I purchased this model not long after I saw this review six years ago. I wore it almost every day in the course of my work as a breathalyzer tech. This watch has been white water rafting, surfing, kayaking and I have never been particularly careful with it. It looks as NEW six years later. I have had NO problems with this watch whatsoever. The quality is unrivalled for it's price in my opinion. Have no fear if you are wanting to buy this watch. You will NOT be disappointed! Thank you for some very solid advice and a truly great review. P.S. I have a 7 1/2 inch wrist and it fits very comfortably.

A really outstanding review!! It was definitely worth being without it for these short few weeks. I have actually suggested to Mr. Steinhart that he look into the 40mm case size. I think it would absolutely sell him a lot more watches. Like you said, the trend is moving back towards the smaller diameter sizes. In my opinion, the smaller size gives a watch a more refined look. Anyway, I'm honored to have you review my watch! It's famous now :-) Thank you!

The problem is not the 42mm case but the bezel that could have been 40mm, then an even bigger problem is the 50mm lug to lug instead of 47 and also the flatness of them. It needs to be 47mm lug to lug. On an Orient Ray I altrough the lugs drop only up to 1mm higher then the case back, higher not lower, because are limited to 47mm they look much more curved and with a normal bracelet those lugs hug the hand very nice.

Watches like this make me question a Rolex or Omega.

+krbcrwlr No way watches like this would make anyone question a Rolex or an Omega.. Just take a look at Omega 8500 coaxial movement in their Seamaster line. Quality of finishes and decoration on this Steinhart isn't bad at all. But 8500 Coaxial is really far far far far better compare to this Steinhart, totally next level.

I just looked up the price 600 euro incl VAT. That's an incredible value for the spec: Saphire glass, titanium, 500m, ceramic bezel with lume, nicely decorated calibre with display back, all in a nice modern design package. Very good!

This watch has been upgraded to 56 hours when fully wound. Formerly it was 42 hours. The change came when the barrel was optimized by Sellita. I bought this watch on March 25, 2023 from Steinhart.
I have several watches with the usual stainless steel and can say the titanium is much lighter on the wrist.

It's always a weird moment when you wear a Steinhart (in my case an Ocean One Vintage Red) for more than a year, then go to an AD to try higher-end brands on and anything you try feels cheaper than your $400 timepiece. What a bad day that was when I tried a Tag Aquaracer that felt like a toy compared to it, the Seamaster that felt good but not enough to justify the $3500 difference, etc...
I think Steinhart delivers in every level. Once they sail away from their Rolex knock-offs they will probably be soon as THE brand. Love them already so keep them coming :-)

Nice Review, all fair comments. I have never owned a Steinhart before but have pulled the trigger on this piece because it is not a homage, it is its own thing. I am blown away by the quality, as you say, and as a recreational diver I have to tell you, it does the job it was designed to do. The criticism from some areas regarding the bracelet are really a 'desk diver ' criticism really. I love it tool appearance. Its very masculine yet subtle and not bling, and most importantly , not a sub copy. Lastly, I absolutely agree with you that at 40mm it would be perfection.

I have this watch and its great , its a homage to the Rolex Sea Dweller Double Red hence the two lines of red lettering on the dial . this watch is very famous and retails on the used market for about £30,000.
It has not been made since the 70's so you would have to be a Rolex nut to buy a vintage watch for that price . So its not really an option for any normal person. SO thanks to Steinhart for giving us a new homage double red for £400.00 . It's great quality perhaps the only draw back is the clasp which is ok but not as good quality as the rest of the bracelet . Mine began to run fast so I sent it back to Steinhart they regulated it and now it runs close to COSG. V good customer service .
    thanks for the video .

That is so so much watch for your money, lovely, really nice design, build quality looks superb too.

      +Geekanoids Hi Dave,
Great question, I always try to use the original spring bars from the watch as they do vary in quality and design. At least this way I know they were intended for that watch and more likely more secure.

I have the Ocean One Premium with this same movement it was running about +10 seconds a day fast. Determined to fix this problem correctly I sent the watch to RGM watches in Lancaster PA where they are having the balance and hairspring adjusted in what they call dynamic poise. This will bring the watch to COSC or better time keeping standards and become a permanent fix. The watchmaker will adjust the balance weights and hairspring together in harmony and test it in both lower and higher amplitudes to match it all up perfect. It might be expensive for some to do $200 BUT I am now getting a lower to mid level watch that will last and keep time just as good as more expensive pieces from Omega or Breitling that are COSC certified for pennies on the dollar. Just like getting an engine blueprinted. Your mileage may vary...Cheers TGV!

It is always interesting seeing mid and high range divers. In my opinion as a scuba diver, dive watches are meant to be breakable! It's really not a matter of if your diver breaks, but when. I guess they have become popular with the public because of how sporty-yet-classy they can be. Anyways, great video!

Hi TGV... Glad to see you're improving. A definite improvement from the last video. Another top notch video of one of my favorite brands. I have the Ocean One Blue with the Soprod A10-2 movement, which is one of my favorites in my collection. The ceramic bezel takes it up a few notches. Another of my favorite models is the Marine Chronometer. However, you will be pleased to know that Steinhart has a Marine 38 that would garner a review. For me, the Marine Chronometer with roman numerals is pure classs. Continue getting well, and I look forward to the next video.

This is on my wishlist. I have a few divers already but I really like the looks on this one. I'm a sucker for the big round indices ala SKX007. I have two Steinharts already, the Marine Chronometer Arabic and the 44mm Nav. B Chrono II. Beautiful dials. Great watches that are quite accurate as is. The only problem I ever had was with the Marine. The click lost some of its plating and I had to send it to Germany. They had it back to me pretty quick though and they paid for all the shipping so no complaints here. If anything that was on ETA.

Even though you dislike the titanium bracelet, I would have liked to see the watch with the bracelet on it and with it on your wrist. I don't care for NATO bands on display backs; one because it hides the display and two because it exaggerates the thickness of the already thicker display watch.

  • @blacktornado1999

Steinhart as always build fantastic quality watches. Love the date at 6. I hate when the date at 3 cuts off the indice or a watch has no marker at 3, leading to an uneven look.

Love the review, but between this watch and the Seiko Shogun, what would be your choice?

If Steinhart can engrave the ceramic bezel on a 500 and infill with lume, then it would be good to see them engrave the bezel markings on the Ocean One ceramic and infill with metal (like Rolex do with platinum on the SubCs). This would give a better finish than whatever wishy washy printing they are using now.

    Hi TGV,
I wasn't a big Steinhart fan. But this piece is definitely worth a second look! I'm impressed by the lume. And these little blue details looking gorgeous. The only downside is in fact the size. 42 mm are the biggest size I could wear. But I would prefer 40 mm.
Thanks for this entertaining and informative video.
    Best regards,
    Claus

  • @Gooseman2k2
    @Gooseman2k2 6 років тому +1

I just bought one! I have 7.75 inch wrists... so the 42mm is actually on the smaller side for me! But it looks fantastic! one thing is that the buckle part is a slightly different color and finish than the bracelet... and the bracelet is slightly different color than the case! The buckle also scratches VERY easy! I purchased a titanium brushing refinishing pad... and am going to try to give the buckle the same finish as the bracelet.

Fell in love with this the moment I saw it in their store, was literally on the fence of ordering one, then it hit me... My small-ish 16cm wrist, although flat, would never accomodate that 50mm lug-to-lug. I sure do hope they'll make a 39mm version in the future. It'll sell like hotcakes

Enjoyed your review, first class, as always! I have this watch in my collection. Retail is 590 EUR, $670 US. The power reserve is 40 hours. My wrist is 7.25" , so the 42mm is perfect for me. I think the bezel on this watch is better than the one on my Rolex Submariner, at this price, that's exceptional.

Great review as always TVG! There will be a new face lift for the Ocean two premium white in April. It would be fantastic if you could review that one as well! That is my next watch target! I think the Ocean two white is so versatile as you could get away with wearing a suit with the watch on a leather strap! The Golden Eye (can't wait for the full review!) is my target after that and then the Longines LLD!

great to see your vids are getting more professional, congrats! A quick question: I noticed a colour difference in the outer ring of the bezel in other vids and pics (almost Stainless steel like) and the rest of the watch. Was it noticable to you? Maybe Steinhart changed it, because the inside of the clasp was pure Stainless steel on their first models of the 500 Premium as well. Thanks TGV, and keep up the good work. Pure class!

I was hoping to see if you did a video of the ocean one vintage. It looks somewhat like a BlancPain it has the red triangle at the 12 o’clock position on the bezel If you have them, let me know cause I’d love to see your take on that timepiece. I now have five Steinhart, including the one in this video. 👊👊👊👊

Hey TGV, no doubt about it you are a classy guy. Like in a 40's movie star kind of way. Your passion for your subject matter is infectious. Thanks to you I'm enjoying my first watch on its own lovely nato band. I was wondering if you could lend your expertise in all things classy to a video on opera and some selections/vocalists you particularly enjoy?

Nice balanced review TGV 👍👍 The display case back showcasing the decorated movement is superb but now having doubts if it's truly 500m.as they say. Almost too good to be true. Like the lumed ceramic bezel for sure and I think Squale should go to that route as well. Props to them for the more unique design but it kind of lack a "soul". As is majority of their other watches regardless if homage or not. Hard to explain why.
