Old School Records is hands down my favorite record store that I have found. Super reasonable prices and you can tell that the owner hand picks the records. Speaking of the owner... WOW! Talk about a character and a wealth of knowledge. Somebody told me that he was Frank Zappa's guitar tech for a couple of years.
That is very interesting about Mike. I was very happy I stopped there, super friendly place, would have loved to have spent more time there but family wanted to keep moving, they don’t enjoy records lol
Yes, I was eyeing that Leaves album but I think it was kind of battered so I moved on. Johnny Cash in the 60s was big but not for kids. I didn’t much care for him, it wasn’t until the 80s that I began to enjoy his music.
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 absolutely - Jersey (Mike) is a dear friend, and I've been his biggest fan every step of the way in the process. Thanks so much for the awesome video!
That looked like a very nice town. Amazing view from the store window! 😮 Ah yes, Brickell... I thought I had one of her albums. Not so sure now? She got all quiet...
She she did Morten, marry Paul Simon and don’t have to worry about making another album. It is always interesting to find these stores in the mountain towns.
Looks like their selections are worth checking out. Like quite a few other record stores nowadays some of the albums were a little pricey. But the titles were interesting. Nice tour Steve. Always good to catch up with you on your continued adventures in finding the top notch record shops~ Rob/Boston
Rob, always a pleasure to hear from you. I guess I had about depleted Michigan record stores so now I need to shake down all the CO stores lol. Prices are high out here, this store , at least on my purchase, was fair compared to discogs. That doesn’t happen very often out here
Thanks for showing the reggae section though there wasn't too much. Funny to see the Shuffle Demons in there at 6:23, they were out of Toronto and had a novelty song called Spadina Bus that got played on MuchMusic in the 80's. A lot of Canadian stuff in that shop actually, Doug & the Slugs in the same bin too, I used to have that album back then, one of my few original records that went missing somehow. Cheers Steve
Doug, the reggae section was shown specifically for you, you can never forget your friends! I will have to say the Canadian music you mentioned I have no idea about. Must have had some people from Canada move into the area!
Hey Steve. Another great record store video. Prices seemed pretty good over all. I have that Monks "Bad Habits" album he had on the wall. I have those Baker Gurvitz Army albums you flipped by, they're killer! Love that Manfred Mann & Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66. Nice snag on the clean copy of Edie Brickell. Cheers
Bobby, I use to have that Bad Habits and the Baker albums but I have not brought them back into the collection yet, call it space limitations. I am going to have to do a purge again Bobby
I really liked the sign he created above the entrance. The mountains always impressed me. We have jv mountains in Pa but they're nothing compared to the varsity peaks there 😊
That was a fun looking shop! There’s a small one in Estes park last I knew. I’m seeing the elevation numbers instead of population like other states have. One of my favorite bumper stickers out there was in Alma it read “never trust anyone below 10,000 feet” 😂
Never trust anyone below 10,000 feet, that is hilarious. I have been to the Estes Park store, not very good and quite expensive for some beat up product. In CO it’s all about elevation!
Jane, I have been to Scotland, love that country. Thank you for watching and subscribing. I have done at least 100 record store tours do to my work travel. It is always interesting to see what each store carries but it can always be very expensive due to all the temptation lol
Hey Steve. I love Frisco, it’s a lovely place to stop and stroll around on the way to Leadville. I’ll have to check out Old School on the way through next year. I heard there’s major road work going on I-70 around Idaho Springs, smoothing out some sharp curves in that spot. Have a great weekend!
They have been working around Idaho Springs for awhile, not sure how much they can do in the winter. Frisco was very nice and the record store is worth a visit, cheaper than most stores I have visited.
Wow those mountains! Jorma Kaukonen is always name that is nice to see though I haven't listened his solo stuff enough. Nice looking shirt. mr. Finglish (Bäd English Recs)
Mr Finglish, this may surprise you but I don’t know Kaukonen. Big shocker my friend. The mountains here are incredible, it is very peaceful and beautiful
Steve, you're always on the go! It looks like a cool little store. Was that a Greatest Hits Kenny Rogers album on the wall? On the other end of the spectrum, I saw Tracy Chapman's Crossroads, which is fantastic.
Mark, sadly during the summer I’m working non stop so yes now it is about seeing everything we possibly can without going broke lol. I guess Kenny Roger’s is well thought of up here lol. Must be something special about it, maybe…
Cute little store, some great titles that I could have used, some prices were great and others seemed a little steep, but I have a feeling things would even out if you were picking up several. But it also seemed that he priced according to the condition of the record which is great. I love that Edie Brickell record, I need a new one.
Hello Steve; The store had a lot of GiT In It! Hope the T-shirt was comped for the free advertisement. The store can be rated based on whether the prices were decently fair. No second mortgage needed to purchase. Looks like you enjoyed yourself, which is what counts! Take care, Tina & Pat!~
I wish I got that T Shirt for free. A couple record stores have done that, not many though. Looking at all the stores I have hit in CO so far this one was priced more fairly. Maybe I pay extra for the scenery?
I just got my GAGAKU record. I work Six a days a week at the hospital on 12 mile and Hover so my time with a record is respected on the little time I have with it. I will turn this record into something that only I will love. Also I can't stop playing the new MARILYN MANSON record when I am making my Mexican Dinner. WOW ! Is that record great. 40 rpms. 😮
lol Martin, those speeded up records crack me up. 6 days a week, are you glad to be back at the hospital after some time with the postal service and Walgreens? It does sound exhausting
I lived in Summit County for a couple of years in the mid 1990s. The only record store I remember was one in Silverthorne that I think doesn't exist anymore. I was pretty broke then but I think a few of my CDs were bought there. You can tell it's Colorado and not Kentucky because the reggae section has rekkids by people not named Marley.
How about that stock music at the beginning? Yeah, those guys never heard of “Let It Be.” Some very nice records there. I could use a couple of those Strawbs titles. But the prices, while not completely insane, are still too high. That Flash album right at the beginning that they had two copies of, both priced in the 20s? I bought a VG+ copy of that a few months ago for three bucks. You were tempted by that Grace Jones, weren’t you? I woulda been, too. I think you’re paying for the scenery. That really is gorgeous. I think I’d pay just to look at those mountains.
In Colorado I am always paying for the scenery Michael, great point. Yes, the 12” Grace Jones definitely had me interested, I love her music though most are her interpretations of other peoples music she just puts up cool vibe on the songs. I definitely have seen a lot higher prices, that album I bought was fairly priced I thought but it’s sure not Michigan!
I will do a video dedicated to the Japanese Court Music record. I did very little to it while recording it. It did not need much in the way of change. Just like The Africa Screams record you have turned me on to a sound that makes life fun.
Jack, most record stores are pricey to you lol. They did have bargain crates under the bins. Someday I need to show them just for you! I tend to go for the expensive stuff!
Seems like a nice little store, Professor. I have the Edie Brickell on CD, always thought it was a great album, better than they got. Hasn't she done some recent stuff with Steve Martin? I thought they'd done a couple of his bluegrass projects together...hmmmm....
This was an interesting store. I saw a bunch of buck albums selling for 10-15 dollars or more. 17 bucks for a Herb Alpert record (have you ever seen a Herb Alpert record sell for more than a buck)? 25 bucks for Kenny Rogers Greatest Hits (I almost fainted)?? And yet, some of the costlier albums were priced about right. Very confusing.
Darrell I keep finding stores like that, pricing is all over the place. Maybe Roger’s was autographed lol. Pricing has been crazy in CO. This store at least had some albums at a decent price. Confusing is describes the pricing the best
3:22 - Sure 10cc get a kick out of being in the Reggae section ! " They Don't Like Reggae , They Love It ! "
You n3ver heard the reggae influences in all their music David? lol

That Johnny Cash lunch pail has to be new. Back in the day no kid would be caught dead with that.
2:17 Leaves is a favorite.
😂
Yes, I was eyeing that Leaves album but I think it was kind of battered so I moved on. Johnny Cash in the 60s was big but not for kids. I didn’t much care for him, it wasn’t until the 80s that I began to enjoy his music.
@ I was late to Johnny and country music in general as well.
Cool store. Lots of records and posters. Love that Edie Brickell record too.
Just trying to get to every store in CO Steve and not spend too much money which is the challenge for me
old school records is the best!
Gregory, I guess you are very familiar with the shop. I had a good time there

Rob/Boston
The prices didn't seem that bad compared to some of Steve's other store tours...
Isn’t that the truth, these were some of the better prices. Man, they charge a lot out here lol
Rob, always a pleasure to hear from you. I guess I had about depleted Michigan record stores so now I need to shake down all the CO stores lol. Prices are high out here, this store , at least on my purchase, was fair compared to discogs. That doesn’t happen very often out here
Great vid Steve! I love Breckenridge! So beautiful there! Love that Edie brickell record too!
Todd, we had a great time there and it was beautiful. Amazing where you can find a record store
The prices looked way more realistic compared to some of your reason record store visits! Nice store! Beautiful location.
Andy, they were much better but CO overall is expensive for vinyl. I think I need to ask for a raise to support my habit lol
Thanks for showing the reggae section though there wasn't too much. It's wonderful to move to place that a lot of places to have a good time in.
Martin, so true, so much darn stuff to do and see, I’m really enjoying it and lots of sunshine!

Yes the PA mountains are called foothills out here lol. I always loved driving through the Allegheny Mountains but the Rockies are pretty amazing
That was a fun looking shop! There’s a small one in Estes park last I knew. I’m seeing the elevation numbers instead of population like other states have. One of my favorite bumper stickers out there was in Alma it read “never trust anyone below 10,000 feet” 😂

New subscriber here from Scotland and love seeing old record stores from across the big pond. Thanks for your vlog

My niece Naava was born in Frisco. Great town.
It is Dave, really enjoyed Friso and need to explore it some more
Mike I didn't think it was possible to hate reggae, but that YT generated soundtrack really did the trick 👍Cheers....Mike
Lmao, I can’t win with my choices of YT tracks haha. I’m pretty sure their whole library will just create utter disappointment Mike.
If I am ever in the neighbourhood, I will stop by.
Brian, I think you would enjoy yourself and what a view from the store!
Man oh man those are some high prices Steve. Time to go
Art, Mile High in the sky so prices follow lol. I guess your paying for the scenery my friend

Martin, that was fun what you did with the music. I’m glad you were able to get a copy and listened to something besides Marilyn Manson lol
I think that prices in Colorado are altitude dependent.
That explains it!
lol, it’s either that or smoking too much weed. Whatever it is finding a bargain is hard. At least r3cord stores are cheaper than antique stores lol
Nice store, but maybe a little on the pricey side. Always worth checking out the record stores while doing the tourist thing. Cheers.

The used records there seemed to be really used. Very surprising to see Sweetwater and i guess the og press.
Pasi
This place it way up in the mountains so it always surprises me what you can find. Pricing is all over the place though
I think you have been in more record stores in the past year than I have my whole life. Nice selection but over priced.
Don, I probably have seen more than most, about one a week. I am getting better at not buying much which is tough, too much temptation.
Ridiculous high prices
Kind of the story of record shopping in Colorado sadly
