GX9 MK2 with real-time LUTs, PDAF and maybe live composite would be ideal.
I love the 14-140 on the gx9 you can do anything with it
I went into the small factor Lumix cameras via the GX-80 as they are still available new. I loved it for my recent travel, especially paired with the surprisingly good 12-32 kit lens and the equally astonishing 35-100 f4-5.6. The only things I didn't like were the lack of a dedicated focus mode switch and that I kept missing the back focus button because it was a bit indistinguishable to find by feel alone. Both those shortcomings are fixed by the GX9 so I snatched up a used one. If anyone is thinking about getting one I can only recommend to pounce soon, they seem to become rarer on the used market. This is certainly due to the renaissance these rangefinder bodies are currently going through as Grant has pointed out correctly.
I switched from the GX80 to the GX9 at begin of the year and I‘m absolut happy with the GX9. Mostly I use the 20mm f1.7 and the 14mm f2.5. I used also the 14-42PZ and the 14-140 at travelling, I like the small lenses like the 14-42PZ and the 35-100 f4-5.6 much more as the 14-140, that came with my GX9.
Fantastic :)
I love the GX9! I bought the Laowa 17mm, with the disabled screen with only the viewfinder on, feels like a film camera! I only use B&W.
Great content!
I was lucky to find a GX 9 recently on EBAY in nearly new condition and love it! Looking forward to testing it out Down Under soon.
I currently use an Olympus OM-D E-M5 mark II. If Panasonic would revamp the GX9 with the new hybrid autofocus, release it sealed and with a screen you can see yourself through (I think for vloggers it would be ideal), it would probably be my next camera.
Love my GX9 paired with my Laowa 7.5 F2 and 7Artisans 4mm fisheye. Such a fun little camera!
My fave camera.
A GX9 II weather sealed ! perfect for street and travel 😍
a GX9 mark II with updated auto focus system and usb-c is all I am asking for. I really hope Panasonic makes one - just look at all the used GX9 cameras selling above RRP at the moment, there is clearly a demand!
Great video and conversation! I have been using this camera from the past 5 years and I love it. The 35-100, 25 1.7, 8-18 Leica 2.8 and the new 9mm 1.7 are my favorite lens. I am considering the new G9 II although I wish they build a new gx9 II with a body most similar to gx9, that will be great. This combination will look more to the Leica Q3, with 35 pixels less.
I was looking for a smaller MFT body for when I didn't want to drag my G9 along. I have a GX8, but wanted something newer and even smaller. I ended up getting a new GX85 instead of the GX9. I just couldn't justify almost double the price for 20mp sensor over the 16mp of the GX85. I do really enjoy using the GX8, though, so I may end up selling the GX85. On the other hand, I have had a little ZS200 pocket camera (also 20mp) for a year. I only recently looked at some of my pictures on a computer monitor and was quite pleased with the results! The camera addiction continues...
I’ve got a gx85, and the LUMIX 12-32, 25mm f1.7 and the 35-100. Very happy
Great video. I just switched from an APS-C Pentax system to a Lumix GX85 with the Panleica 25 mm f1.4 . The GX9 was nearly $400 more on the used market and as I was trying out M43 for the first time I went with the lower price investment. So far I love the GX85 and will upgrade to the GX9 as soon as I can!
I've used a GX9 since shortly after it became available. I recently broke it (user error). For some uses the G9/G9ii are great bodies, but I find the size and weight of the GX9 much more suitable for travel and street photography, and as a daily go everywhere companion. So I wish Panasonic would release a relatively small, light, rangefinder type body with updated technology. Hope I'm wrong but I'm increasingly pessimistic that will come to fruition. Hadn't really considered FF format cameras but recently started eyeballing the Sony A7c ii. It's the same length as the GX9 and a silly millimeter shorter than the GX9. It is a bit thicker and heavier, but Sony has packed one boatload of tech in a body not much larger than the GX9. And they are making some relatively small/light 2.8 / 2.5 primes. So ... My preference would be to stay in the m43 camp. Not keen on the old Olympus menu system which I believe is still used in the OM5. I also don't like the looks of the OM5 much. Just doesn't seem Panasonic is interested in that market segment anymore.
Because the camera is not available anymore, goodies related to it will soon disapear from the market. Before that I highly recommend the GX9 eyecup by Panasonic (think it is DMW-EC5 eyecup). It offers a real comfort to use the EVF compared to the default eyecup:
#1- comfort for your eye you can use it as fix point to stabilize the camera and it feels really comfortable when pressing on it
#2- the EVF is clear like a black chamber even in bright daylight
Also JJC has a very good grip to have better handling (some 60 gr). I have this too and my GX9 feels like a smaller GX8.
Interesting and educational. I have a Gx9 and a 20mm lumix lens . It's very good . Thanks
I bought this little camera some months ago and I positively surprised by its capabilities. Paired with good lenses like the 20mm 1.7 and the 14-35mm f2.8 I use it as my main travel camera. I hope Panasonic will release an updated version with the same articulated EVF and will not drop the serie. One thing is missing for me is a better way to zone focus… Please Panasonic, add a DOF scale. And maybe a monochrome version? Who knows…
Well , the GX9 with the Lumix 12 - 60 is still my one and only, almost. When I feel it’s too bulky for a particular outing (e.g., city walking) I’ll take my trusty LX7 which, for many years, was my one and only. When looking at LX7 images on my laptop screen the quality is great, as are large printed images.
Just got around to going through my captures from Morocco and am blown away by the SOOC jpegs I got paired with the 15mm f1.7. That and my Fuji X-70 are going nowhere...... suffered with G.A.S in the past but really am happy with my gear at long last 🙌🙏👌
currently using an A7 mk 4 with a 20mm 1.8 G lens but looking for a compact travel camera and this sounds ideal
The GX9 is a solid option for those wanting a compact interchangeable lens option. I purchased mine wanting to try out a Four Thirds option after using Full Frame and APSC for a number of years, and it is definitely one of my favourites for street shooting. The range of lenses available is quite good, with most of my lenses being Olympus.
Yeah man :)
i'll be purchasing one today thanks for the review! I'll just be a casual street photographer with nature photography as my side hustle i think it will do the job :D
Fantastic :)
I am very waiting Panasonic GX9 with PDAF, weather sealing and mikrofon input. It would be bomb!!!

Ive never fallen in love with a camera more than I have with the GX9- not even with the x100v. I have an irrational desire to buy 10 of it, fearing I will run out of so much camera goodness.
Hello Grant. I don't ask for much, just a GX9 II with the same features as the new G9 II. Speaking of the G9, the L Monochrome D is fantastic, but just thinking about the new Monochrome Leica... 🤤🤤🤤
Yeah - maybe they will do it 😂 … Yes I’d like a Leica Monochrome too :)
Great vid!
Thanks
I'm sticking with my GX7 (still good) & GX8 for rangefinder form. But if I didn't have those I'd get a GX9.
Thanks. toronto canada.
I love my GX9 too. Hopefully Panasonic will update it with more modern tech. I'd like better video specs.
Have they added Ibis in video in firmware? That's probably my only hold up.
Unsure ... :)
Awesome video
Thanks Man...
I miss the M4/3 format, body and lens sizes. I soo wish that Panasonic would release a new M4/3 sensor and camera with better ISO performance.
That's a real pity. I wasn't aware that the GX9 was discontinued. I remember that 43rumors mentioned it but it was a few years ago. So I thought it might not be true. Probably they sold all their stock by now. I am happy I bought it two years ago. I really hope for a successor, but I am not expecting one tbh. As OM-System and Panasonic seem to focus their resources on the higher end. As they expect that lower end models are replaced by smartphones.
it was about the chip shortage. they focused what limited resources they had into their flagship models.
I loved my GX9 until i got my A7C. they were pretty much on par with size and weight. but the a7c being full frame i got rid of my gx9. though when i do get the funds, I'll be going back and getting a GX8. I do miss the m43 lens sizes
rumors are g9 II end of the year. what i really want is a gx9 II with phase detect AF. i would cry. and yeah, missing out. i'm building out my lens collection for m43 like crazy. most recently the oly 75mm f1.7 on my gx9 :) so good.
@whereismylife a GX9II would be awesome
Phase detect with the GH6 sensor.
I'd definitely pick one up!
I don’t know if I should invest in a camera with APSC sensor or the gx9 with the four thirds isn’t that different
Yes APSC is larger than Micro Four Thirds :)
What are your thoughts about the Lumix G Vario14-140mm for the GX9? I had the 35-100mm and exchanged it for the 14-140mm. I couldn't be happier with it - versatility, quality of lens and images, and far less of a chance to miss images because I have to change the lens. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I use the GX9 and 14-140 combo for hiking. It's light weight and gives great images at great range of focal lengths. And as you say, no need to swap put lenses (or carry extra lenses).
I’ve never used it - But yeah, people love it :)
@@grantrobertdavies Try it. You're worth it. 😄
I love MFT...hence my GH5 and all 5 of my lenses....but it's a dying Form factor......lenses and cameras are overpriced compared to APSC and FF. I recently upgraded to Fujifilm....and WOW....the quality of the photos are VASTLY superior to anything MFT and I can honestly say that being an avid MFT user........I really wish all MFT would've somehow Pioneered a way for the tiny MFT to collect more light and also increase MEGAPIXELS.......but Sadly it's pretty been the same forever. No MFT will know the Level of increase quality of a FUJIFILM APSC system unless they experience it for themselves.
Ever wonder why does the LX100 mk ii couldn't get similar output? Browsed through many sample outputs in flickr but it's nowhere like GX9 although they essentially share the same sensor, just different crop factor due to multi aspect ratio thing.
Between my LX7 and GX9 I had the LX100. It produced great images but it succumbed to dust and minor mechanical problems.
@@leslieklein8757 I see. Was the LX100 output a bit "flat"? Somehow the outputs do not look "pop" as GX9 to me.
@@davidletterboyz I was very satisfied with the quality of the images. I had the camera set on Vivid ( as Greg mentioned) and tweaked other settings, especially contrast and saturation. Perhaps I had made other adjustments, but I can’t remember. Also, the sensor size is the same as the GX9, but the effective sensor size is reduced to accommodate the various frame sizes.
@@leslieklein8757 You had an LX100 and not LX100 mk II right?
@@davidletterboyz Yes, the original LX100. I didn’t buy the mk II because of my concern about dust accumulating on the sensor. BTW, I had three Lumix zooms ( FZ20, ZS8, LX7) none of which had dust problems.
If anyone's looking for a used GX9 or knows someone who is, I have one. I'm based in Melbourne, and will advertise it on FB Marketplace next week. Thought I'd see if anyone here would be interest first. Apologies if this post is considered distasteful in any way being posted here.
All good
I couldn’t find one so I bought a g100 😢
The G100 is great too :)
@@grantrobertdavies I’m still trying to figure it out.
Love my G100
@@robinarnold7035 Yeah I wouldn't mind one myself
