@@TheArtMentor beyond that. A.I art is often very stiff. likely because its training data comes from the huge numbers of concept arts in basic poses. its always "girl facing camera" or "person in hero pose" if its not characters its swirly and highly detailed environment shot . sometimes you see interesting action poses if there is a story but they usually just attractive woman doing attractive things. not to mention its biggest users are coomers so its always either anime style or some variation of it. ironically the most "creative" A.I arts are memes and absurd concepts . its also WAAAY too "textured". the AI clearly doesnt understand how detailing works. so you often see impossible or jarring levels of detail on what should be stylized and therefore more simplified work. which clashes hard with the high contrast cartoon colors. it also always copies the "art station style" with the slightly dark lighting and low saturation coloring and cinematic soft lighting you would find in 3D renders.

@@TheArtMentor yeah. would be cool if you took a deep dive into Why ai looks the way it does. because unless its tuned to be photo realistic and the prompt is really good we can all tell its A.I but cant explain it without the vocabulary. the most obvious way to tell its useless greeble. or just the prompter not being able to remove something. Ai's limitation is based on data n programming and with policies, which it really needs more of when it comes to using human art without permission, it's even more limited. When I protested and said pretty much everything in this video she said "you just have to deal with the new reality". Later during lunch I asked other students about it and they were really missed about it too, just too scared to confront the teacher.

"Everyone is born an artist" Hearing that reminded me of the time I was with my homeschool group member who was the mom of the neighboring family. I taught her how to draw a sword. She was so excited just to draw a simple one edged sword, saying she had never done that before. I was 14 when I gave that tiny drawing lesson. I love the speed and simplicity of sword sketching and feel like it drills me on line placement. I actually played around with ai art myself, and don’t mistake, I’ve been drawing and doing character art for over a decade (nearly two depending on serious years). And I had hoped that maybe it would be good for acting as a middle stage for the wobbly hard to define image in my head and the many failed frustrated roughs on my way to a finished design. The problem though, is it never felt like it gave me even close to what I was going for. And, at first that made me feel like I was just bad at AI art (cause at the time I was giving it the benefit of the doubt on being a medium), meanwhile, it seemed like my programmer room mate and all my DND friends who used it all had results they wanted!… But did they? It became clear that they all just didn’t really even have a solid idea what they wanted, they were just throwing dice till eventually they got something they liked. Ai isn’t going to be able to form exactly the idea I already have in my brain, and if it did… maybe my idea wasn’t that interesting or new in the first place.

With almost all of them, I go into a little frenzy of "damn this is actually useful" only to realize after a couple hours that doing things manually will net me much quicker results. It sometimes make my rendering for a certain part in my illustration better, but I'm better off just practicing intentional decisions.
People have a point that AI will just keep getting "better", but guess who will be using those future tools to their fullest? Not people who are using an inefficient instant-gratification machine to saturate the market, but people who need to do everything manually to achieve work with evocation and narrative.

Im feeling so depressed about AI art... art was the one thing i felt i had value, meaning and purpose. It was something that made me feel i can achieve something by my own efforts wirhout much assistance from others. Unlike most other aspect of my patheic life :') and not to mention the sense of community and belonging which I lack in my regular life. Since being disabled creates so much isolation and rarely get opportunities to meet people. And now its not just the fact AI art EXISTS but the people using it are invading ARTISTS spaces, showing no respect and even engaging in threatening behaviours. If they just went over there with their own communities and left artists to enjoy their spaces... i can live with that.

if we limited art to images that look good to the monkey brain and anime coomers but dont mean anything byond that, then we betray the very concept of art, ignoring every instance of creativity there is. even mathematics and engineering have potential for artistary, look at nikola tesla. he had every attribute of an artist, looking byond surface level engineering books and carving a new path with many new inventions, including the revolutionary (pun intended) AC motor. as well as using showmanship to captivate audiences to them and having deep visions for grand creations. nobody expected or even wanted an AC motor. they assumed it to be impractical and expansive. we were going to be stuck with 1800s technology because DC motors and power were too limited for mass production. meanwhile tesla built the foundation of electricity like the artist that he was.

The supply is way too high for too little demand. When it started, it looked like it was going to be hard to even spot the AI art. Now you can spot that midjourney style from a glance (same exact super bright shading/coloring style everyone's using on the big art sites). That's 90% of the crap out there. The other 10% of people try to be more clever, but the fundamental problems remain: too much supply of it, too little demand, and too little control over what it actually creates.

thank you for this. i'm a teen and even though i haven't really lived for a while i've basically revolved my entire life on art. video games, music, drawing, stories. i like human expression and have been loving it since i was a little kid just watching movies. When the whole ai art thing came along i just passed it off as something that could never replace human expression. i messed around with ai chats and chatgpt stuff as well as some stupid stuff like the family guy ai thing i thought was so funny. but it wasn't until last night that i looked more into sora and was totally and utterly terrified. i have an EXTREME crippling fear of the future. and the idea that the only thing that is a constant thing i can turn to is going to be reduced to a small dopamine boost for a fahrenheit 451 type society was BAD. like i felt like everything i knew was just going to be ripped away and useless. all my video games, music and my hopes of making things was going to be useless.
and it's not that i think the ai "art" looks good. sora is realistic but it's terrible and stale. i'm just terrified of capitalism and it being a cheap and easy way to make ads and crap as well as it being turned into a dopamine boost. all my hopes and dreams of sharing human experience through stories would be GONE. life would be so, so bleak. even bleaker than now.
but i saw a comment under a reddit post a while back under something about ai art and being worried about it. it was like this

I feel like a lot of AI bros misunderstand what a 'style' even is, and focus on it way too much. They're so busy trying to make a style that's a sort of frankenstein choice of other artist's styles in a bid to make something unique, but this is very much a middle schooler only drawing anime approach to art. No offense to those people, it's just, well. Branch out to make your anime look better, kids!
In order to actually develop one's own style, truly, is to integrate your own eyes/hands into the art. I mean that in a very physical sense. How our bodies perceive light, shadow, form, color ect. are legitimately different from one another in both what we as individuals notice as we observe and SEE. Our sense of color literally changes as we age. The sexes see color differently. The blind, whether partial or total will perceive and recreate the world in their art in their own ways too. On a physiological level, you are unique and will make unique choices whether you wish to or not. That is a core component of what makes a style *personal* - a lack of control, a lack of choice born from personal understanding. Any real artist worth their salt at all will have studied from life to understand what things look like, and even without references handy will bring those perceptions into a piece made from memory as well. An artist who doesn't have a reference to draw a hand, will most likely inevitably make the hand in question look like their own even in a negligible way - because our hands are with us all the time. We see them significantly more than other hands.
Even how we PERCEIVE and appreciate other's styles to draw inspiration from is vastly different. Say, if I was inspired by Loish like many artists are - my appreciation isn't really in how Loish draws faces. What I do really appreciate about that artist's style is a sense of movement, form, and a general fluidity. I also like their sense of color sometimes but not for all pieces! Even if I were to try to implement those things about Loish's style exactly into mine, it would never *quite* be there. I don't see things the way they do. Also, most artists are fairly embarrassed if they are told they are very obviously directly copying another artist... :) So we try to avoid it anyway. I have seen people who mimic Loish very closely, and when I realized it wasn't the artist I like already, I was disappointed. I don't want a look-a-Loish, I just want Loish.
All of this to say... By being unwilling to allow themselves to be part of the artistic process, AI bros are quite literally locking themselves out of having their own style that includes their own unique perspectives. The world will never truly have a look through their eyes, through their mind, and that's a damn shame. Especially when, the access to honing the expression of that might cost $20 for paper and a #2 pencil. Or stealing supplies from their office, if they feel naughty and work in one. A professor of mine would create full paintings on his cellphone using open source painting apps, and that was nearly ten years ago when smartphones crashed if there were more than a handful of apps on them.

They "support" each other, but I am sure they've never put their money where their mouth is and bought AI "art" from someone else. I've said this before on other videos on the topic. I'm not an artist. At least not in any meaningful capacity. I dabble in writing and quite enjoy that, but in regard to visual art, I lack the mind's eye for it, and I lack the discipline and patience to develop the skills necessary for it. I STILL utterly despise AI art. Art should say something about the creator's experience. It should reflect their passions, emotions both good and bad, and it should reflect the massive amounts of effort they've spent refining their craft. AI art deserves no respect. It deserves no more consideration than a cursory "Huh... Look at that." if it even deserves that. The only people who consider AI art to be real art are those who don't understand art at any decent depth. All they're looking for is "pwetty pikchur" and honestly, they rarely manage even that.
To real artists here, I want to say. You have my support. You have the support of a lot more non-artists than you realize. There's a reason "Was it made by AI?" is a question that's being asked about pieces, movies, music, etc that are bland and uninspired. AI art won't replace you. Not as long as people like me exist. There's no singularity of perpetual computer self improvement going on here. Just a bunch of algorithms that are being tweaked by humans and the stolen data they use. I don't think AI Art will go away- but I do think it's place in the 'ecosystem' of commercial Art will be more limited than many people think. There are two reasons for this- first AI Art does have a 'look', despite it's ability to mimic different styles there is still something about AI Generated images that is recognisable- and the more AI Art you see the more this 'family resemblance' becomes clear. For example I can recognise images from the 'Midjourney' family as being different to images from the 'Dall.e' family- different algorithms leave different imprints on the images they create.
So the more AI generated images you see, the more you start to notice that they have their own particular look and feel, no matter what style or subject matter they are prompted to create.
This leads to reason number two- As AI Art becomes a recognisable thing it's use will not be easy to hide, which means that in most cases any Art that has been made using AI will be identified as such- and this will become a probem if you want that Art to enhance the perceived value of your product, because putting AI Art into your book or game ect will be like saying 'Hey Guys, I have such little respect for you as potential purchasers of my product that I have used the cheapest and most lazy Art available.' So using AI Art may actually damage the percived value of the thing you are trying to sell, which is exact opposite of what you wanted it to do.
What's funny about this is the AI developers have a vested interest in telling everyone just how quick and easy it is to make Art with their software, because they want people to sign up and pay to use it. But what does this message of 'quick and easy' do to the perecived value of the actual Art they are generating? How much value does anyone place on something that can be made with no effort in a few minutes? The answer is not very much.
So I think there will be place for AI Art in situations where the Art is not that important- say on a greetings card for example. But in a situation where the Art matters, for example, in a high quality board game, using AI Art will send entirely the wrong message, because it's use will be seen as insulting to those who buy such things and invest time in playing them. The thing that makes AI Art so attractive to non Artists- it's ease of use and speed, are the same things that will make using AI Art commercially toxic and self defeating in many situations.
So the future of AI Art is- in my view- to function as a kind of 'clip art' that has it's place but only in contexts where the Art is peripheral to the meaning and perceived value of the product it is used to promote.

1.) Thankfully I think AI art is evolving too fast to meet the same progress in society. To put it simply: the general population just slips through it, and would not care if it has ever existed or not. They will use it for memes and tiktok videos, where it is the most accessable.
2.) Its a common comment of AI-enthusiasts: "omg imagine that you go home and type in what kind of movie you want to watch and AI will generate it to you." Okay this can happen. But I have two sidenotes to it: a.) Not everyone eats McDonalds all week. b.) I am already fed up with the algorythms of streaming services. Please surprise me. And it connects to point:
3.) People value art because of the artist. I can go out and spray some graffiti over a cctv camera this night, no one will care. But if Banksy does.... And people value the COMMON experience art brings to them. I mean if everybody can have their Game Of Thrones episodes who will talk about game of thrones episodes anymore?
So can I imagine a future where people go home and open StreamAI (a hypothetic AI) and finetune what kind of movie they want to see that night?
    Yes I can.
As there are fast food chains.
But you know what is evolving also? Healty living both physically, mentally, enviromentally and the search for craftmanship and authenticity. (doesnt matter if you live be these values or not. its also an existing trend)
So worst case scenario: we will jobbless in 2-10 years. Best case scenario: Finally we can care about the more interesting (and economically valuable) staff than doing that logo for the deli at the corner you didn't even wanted to do.

So why the hell would I ever use ai to generate the stuff I want to make lol? It’s impossible to control the output, and in the 2-4 times I’ve tried to make any of the ai generators make something halfway decent (mostly out of curiosity) I’ve always been left extremely unimpressed. It's funny, because a LOT of severely disabled people DO make art. All the time. It doesn't need to be democratized when they already do it(tho making more accommodations for them would be very good + cool) Artists will always find a way, even if they have massive hurdles. Not to speak for them or anything, but I'd imagine that it'd be deeply unsatisfying to make ai art as a disabled person, because disabled artists are driven by the same things as non disabled artists. AI art is the wrong way to help them. Generating the prompts doesn't involve any parts of the artistic process. It feels cool to see the pixels all materialize on screen, but because you're not actually making anything yourself it doesn't have any lasting satisfaction. If I suddenly lost all feeling in my hands, I'd start using my toes to draw instead. I can't pour my soul and sweat and tears into a generator. It'll spit out a pretty image, and that's it.
But seriously, I've seen seriously disabled artists who don't make particularly high quality art still find community and make some bucks on commissions. Usually it's furry art tbf

isn't art an integrative process that requires remembering all sorts of methodologies in their full along with tricks learned along the way? experience is a privileged context and proper memory too. I did a process and painted a painting of a mans face and people like it. only problem is.. how did id do it? i was under the direction of a professor. kind of teachers pet situation. failed all my other classes and that painting was 100% of the credit for the only college class I've passed and probably ever will. just those word-facts in my head.

@@AkkarisFox I wouldn't say required. Even a muddle of paint a baby smears on construction paper counts as art, simply because the intention was to create. I think technique doesn't make an artist- only desire does.
When I said 'the artistic process' what I really meant, and should've written, was 'any artistic process'. There is no 'The' artistic process. There is just the choice to create, the journey of creation, and sometimes, if you're lucky a final product. (I-- a chronic sketcher-- rarely produce a final product.) I don't think that to be an artist you have to remember any specific methodologies or even ever become aware of them. It's like what he said in the video, "we're all born artists". A baby has no clue what it's doing. Yet, it creates. I was an artist long before I ever learned 'anatomy' or 'color theory' or 'shape'-- all aspects of 'the' artistic process of drawing. I was an artist long before I even could hold a pencil. Memory and experience are privileged contexts, you're right, but they're also only an extra well to draw on. Although I've heard arguments that they are the basis for artistry, I only somewhat agree:
Art can be created even if your only context is just your last second of memory. All you need is sentience.

I work as an artist for a small game company. What I do day to day, an AI could not replace. There is FAR too much discussion, back and forth, understanding what someone wants, understanding very abstract and vague goals and trying to make sense of them - all human things an AI cannot do. This is also present in software engineering (which I also worked as for a few years). A lot of time a client doesn't know what they want, or what they say they want is not what they need. This is because they lack the essential technical skills. Basically, if you want to fully replace these jobs, you need to recreate the human brain.
Also, even now AI seemingly has no sense of composition and design skills. It's very obvious if you're used to seeing very good, skilled art. The lack of intention (which you need a human brain for) is clear.

It’s probably been mentioned already, but the most glaring issue with plagiarism apps (a more honest description), is that the user is usually not a real artist or graphic designer with real knowledge and experience. Just the fact that if a piece of digital art corrupts for whatever reason, a real artist using these tools, still has the skills to produce real work with their real genuine skill, talent and experience. What is a “prompt typer” going to do? Start learning to draw and paint like real artists had to do? That’s going to take them years of mistakes to learn from.

@@TheArtMentor doesn’t help that a lot of the art scammers now in days use AI which leaves commissioners with a bad experience which helps them want to get real artists to do real art. So if anything it’s strengthening people’s need for real art, even if the art is of a lower standard.
Shad from Shadiversity proves that even if you constantly re-render and re-submit AI art and have the computer do all the work, the art will still look awful. You have to actually understand art to fix the issues and to not re-run it back into the AI systems. Look up “Shadiversity AI Art” he genuinely thinks he puts enough effort in for his AI images to be considered art. It’s quite sad really.

_AI has taken over all areas of creative ventures for the human race. Clare must travel to the heart of the city and take it down before it destroys the creativity of the human race._
I found the prompt so incredibly funny.

I've been saying something like this for a while. Some people like Shad Brooks uses it for book covers because its cheaper than hiring a competent artist in the style he wants. Sooner or later, like everything from corporate, they're going to start asking for money. Its a bad idea being dependent on an outside agency for your production pipeline. Look at what happened with Clip Studio Paint and its licensing changes recently. Or Unity and the stink it raised by trying to soak its free grade user base. Or for that matter some of the things Photoshop did to force upgrades on people by making your old files no longer be readable. (happened a long time ago, but it did happen) This is why I stick to FOSS software
Why? Nobody can put a paywall on it without serious consequences. Open source projects don't own their own code. The volunteers who wrote it do. Try and change the license without their permission and they can and will pull their code. Crippling the software. So FOSS will stay FOSS. My go to program is Krita. Also thinking of getting into Blender which has become insanely powerful.

Artists probably don't want to work with someone who spends a significant amount of time re-tweeting not so nice anti artist sentiments, for example. So I am a bit skeptical that 'cost' is the primary issue, especially considering they have a direct connection to a very popular artist.
