    Fun and happiness are the opposite of illness…thanks mate for sharing your experiences on the river. We just moved to Gilbert to be close to Banner Anderson cancer center and the river is so important for healing. Also, I’ve been a fisherman all my life!

    Your a realistic fisherman. Thanks for representing the Valley of the Sun. We lose lures sometimes. I fished the lower salt over here off almaschool and 202. No catches but fun for 1st time.

    I have been watching your videos and you’ve helped me do a heck of a lot more CATCHING than I would otherwise. Thank you so much for what you do. Keep killin’ it with the fish and the videos-your knowledge of the local stuff is priceless. Got 6 bass on Saturday, 4 on Sunday, that’s about 10 more than normal!! Lol. I hope to see you out there one day. Thanks again

    The fly fishing world can be a bit snobbish when it comes to gear too, but as you said, fish with what you've got. I did that for years. Sometimes, I throw on that old automatic fly reel and the old fiberglass rod just for the fun of it. Nice video man and keep the videos coming 👏👏

    I fish granite reef a couple times a week. I've found a good pattern. I fish frogs in the open pockets in the weeds. Also use the plopper in the open sections. I typically go out from 6:00 - 9:00 pm. I'll have to try the jerk bait!

      @brent245 That's awesome! The jerkbait kills it at granite reef too! Especially in the deeper sections just outside the weed lines.

    My ultimate setup for hitting the Salt and the Verde is the Alpaca packraft. It weighs 5lbs total and rolls right up and you can put it in your backpack. So I'll park at Phon D for instance, fish there then float down a bit. Then when I've gone as far as I'd like I get back onto the bank, roll up the boat, put it in my pack and just hike back to my car. I like to use a 2 piece rod or 4 piece fly rod so I can put it in my pack and use the paddles like trekking poles. This also keeps you from hitting branches with a long pole or paddles sticking out of the pack when you hike back. Been doing this for a decade. It's a whole different side to fishing in AZ vs the bass boat or lake scene. When I was 20 I fished the verde 6 months in a row every day. Over 200 days at the verde that year. Best year of my life lol

    I believe I might be wrong but I believe the trout live year round in the salt river because it is actually a cold water river.

      I used to fish PIR a few times a week with my kayak for years. I stopped going after I got shot at by a bunch of gang bangers. So many reckless idiots at PIR shooting all over the place in general. The cops could care less what goes on down there. I've found dead pitbulls that were fought, people shooting machine guns from moving vehicles, I even saw a small alligator in PIR too. Months after I saw it there was a story on the news of a guy they busted with exotic animals (tigers, sharks, gators) that lived on 107th ave and Southern, I'm positive that's where it came from. Too bad because there is some great fishing in there especially on the kayak

    Whenever I drive anywhere to fish it's usually to the lower salt river.
    The one question I've never gotten a clear answer from our Arizona Game and fish department is, "Are the fish I catch out of the Lower Salt River safe to eat?"
    I know the stocker-trout are safe to eat cause their farm raised. The native fish in many of our Arizona fisheries have become so contaminated with mercury that it's no longer safe to eat them. I don't know if any fish other than the stocker-trout are safe to eat.
    For me, that really sucks because it's about a fifty mile round trip from my home to the Lower Salt River. I've fished the Salt River since I was a kid. Back then eating what we caught was no problem. Not any more though. No one has given me a clear answer to whether it's safe to eat the fish I catch out of the Salt River in general and the Lower Salt River in particular.
    If I'm stuck with catch and release fishing, I'll just ride my bike three miles down the road and fish out of the canals. The game fish living in the canals come straight from the Lower Salt river via the Granite Reef Dam so, I can save on the price of gas and catch or get skunked fishing for the very same fish.

    Are the weeds better upriver from blue point? I haven't been able to fish very effectively lately because there are so many weeds that my line gets caught almost instantly on every cast, I generally fish from blue point down.

    • @GOALFishing
      @GOALFishing  3 роки тому +1

      @Jake Macri this time of year there is just a lot of grass, you have to find pockets that are deeper that allow you to work baits outside of the grass or you have to switch to something like a weedless fluke or Castaic jerky J. Also weedless swimbaits work pretty well too. The grass can definitely be a pain!

    • @brent245

      I use a prop frog right in the weeds. Target the open pools. I move fast from spot to spot. I only cast in a pocket twice then move on.

    I just to moved to Oro Valley AZ from southern Missouri...I didn't realize how bad AZ fishing is. The Salt River is about as good as it gets without driving a full day. Fortunately for me, in the short time Ive been here Ive been able to hit a lot of the lakes and rivers, but man, it is just so limited and the rules here are absolutely bonkers compared to the midwest. If you keep reeling them in at the Salt River then milk it for all it is man!

    • @samfisherskiller
      @samfisherskiller 3 роки тому

      Rules are fair enough tho they are aggravating. Tucson is trash for any decent fishing as you found out lol. Turns into a fucking logistical nightmare for a fishing trip to Roosevelt lake with a pontoon boat, kids, wife.

    • @haydencook682
      @haydencook682 3 роки тому

      @@samfisherskiller The rules here arent as bad as some coastal states, but I wouldn't call them fair. In a lot of Midwestern states the rules are simply common sense. Like don't keep endangered fish, don't use dynamite, don't dump a can of corn and net trout...just stuff like that
