Hello Steve; Khana Bierbood, Thailand funk, soul & roll. High Vis, post alternative new wave. A Peace Of Us, syn, dream pop. Chris Cross, Mellow-Mas music. Always nice to receive VCLT from a friend. Dr. Dre, put your fingers in the air. Clifton Chenier Zydeco master, Louisiana Boogie hot sauce. Take care, Tina & Pat!~
Louisiana Boogie Hot Sauce, I like that. Fits my eating habits! I love a little spice but as I’m getting older I know that will probably be coming to an end , sigh. A lot of different sounds today Tina and Pat
Always have to supports those awesome channels! Chance any help would be great with a design. A couple of people have mentioned sending something. I think an album coming up over the Mountains like a morning sun would be cool. Someone suggested maybe lower having a cat walking toward it. It just needs to say Early Morning Sunday Show Maybe a better idea will pop up but at my age that seems unlikely lol
Steve, Denver has the highest trees, they’re pretty tall, too. Dr. Dre the Chronic is the only one you need. Cool you found all that Zydeco, Clifton Chenier. Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 I have something coming from Aurora? Hmmm 🤔 the Zonkman
Lmao Zonkman, yes the highest and tallest trees! I thought I needed some gangsta rap, still trying to build up credibility in the VC ! Something is heading your way, be on the lookout.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 That is completely fine. I know you get tons of messages. I just knew when I heard it that you would like it. I might be lucky that i just play mine at my record store, so my wife doesn't have to hear it. Lol
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 It is right outside of Scott Air Force Base just over the border from St Louis (Vinyl Zone Records). I am friends with a lot of local VC members. Chance, Brandon (Mrhoffame), and Robert Fifthen. We have a fun record community here. I also run a record show on the Illinois side (Metro East Record Show). It is very hard not to keep everything for sure.
Hi Steve, I was out toward your way (Santa Fe) last week. Everyone had a cold, including me. Really like the sound of High Vis, will check out more of their music. A Peace Of Us, cool album cover! Nice records from Mark, very thoughtful. Have a good week, thanks.
Ralph, I hope you had a safe trip to Santa Fe, such a nice place, great food. High Vis was a surprise, another great VC recommendation that I have to quite jumping on lol. It’s expensive doing this with all the good suggestion.
Great video as usual Steve! I got that Christopher Cross record on RSD Black Friday! Love that album. The first song you place “The Best Christmas” is a beautiful song. I actually have a the first version he did on a Christmas collection CD. Great stuff!
That Luna/Sonic Boom LP sounds pretty good, I'll be checking that out. Cool VCLT from Mad4Vinyl, I'd be interested in hearing what that Black Flag sounds like. Nice acquisitions this week Steve. Hope you have a great Holiday!🎄
Michael, I have been warned about that Blsck Flag, not an easy listen. I have not spun it yet. Luna/Sonic Boom was great, nice twist to Christmas music which is always fun
Morning, thanks for the mention , glad to be of assistance in reducing your bank balance😁 pleased you enjoyed High Vis. Looking forward to your end of year list (which will probably help spend my cash!) Sneaking another recommendation, sorry, Blue Mountain County, not my usual thing but can't stop playing it, late contender for fave of the year! Have a good Christmas, cheers 🍺
Clifton was great. Beau Jocque and his Zydeco Hi-Rollers made some great cd's in the nineties. He passed in 1999, if you ever see one grab it. Powerful live shows. I was fortunate to have seen them four or five times.
I am jealous, you have been to some zydeco shows. I have heard of Beau Jocque but having nothing from them. It is just such happy danceable music, been a fan since my early 20s.
High Vis looks interesting & I love the sleeve, looks like the view outside my living room window! Speaking of UK indie pop have you heard 'Midas' by the band Wunderhorse? Reckon you would love it..or your money back!. Equal parts Smashing Pumpkins,Nirvana & even CBGB's era guitar stuff. Have a great Sunday Steve!
Harris, I do like a money back guarantee I’m sad about the room from your living room, it appears to be cold and bleak. I had this vision you had some type of country estate with peacocks roaming the grounds probably also have some nice statue outside of a Greek good. I guess I had that all wrong. The music in High Vis was top notch. Wunderhorse sounds very interesting, I will check them out, maybe get a 12 inch single while I’m at it
Wow, congratulations on getting that Dean And Britta record. I pre-ordered it from their Bandcamp a couple weeks before it came out. Then a week or so after the listening party I received an e-mail from them telling me that the record was delayed and they would be shipping it to me in January! Ha ha....just what I need! Cool VCLT from Mark. Happy Holidays Steve!
No kidding on the Dean and Britta album. Nothing more exciting than Xmas tunes in January. I got mine off of Amazon after someone told me about it Randy. It is very good, love having Sonic Boom on it.
Very cool Steve! You got a lot of albums coming in! Nice Christmas albums! I can’t wait to get that Khana Bierbood! It’s on the way! Hopefully early this week.
Love the Christmas psychedelia fest..yeah, a few tokes on something exotic would definitely blow yer mind..😛..nice idea for the logo with the rising vinyl record as the sunrise..you could also have a silhouette of Kat walking towards it..would be a nice nod to him. The Thai record had some good energy going on, elements of Santana in the first song, then indie rock??. A Peace of Us sounds intriguing..I like it when artists don't just carbon copy covers and make it unique I didn't know Clifton Chenier..sounds fun. Hope the cold clears up soon Steve .
Rob, what a wonderful thought about Kat Walking towards it, I like that a lot. Yeah I think I would look pretty cool. A Peace of Us was a great Christmas album, to your point they created something original. Having Sonic Boom really added some fun sounds to the album. I am a big fan of Zydeco Music Rob. When I look at discogs a lot of the albums for sale are out of Europe, pretty crazy. It is very regional music but I’m a big fan of it
I liked the Thai band samples. I really need to check High Vis out. They're new to me. Loved the samples. Dean & Britta very 60's sounding. The Christmas album I always dig out is Low's. Chenier is interesting, especially the blues one, though the boogie gets your feet tapping! I hope your cold gets better soon, Steve
Andy, check out High Vis, they jumped into my top group of albums for the year, I really love their sound along with Khana Bierbood. Still trying to figure out my top albums, it has been tough
I'm a big fan of Clifton Shriner's music. I first discovered it through Paul Simon. I'd rank Chronic as one of my top five favorite rap albums. The foundation of those songs draws from my all-time favorite 70s funk artists. I hope you enjoy the albums. Have a wonderful holiday with your family.
Huge thank you as a,ways for the music Mark, your generosity is unmatched. Chenier is my favorite Zydeco player, he stayed the most traditional which I liked. Chronic was fun to get, after 94 rap kind of dies away for me
Hans, that best of 2024 has been so hard to do, I got way too many great albums this year though most are one many people won’t know. It was a great year. If you like hard Post Punk music give High Vis a shot my friend, it had a great punch to it.
Hopefully, we meet up ! His family lives in the part of Bangkok, where my wife grew up. As far as the record goes, I really like it, and I might pick one up in Amsterdam in the spring. I hear that kind of Issan style music through the years, so I am accustomed to that old Thai country singing style. Thai Pop BTW is excellent !
Breckenridge give you a cold, Professor? You sound stuffy today, heh heh...thanks for the mention, the Cross album is pretty damn good as holiday albums go, for sure, his smooth voice fits all he did on the album. I'll check out "A Peace Of Us", see what it sounds like. Not sure I would have posted that particular Dre sample that you used, but hey, live dangerously, dude. Hope you have a great week and a wonderful holiday season, sir!
Yeah, I have a heck of a cold TC, it was bound to happen. The Cross album is beautiful. It is so well put together and his voice is perfect. I loved the other Xmas album but it is a whole lot different, but it has 3 musicians that I really love. TC I don’t hear lyrics, Dr Dre sounded find to me lol. I figured the video is on YT so I should be good to go!
Steve, I thought that your opening was a psychedelic grain silo, until you explained. Lol. Blood is the only thing that I have ever seen running down your face, compliments of Kat.
Chris, I can totally see the thought about a psychedelic grain silo lol. It was super cool looking tree, very trippy! I would rather deal with snot over blood Chris , RIP Kat
That is interesting but makes sense Khana Bierbood coming to Japan. Thai music usually scares me but this was quite good, something a little different Jeff
Sweet pick ups! Have you ever got into Peruvian Psychedelic music like the band Traffic Sounds might be up your alley they got a great album called A Bailar A Go Go.
Zydeco rules!. When I worked for Rounder Records(1988/89).My immediate Supervisor ,nicest guy you wanna meet) was named Pete Weather bee Was in two Zydeco groups. The Boogaloo Swamis & The Hubcaps.. You can stream their stuff on UA-cam Cheers.....
Isa, that is amazing but Rounder makes sense for someone digging Zydeco. Not many talk about it but I love it. I will check out those two groups, I have not heard of either of those two groups.
Merry Christmas Steve, that amazing Christmas tree light extravaganza at the start in Denver is just like the one in Funchal, Madeira when we were there recently. Zam rock now Thai psych? you must be mad but sounds funky. I will check out that High Vis one, never heard of them. Sonic Boom doing Christmas records? Cheers, Paul
Paul, Funchal Madeira? Okay I consider myself good with geography but this has gone over my head and will have to look this up. Yeah, I could do a world psych video Paul, lot of great stuff especially as I dig into newer groups. Not sure what musical road 2025 will lead me down
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Hi Steve, Madeira is south of Portugal off the African coast near the Canary Islands. lots of Brits go there in the winter, lovely island. I have run out of space in my vinyl room mainly due to your recommendations! Just got the Open Mind RSD issue on vinyl. Cheers, Paul
Man Christopher Cross still sounds exactly the same as he did in the 80's, I used to have his first two albums but got rid of them at some point, thinking they were kinda wimpy but I guess he has been reappraised with the whole yacht rock thing trending in more recent years. I was into NWA but by the time The Chronic came out I had mostly tuned out of rap so I've never owned or heard that one in full. The Thai album sounds good, lots of energy. Have a good week Steve
I love that first Christopher across album Doug, it is a favorite but I never bought anything else from him. I figured he would have the perf3ct voice for a Christmas album and he did! I grew up with yacht rock so I really like that genre, for the most part. After the mid 90s I totally drifted from rap until Eminem came around, I did like his first couple of albums
Even though Christmas is my favorite holiday, I generally loathe Christmas music. "Fairytale Of New York" is my favorite Yuletide song. I have fond memories of a 2 year-old Dr. Darby dancing to it in a pub during one of my visits to the British Midlands. I will definitely check out High Viz.
High Vis was great Darrell. I love most Xmas music especially secular but that’s my upbringing. Working retail ruined a few songs for me but overall the music makes me smile but not spend more.
Mike, is it x-mas time over there too? The Thai album has very groovy artwork & it looked like it's on the great Guru Guru label. High Vis sounds great & had an instantly familiar sound. I've wondered about Dean & Britta & Sonic Boom. I worked in retail when I was young so normally I steer clear of any x-mas music. Thankfully that doesn't sound like x-mas music at all in your samples. Chris Cr0ss should redo Ride Like The Wind to Ride On A Sleigh. Vinyl Richie showed Echo Chamber. It's good. I like Black Flag, but the Process Of Weeding Out is a tough listen. Mike just by showing the Chronic you've probably reignited the East Coast/West Coast rivalry in the VC. I've never seen that many records with accordions Mike!! You've done it again Mike. Cheers...Mike
Mike, who better to show the Chronic than me, the man with all the street cred! I’m upping my cool factor. Guru guru label does no wrong Thai music can be a little iffy but this had a great groove, worth looking into, support those neighbors to the North of you. Cross definitely was pure Xmas but Dean and Britta and Sonic had such a cool sound to it, I am really enjoying it though most of my time is spent spinning records from this year. I’ve spent a month Mike trying to figure out my favorites. I bought too much damn it
"I know what Santa likes, I know what Santa wants / I know what Santa likes, Santa likes, Santa likes cookies" Steve, I'm guessing you know the song whose lyrics I altered above. It's "I Know What Boys Like" by The Waitresses. On Thursday, when I was in Walmart, I heard what is far and away the most popular song by the band: "Christmas Wrapping." It's a song that brings holiday cheer to some and annoys others. Christmas songs are like that, aren't they? I can't say I care much for it. When it comes to Christmas rapping, my go to is "Christmas In Hollis" by Run-D.M.C. Chris Butler, the founder of The Waitresses, didn't think of "Christmas Wrapping" as a rap song. His words: “I didn't think so much of it as a rap because that was too new, and I did not have the cultural background for that." Butler has an interesting background. I remember we talked to each other about musicians who were present at the Kent State massacre. Butler was at the shooting. He was a friend of Jeffrey Miller, one of the people who was killed. He'd once leant Jeffrey his drum kit. Billy Ficca, the drummer for Television, was also the drummer for The Waitresses. I apologize if you knew this info already. This brings me to the comments we made for your video on Record Store Day. We mentioned how many artists were first introduced to listeners through rap songs. I'm guessing the first time I heard Parliament was in the song "Let Me Ride" by Dr. Dre. And it's interesting that you chose that clip to play, because that segment of the song is one of my biggest earworms. I couldn't tell you how many times I've sung that to myself. Being a maniac's son, not a minister's son, I had not heard "Swing Down, Sweet Chariot." "Swing Low," yes. "Swing Down," no. Then I learned about Chariots of the Gods and the UFO (Mothership) connection. And on Christmas Eve, there's the Santa Claus connection. Since many Christmas Eve UFO sightings are actually sightings of Santa's sleigh, it's an easy mistake to make. Just like I think it's easy to mistake a snowman for an Abominable Snowman. One snowy day, I came home and some kids had made a large snowman in my yard. When I looked out my back window, I thought I was under attack by an Abominable Snowman. I called it in and was told I could be arrested for prank calling 911. I told them it was no prank, that I was not a crank, nor was I on crank. I screamed at them that I'm not my dad. But they told me not to call back or I'd be visited by the police. I did feel quite embarrassed when I realized my mistake. This brings me to Christmas Day 2022. It was a white Christmas. I decided to enjoy the snow by going for a walk in a nearby park. There were a lot of people strolling, jogging, and even skiing. Lots of kids were playing there. A lot of them were sledding down the biggest hill in the park. It was like a winter wonderland, like a Norman Rockwell painting brought to life. Then I came across something that rocked me to my core. I saw the outlines of twelve fallen angels in the snow. I knew immediately that they had been murdered by snowballs and fell down and died in the snow. Then their bodies dissipated as angels' bodies do when they die. Angelologists call this "going ethereal." Being a minister's son, you may know that. I took out the caution tape that I carry with me and cordoned off the area around the angels. Then I called 911 and told them the horrifying scene I had come across. To my astonishment, they once again accused me of making a prank call. Once again, I started screaming at them that I wasn't crazy. Once again, this didn't help. And, once again, they told me not to call back or I would be arrested. The difference this time is that my behavior had attracted a crowd of people. A lot of them seemed concerned. But when I told them what happened, they were concerned about me, not the twelve angels that had been brutally murdered. I told them to look at my eyes. "Are these the eyes of a crazy man? Do they spin 'round like a wheel within a wheel?" Then some of the children laughed at me! This was more like Norman RockHell. I knew I wasn't making a mistake this time. I screamed at the children that they'll be judged by higher powers. God and Santa Claus will remember how they laughed at me. A lump of coal in their stocking would be the best thing that could happen to them. More likely, where they were going they were going to burn like coal. Then I noticed a police car coming my way. I knew I wasn't going to be believed, so I took off running. Of course, they had no problem finding me with the tracks I left in the snow. I did end up spending a little time in jail. My sister came and bailed me out. It was the nicest gift I could've asked for. I knew she didn't believe me, but I accepted that. A lot of people didn't believe Jesus. A lot of people don't believe in Santa Claus, or aliens. What is this world coming to? I know you haven't heard of what I called The St. Nicholas Day Massacre. But for me it's a date which will live in infamy, like December 7th, 1941. Later I learned that St. Nicholas Day is on December 6th. But what do you expect from me, I'm not a minister's son. Lastly, I like your idea for the sun logo. It occurred to me that Kat's white-tipped ears resembled snow-capped mountain peaks. So, in a way, your new logo could also be a way of honoring his memory. It's a new day, but we remember old friends. Have a groovy Christmas and a happy New Year. Peace out. Whether one is religious or not, I think we all would love some peace on Earth.✌🌎 "Swing down Santa's sleigh stop and let me ride"
That is a marvelous idea about the logo Roman, I really like that with the cat ears. I will jot that idea down. I swear I’m going to create a book, the Philosophy of Roman and the Untold Stories. This would have to be a best seller. Of course I will give you some of the royalties so you can live a life of leisure! I didnt know all that info about the waitresses. I do know that song seemed to come in about every hour so eventually I began to detest it. That said, they probably still get nice royalties from that. That Mariah Carey Christmas song, another one I can’t tolerate pays her over 3 million dollars every year. Maybe it’s time you write that special Xmas song. If you hit it right you can become a billionaire and run for president. Something to think about. Roman, I hope you and your family have a very merry Christmas

Big fan of Peruvian psych, I have a number of compilations from that genre including Traffic Sounds. South America put out some incredible music
Zydeco rules!. When I worked for Rounder Records(1988/89).My immediate
Supervisor ,nicest guy you wanna meet) was named Pete Weather bee
Was in two Zydeco groups. The Boogaloo Swamis & The Hubcaps..
You can stream their stuff on UA-cam
Cheers.....
Your on top of your game when it comes to new music Steve. Returning the Kat? I’d lov to get out to Colorado one day. Take care art
Pretty amazing state Art as long as g as mile high prices don’t bother you haha.
sorry you're not feeling well..hope you're better soon my friend..peace..rocky
Thank you Rocky, that time of year for cough and colds, at least I blessed with blue skies
Not a bad mug idea, maybe drawn by Scott Aicher?
That’s a great thought Don. It could be pretty cool looking
Steve, where do I look for the 60's styleThai Psych record ? Thanks.. Couldn't find it 😊
JT the label is Guru Guru Brain. It is a favorite label of mine. Lot of cool Japanese psych music
I will have a look, thank you. Take care, Steve , and Merry Christmas 🎄
Same to you JT and your family
I bought too much damn it
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 You & Cosmic Brian are like two chronic peas in a pod.
"I know what Santa likes, I know what Santa wants / I know what Santa likes, Santa likes, Santa likes cookies"
Steve, I'm guessing you know the song whose lyrics I altered above.
His words: “I didn't think so much of it as a rap because that was too new, and I did not have the cultural background for that."
Butler has an interesting background.
Peace out.
Whether one is religious or not, I think we all would love some peace on Earth.✌🌎
"Swing down Santa's sleigh stop and let me ride"
