  • You can eliminate the button front feature from a dress sewing pattern you already love and know fits you to have a simple front, both for the bodice and the skirt. I am showing how to find the reference on your pattern to make this change with the example of two different dress patterns: The Lyric (Love Notions) and the Holyoke (Cashmerette).
    Both are tried and tested for both my mother and I and due to the chosen print of the fabric, the button front feature was not required.

      I’m glad you enjoy the little changes, this is the essence of who I am as a seamstress. Sadly, these types of videos are the ones that few people view for some reason 😢, it’s predictable and makes me question many things.

      @@LiftingPinsandNeedles This is very sad! I don't know if I know anything, but I see tutorials from young people, some are trained & have a lot of knowledge, but they still make things without turning up the hem or doing proper finishing all around. I think some of these sewers or their viewers don't care as much about quality & longevity. It seems they want things as quick as possible, they want it for right now and will throw it away later. I watch several " yt families" with a variety of subjects- Homesteading, growing fruits & vegetables, DIY around the home and many others. All of them that have been with "yt" a long time have said something has changed with how they are doing things & it is hurting very good people! I do not understand but I sincerely hope this changes. God Bless.

    Such a helpful video! I have a vogue pattern with buttons all down the front and I have removed the button placket. I just need to make it up but its a summer dress so will have to wait until next year. I've done that with the sleeve lining before it works so well. Thank you for sharing :-)

      Thank you so much. Some prints and fabrics just don’t benefit from the button. This one would’ve looked terrible. I love the button fronts too but enjoy being adaptable 😀.

    Thanks for the great video! I have a top pattern with buttons down the back…I want to change it to a keyhole type opening in the back. Should I follow the same steps as this video?

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  3 роки тому

      Yes. Find the button hole placement, fold it away and that’s the Center back. You can add a seam to have the slit on the top or cut on top and make a little facing for the keyhole opening.

      The fabric is cotton sateen with a tad of elastane. It’s a woven. The lining is satin charmeuse with a tad of elastane too. Thank you so much for watching.
