-free airport entry to get up to God knows what in and out of Russia, Latvia, and Ukraine. One isn't allowed to use Euros in Belarus because it's a foreign currency. Love the channel!

Regarding point number 5 - consider Australia. 10-11 months of intense summer 30+ everyday and night, brown washed out monocolour lighting. Far more depressing than a short 6 month winter.
They might like to have payments made in their national currency - that's what it's for. Also, the red tape might be about control. In the former USSR, laissez faire didn't work so well.

I hate their officials un transparencies years ago I fedexed a letter along with $500 cash from USA to a relative in need in Minsk It was never delivered and After a month and half received a letter explaining the illegality of sending currency and have 10 days to claim it in person! Also in worked owned cooperatives and state owned enterprises workers have a right to form a syndicate. Well, you cannot pay in Euros because Euro is not the currency of Belarus. If you went to the US, or elsewhere outside the European Union, then I'm pretty sure you'd experience the same problem there.

There is a whole lot of bureaucracy in Lithuania too, I believe it is a legacy left by the Soviet Union. You wouldn't imagine the paperwork involved when we got married there this year. I believe one of the women from the registry office asked us 'Your priest is letting YOU get married here? But you're Irish!'. The documents, soo many documents... Not to mention the need for each one to be translated and verified by the Irish Government..... it was such a costly procedure!!

The red tape argument might actually be a benefit in some cases? There may be a fear of ending up looking something like Moldova for example(saw videos by Mr Bald and Bankrupt) or other horribly poor and decrepit areas of Russia and the former Soviet Union since the fall of the USSR. When money floods in from outsiders it doesn't often benefit the people of the country where it is pumped into. If Belarus is quite stable then there could be a fear of the grass not always being greener.
Cheese isn't common meal in Belarus. In most cases its a snack (закуска). Inside sandwich with cup of tea. Also its good with smoked meat. Traditionaly belorussians prefere cottage cheese.

Regarding point number 5 - consider Australia. 10-11 months of intense summer 30+ everyday and night, brown washed out monocolour lighting. Far more depressing than a short 6 month winter.
In Australia more territory its desert..2/3% square.. but in very dry and heat warm climate..in summer in Alice Springs more +40-45C...

that's not just a belarussian thing, that is a worldwide rule as far as I am aware, especially if it's not domestic. the only thing left to complain about is how good of a job they do at checking their incoming mail for illegal things. letter mail with a stamp is not allowed to be opened without probable cause.

About number three. It's better to have worker owned cooperatives than to sell your country and your people to foreigners. Also in worked owned cooperatives and state owned enterprises workers have a right to form a syndicate. I am from Serbia and here if you try to form a syndicate in a private or especially foreign private enterprise, you get fired, that's why syndicates are non-existent here, they do exist in some enterprises but only formally. And we are a former socialist country too, we were once part of Yugoslavia.

As we, neighboring Lithuanians, joke that we have black Friday every Friday since November till the April. Hello darkness my old friend... I haven't seen sun in two weeks now. All lamps, LEDs and everything that can emit light is On all the time at our home. We have huge electricity bills :D
Ireland is also north therefore the same darkness in winter. I live in south of UK and still can't cope with endless darkness. And regarding the weather - I prefer continental climate with actual 4 seasons, instead of the constantly wet, windy and cloudy oceanic climate in the UK and Ireland. You seemed to forget about not having proper sunshine and blue skies in the Ireland, like ever. Who wants to live in constant grey and rainy weather,??

Well, you cannot pay in Euros because Euro is not the currency of Belarus. If you went to the US, or elsewhere outside the European Union, then I'm pretty sure you'd experience the same problem there.

Moved to Thailand from Ireland and it was absolutely amazing not to feel depressed in Winter!
Spend enough time in Thailand ( i lived there 12 years ) and you may miss the change of Seasons ,and get annoyed with the extreme heat April,May and June ,but i would rather be back in Thailand.

There is a whole lot of bureaucracy in Lithuania too, I believe it is a legacy left by the Soviet Union. You wouldn't imagine the paperwork involved when we got married there this year. I believe one of the women from the registry office asked us 'Your priest is letting YOU get married here? But you're Irish!'. The documents, soo many documents... Not to mention the need for each one to be translated and verified by the Irish Government..... it was such a costly procedure!!

The red tape argument might actually be a benefit in some cases? There may be a fear of ending up looking something like Moldova for example(saw videos by Mr Bald and Bankrupt) or other horribly poor and decrepit areas of Russia and the former Soviet Union since the fall of the USSR. When money floods in from outsiders it doesn't often benefit the people of the country where it is pumped into. If Belarus is quite stable then there could be a fear of the grass not always being greener.

Cheese isn't common meal in Belarus. In most cases its a snack (закуска). Inside sandwich with cup of tea. Also its good with smoked meat.
Traditionaly belorussians prefere cottage cheese.
