Just want to let everyone know that my thumb is fine... just another scar and a flat spot. Thx for everyone's concern and we'll wishes. Shout out to the Dawson City hospital and staff.
Now I know why Randy said "Just wait" when I told him I was glad he missed his eye in an earlier episode. Randy, I am very glad you are okay, I have a flat spot on my first finger where I slipped with a knife. They sewed it back on but as soon as it healed the piece of skin fell off. I was a LOT closer to the hospital and did not cut any veins, you are very quick thinking and lucky too! Great video, wonderful harvest of beautiful Morels. Thanks guys!!
Absolutely love this channel. I always sleep better after the videos. This is my version of white noise/ASMR. Love the editing and the education is wonderful. Sorry to see the mishap but that is just how it can go in the wilderness! Of course it's the last piece. I'm glad everyone is okay and I greatly appreciate the adventure. I wish many more successful journeys for y'all
I'll be watching this tonight, but I just saw the caption saying an injury. I'm hoping everyone is ok. Sending prayers and we surely appreciate you keeping us along with you. See you later tonight!
Stumbled onto your channel! So glad I did! We just started hunting and harvesting morels at our cabin. The person that we are learning from takes the stem and all. I’m going to show her this video and talk to her about the importance of leaving it. Thanks for teaching.
Glad you found us! It is fine to take the stems if there’s no baby morels attached. If you’re harvesting M. americana aka north american yellow morels, the stems are often bigger and firm on that species. Plus they don’t grow in burns, so debris on the stem is less of a problem
Thanks for another lovely video! not only do I get my fill of mushroom foraging, I learn so much about the environment they are growing in from your experienced commentary. And your videography is spot on! ❤️🌲🐿️ 🍄🟫
Tough as nails Randy👍 A wealth of experience and knowledge on your show. Ive learned allot about burn morels by tuning in. Our own little season 2 of picking burn morels is very Close. Super excited . I was raised in Yellowknife. The land of the midnight sun and insomniacs. And mosquitoes lol
Thank you guys I love this show and will never miss a single episode just got back from my little excursion 15lbs took three hours out of two days long drives and left a lot behind 2nd and third flush naturals it’s great I wait another full 365 till next year. But it makes me 😊.
Thanks guys, just when I think that I'm doing well with my morel mushroom season here in Southern Ontario having picked 40 lb (about 1350 yellows) , you guys bring me back to Earth and let me know that I ain't shitt😂
@@northernwildharvest yeah but that's 40 lbs in a whole season lol. Hope this season is going well so far! It was about 15 days early here and is already starting to wrap up... maybe a week more in late spots. We usually have almost the end of May. Is your season early as well?
Hey that’s still way more than I picked outside of the burn this year! We don’t get many yellows here because we mostly have coniferous forests here in BC. Yes it’s earliest we’ve seen for burn morels
Where do you get your baskets and your packs that you carry your baskets on ? Also. The fabric that you have to cover your buckets …. Did you make them or buy them ?
Baskets can be hard to come by. We get them by going in on full shipping container orders across seas. The pack I use is a Tatonka lastenkraxe, it has served me well. The bucket extenders we make ourselves.
Glad the thumb is recovering!! And in one of your videos could you talk about how you organize the business side. I’m not asking about personal details, but how do you set up the money side of several people picking? Is it every man for himself. Does it go in a general pot? Does everyone sell to one person? Is it a co-op? Just a general idea. If you think this is something you would like to talk about??
Most of the time we split our dried mushrooms equally at the end of the season, which includes the person watching camp and drying them. That way we can comfortably be more thorough while out harvesting together.
Nylon material works well. Unless you buy custom material and make it from scratch, the easiest option is to take an sleeping bag cover bag, or old gear bag and retro fit. Make sure its the right diameter to match the bucket, give it a wash then cut off the bottom and attach it with bank line around the rim of the bucket. Draw string at the top
They were just in better shape because they were more protected in the half burnt trees compared to the black areas. We do another grading pass once the season is over and those ones would go in the AAA stock 👍
Rubs the back of the knees too much. Have wanted to sew a custom pocket with foam insert onto pants so that there’s no straps. Over the years? Everything…Bears, moose, caribou, elk, deer, beavers, lynx, wolverine, cougar, many birds and the odd wild bushman (aka Randy)
Took me 3 years to find one study and when you find wait and keep looking from that one point it helps to understand what you see and don’t see every spot is different hang in there
Back in 85 I stuck a 3.5" pocket knife in my wrist trying to fix a water line in a hog barn,,,, buried it... Went to the emergency room and they put three stiches in it and sent me home, An hour later I had a baseball size protrusion on my wrist, I cut the artery and was bleeding out... Went back to the hospital and had emergency surgery... Bunch of idiots, I told them 20 times a buried a knife in my arm and they ignored me... should have sued them...
Damn! Glad you ended up healing up though. That’s why i originally started using the hand pruners for burn harvesting. Sliding around on greasy ash when you’re exhausted, with a sharp blade out caused me a number of injuries that could easily have been a lot worse if i hadn’t been lucky.
Just want to let everyone know that my thumb is fine... just another scar and a flat spot.
Thx for everyone's concern and we'll wishes.

Really illustrates how important it is to have a buddy out in the bush.
Agreed

Very much enjoy my dose of Morel harvesting. Hope Randy did not suffer any long term effects from the injury.
Would love to go and do this for a season, you guys have a great crew.

man what a bench
We strapped it onto of the roof rack on the 3300km drive home. Drove through Vancouver with it up there 😅 looked hilarious

40lbs is a great day even on a burn. Even more impressive picking natural yellows. Well done! Hope it was a good day and the bugs weren’t bad.

What do you guys use to make your "extender" for the 5 gallon buckets?

What makes it a premium mushroom.vs the other ones you've gathered ?
They were just in better shape because they were more protected in the half burnt trees compared to the black areas. We do another grading pass once the season is over and those ones would go in the AAA stock 👍
It's funny m name is Randy also. Suck that here in Indiana morel season sucked this year and pretty much over now
I hope it’s better next spring!
Next video pls❤❤
what is the blue ribbons means?
Which blue ribbons are you referring to?
@@northernwildharvest the blue ribbons on the tree branches. I was thinking it might be something representing a borderline.
Likely from forest fire fighting to mark paths for hauling water pumps etc
How could I get involved to go foraging with you guys. I love to forage
You must do plantation of saffron.
It's sold very costly.
Jay bharat.
We need 2024 harvest I am still waiting
Currently out filming the Autumn mushroom harvest but there will be a 2024 morel series on the channel at some point!
How much do you get paid for the mushrooms? 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️😎😎😎
Its never enough
Questions:
Why don't you wear kneepads?
What wild animals have you encountered?
Rubs the back of the knees too much. Have wanted to sew a custom pocket with foam insert onto pants so that there’s no straps.
Over the years? Everything…Bears, moose, caribou, elk, deer, beavers, lynx, wolverine, cougar, many birds and the odd wild bushman (aka Randy)
I been looking and I haven’t found one morel mushroom yet
Took me 3 years to find one study and when you find wait and keep looking from that one point it helps to understand what you see and don’t see every spot is different hang in there
FYI-Morel mushrooms can be deadly if eaten raw.
Ewww. Glad you are ok randy.
