Oh no.. I'm really sorry about how things turned out with the matsutaki. Fingers crossed for next season. You did well with the morels, right? Good stuff!!! So what's next? Always so good to watch your videos. Be well. Greetings from Greece.

Hi Helen, We expect to have lower volume seasons here and there but thank you nonetheless. We’re going to have a number of one-off videos over the next couple of months. All are related to wild harvesting in some way but they will be a bit different. We will get back into our usual style of harvesting videos again at some point after that! :) cheers

Thanks guys, great video as always. How many miles do you walk in the average day? Can't wait to see what is next.

It depends on what we’re harvesting. With pines usually between 5 and 10 miles because the terrain is challenging. In burns when harvesting morels, some days we do up to 20 miles but usually closer to 10.
We’re going to have some different videos over the next month, to fill the gap until our next harvesting style videos but we will get back into our usual stuff after a while.

Are there any Matsutaki on the East Coast? Is pine mushroom the same as Matsutaki? It's a hard job but a good way you live. And mushrooms get to people that really appreciate them but could never get any themselves. I read that mushrooms have vitamin D while most other food doesn't.

Yes pine mushrooms are a type of matsutake. There are multiple species that grow in North America but it is common to call any of them "western matsutake". They are different species to the 'Tricholoma matsutake' which is native to Japan but they all fall under the term matsutake, and all have that distinct smell/flavour.
I have not personally harvested Pines on the east coast but I believe they do grow there, although probably less common overall. Try checking areas with jack pine and sand eskers for bumps in the forest floor.
I also hear that mushrooms are high in available Vit D, especially morels, but it's not something I've personally studied. Cheers

Tricholoma murrillianum. Similar to Tricholoma matsutake, known as western matsutake or pine mushrooms in terms of common name.
