I stopped sharing art after AI became a mass thing because I hated the idea of it stealing my work just to recycle it out for any random person who clicked a button enough times, potentially to sell to other people who don't know any better. I didn't want to feed its theft.

@@TheArtMentor Now I just have a hard time taking those people seriously on account that these are the same crowd who champion other scams like Crypto and NFTs, and bonkers ideas like Google Glass back in the 2010s. I've taken to calling them "binary-brained homunculi", on account of the myth of artificially made humans and playing on how these people are incapable of any form of independent thought outside of what a computer or deluded tech mogul tells them to think. And their collection of ad hominems like "democratizing" something that's been free to do since, well, caveman times pretty much, and calling critics or real artists "fascists" or "Nazis" thus diminishing the actual severity of what those groups did to actual flesh and blood humans.
Speaking as a digital artist, I actually respect traditional artists way more. I gravitated to digital more due to lack of space and the fact I've severe dust allergy so I'd be sneezing up a storm and my eyes would go red when drawing on paper. That is to say I'm not using it as an excuse, I've tried to gradually revert to traditional, complete with sketchbooks, quality wooden coloring pencils I bought many years back that are still usable, and these nifty perspective aids you can put under paper with the aid of an LED light table. It's just that I'm juggling three different passions on top of a job (I'm a writer and voice over artist too) so sometimes things just get left on the wayside.

Apparently the numbers of disillusioned people is growing, because their "Ai art sells" have started to rapidly decline due to one, the bad looks overall and two, the market rule of something getting a very very low price the more abundant it is. And places like Etsy are flooded with AI stuff.

As time goes on, many of them are absolutely convinced that generative AI is nothing more than another VR/crypto trend. Yes, including the man who makes AI his career. It is a creative and cultural dead end. The way the technology works just doesn't lend itself to indefinite improvement in that field. (That is, generative AI.) Much like you said, the technology DOES have valid uses in some fields. Such as research, medicine, and logistics, but creative work is not something that the technology will ever be good at. AI is affecting mental health of those who use it for work too. What many are doing, some not realizing, is that they are telling something else to do most of the thinking while they will be left with the fixing part of the job, which might sound nice and easy at first but it's also the most boring and repetitive side of whatever you're doing. What they ultimately get is that they are turning any job into a repetitive, mindless grind, much more than what they would have faced if they did the whole process themselves. Sure, it's faster, but will it still be a job you enjoy few months from now? Or will it have turned just like factory job, when they added CNC machinery and all that improved is productivity while the job is an absolute grind, where the humans are forced to adapt to the new speed standard and can't catch a break for a damn minute? I did 7 years with CNCs and 6 years with manual machinery after. I learnt that manual machinery is harder, slower and less precise, but God if it was much more fulfilling and immensely less boring.
AI is the multimedia version of that. All it does it trivialize your job and turn it into an eternal, mindless grind where you need to rush the whole time, yet every minute feels like hours. It is why I despise the idea of it introduced for meaningful activities such as creating something yourself.

Having spent the last couple of years obsessivly looking at AI art I am getting a sense that it's hit some kind of plateau- I see a lot 'rendering' improvements in terms of getting details and surfaces better- but in terms of storytelling and narrative most AI art fails badly- AI images don't seem to hold my attention in the same way a well crafted human image does.
Non Artists take the view that visual Art is all about technique and rendering but that's not really true- what makes a good piece of art is it's ability to suggest narrative, to convey a sense of meaning- very few AI generated images seem to posses this quality- they are the visual equivilent of the 'show not tell' problem in literature- just as a good writer will not simply tell you things but show you things, a good work of art does not simply display picture elements in a formal and literal way- it shows those elements 'in medais res' as part of an ongoing story.
AI may never be able to do this because it does not really 'think' the way human artists think- for example to successfully depict multiple characters interacting in an image you need to develop some 'theory of mind' regarding those characters and the nature of their relationship to each other, then compose and light that image to successfully convey those relationships- human artists do this instinctively- but getting an AI to incorporate these kinds of considerations into it's outputs may be for ever beyond reach- certainly these kinds of insights are well beyond the capabilites of the current generation of AI Art programmes.

A lot of people dont understand thatthe situation is a bit more multifaceted than just the consumers not caring of how AI generation sffects artists, while it is true that most consumers dont care about how automated a particular industry is unless it affects them directly, the fact of the matter is that generative AI isnt just a threat to just visual artist but any job that requires expression through a visual medium, that means models, photographers, 2d artists, 3d artists, news broadcasters, actors, content creators etc, and not to mention the copyright cesspool that AI has caused with all the impending lawsuits. The fact of the matter is with all the industries that it threatens not just individual jobs, people will start rejecting this type of content in mass since its a tool at its core designed to undercut people. Eventually it will also cannibalize itself because if in the future AI can be copyrighted while simultaneously feeding off people's work then eventually nothing will be safe within copyright law, since anyone can use your "ai work" to create content and use it then no one's work will truly be safe under copyright law and thus we'll just have a meaningless cesspool of trash content with no heart behind it and no one can claim it as their own true artistic expression, at least for those who prefer to use AI to make their content. Also the huge potential for political misinformation with deepfakes, scams and how it might affect evidence in law which at that point once those particular issues become more prominent you will start seeing more government intervention and regulations since this will directly affect them a swell. SO huge rant aside, the consumers dont care for now but they will when it's a threat to almost every job. Sadly sometimes things need to get much worse before it gets better but it will once people see what this "tool" will be used to do, it's a tool of theft and deceit more than anything else, but thing's will get better once people understand that cons vastly out weigh the pros.

I've used AI art for a while, and I'm starting to get fatigued by it. It's only good for doing certain types of poses and certain types of characters. After a while, my mind has started glossing over AI images, and the human created ones really stand out. I think this will happen to everyone eventually, so that images made with AI will fade into the background.

Though it is amusing to see the whole thing as a study, before AI art was a thing, the actual stress came from me studying higher levels of art styles that... I don't even intend to execute in my personal work.
It might be for fun or leisure, but my art style is always focused on cel-shading and anime, not that airbrush levels of realism (or the doll-face style).
It's understandable if I am playing with concept art and landscapes. But as everyday? It's beyond streesful.
AI art is just a reminder for us traumatized artists that there is always someone much "better"... But I like to believe we're all better... in our own way.

Can I reassure you that your work is equally valuable as those you study or place on a pedestal? What matters most is that your artwork is a reflection of you, not someone else. How does that sound? You grow yourself and your art, not one or the other

I was sad at first... But then, well. After using ai and testing different image generators i couldn't be... It's shitty, bad, generic looking, and as more experienced artist - even high quality art of ai doesn't really get to my heart.
I only like it for ai artifacts like creepy faces and heinous hands. :D

I'm getting real sick of it to be honest. Definitely getting sick of the fake images with "great photography" as a caption (and then it'll be some weird image of a baby and Labrador or a fake person building some supposed giant Jesus-shaped sand sculpture...and people fall for it). It's all just internet litter.
However, while these AI image numbnuts keep littering the internet, I'm gonna continue to draw and paint.

I find AI imagery like fools gold. Maybe it looks like gold on the surface but it’s merely a mimicry or fake. Or fake gems you buy made of plastic from your local dollar store. They’re oversaturated and cheaper, but worth so much less as their soul purpose is to appeal to aesthetics, merely just for the visual element. You wanna see the real hidden gems these days, I like to browse cara for real art. If everyone and their dog can generate an image, what’s so special about it then? Or any AI artist*? They wanna act like they have some sort or skill or talent when they’re going to be just like everyone else who can generate something with a few words. I could care less about how detailed the prompt is either, it’s all just lazy ass crap. Like bruh, you probably just trained a LORA on some poor random artist for their style, bffr.
