I didn't know there was a physical version until I came across your video and read the description. Its a good thing I did because I was about to get the digital version on PS4 or Steam but I prefer physical.
Interesting trivia about the middle game in the trilogy: The Japanese equivalent of "and" is "to", so the Japanese title is "Atelier Escha to Logy." Eschatology is the study of the end times. "Escha" and "Logy" are even pronounced the same way as in the word. I'm currently playing Escha and Logy - I finished off the other two games on the PS3 but never got around to finishing the middle game in the trilogy.
@@SwitchWatch yes, I agree, I hope the developers take this like opportunity to share extras for old games, and be creative with their next games, and listen the gamers community
Jose Baldemar Castilla Velez I’m one of them! I played Ryza for 75 hours and purchased Lulua. Then, I realized that was part 4 of the Arland trilogy so I purchased it. Playing Rorona right now. After that, Dusk went on sale so I bought that and the Mysterious trilogy! Ryza was the best gift my wife gave me and I will be playing Atelier for this entire year!
@@SoloBoardGamingKnight lol it happens, and I'm sure that a lot of people start to enjoy Ateliers franchise, on my perspective Atelier Ryza is close to farm games more than open word rpgs, is a big combination of ideas in the right portion with a very amazing characters
Hmm..I know Atelier series since Atelier Iris 1 on PS2. I’m really sorry for newcomers who start on Ryza. It feels like you jumped to FFXV without playing FF6 or 7. Damn, I’m old :(
Yes the dusk series is a good start. The Arland series came before it but i liked the dusk series more simply because they were newer. After the Dusk series is the Mysterious Series starting with Atelier Sophie. you could try them in order and watch graphics improve till you get to Ryza.
Never played an Atelier game but after some great fan reviews i just ordered both Reza games and followed your link to physical release for the Dusk Trilogy thank you can't wait to enjoy them.
Hope you enjoy them as Atelier, at least to me, is up there with the likes of the Tails series. My first love was Final Fantasy as that was the very first JRPG that I enjoyed playing. After that, I picked up Dragon Warrior, which I already had but didn't really know how to play, and beat it. However, lately it's Dragon Quest, Tails / Atelier and then the Trails series as I haven't really enjoyed a Final Fantasy game since XIII. I need to pick up Trails of Cold Steel IV and Tails of Arise.
I can’t wait to finally play a game in this series. This trilogy looks absolutely amazing and I’m thinking that this set will be my intro into the series! 🖤
Swizze here. PlayAsia finally shipped my pre-order today! Can't wait to get my hands on this juicy physical copy. Then I'll have the whole Atelier (switch) collection. Can't get enough of these games. Great review as always mate.
@@SwitchWatch patience right? xD my copy of Gundam should rock up next week hopefully. That and my other new physical copies I grabbed this week will surely tide me over till then.
I picked up Atelier Escha & Logy for the PS3 for cheap and I fell in love with the game: I couldn't stop playing it! I finished it in a few days. What I love especially, were the graphic style, the option of a male (emo JRPG) protagonist and the satisfying combat! I was surprised by some mistranslation issues in this PS3 version, so I hope there will be fixes in my imported Switch Dusk Trilogy. Looking forward to playing the other 2 games of the trilogy!
Great review. I really love the atelier games and the dusk trilogy games all look great and i like the art style of these games too. I'm thinking about buying atelier shallie first for the nintendo switch.
Thanks for the review! Pre-ordered my Asian physical release as soon as it became available, as it's supposed to be limited to 5000 copies worldwide and I didn't want to miss it. Always wanted to try an Atelier game, and though I plan on picking up Ryza at some point, I figured this would be a good jumping off point. Now just need to get my Switch back from the repair shop... 😞
@@SwitchWatch Play Asia listed it in all their marketing emails for the game. Limited to 5000 copies worldwide and Playasia is getting over 4000 of those copies. For some reason I don't see it listed on their site, but as I said they have mentioned it in multiple emails. Let me know and I can forward one of them to you if you'd like.
Let me just say that these games(specifically the dusk trilogy) have the best BGM option I've ever seen in a jrpg. Not only can you use soundtracks from past titles but you can have them play at any time. For example you can have the main menu theme of a past title play during battle.
@@SwitchWatch I just aslo realized that not only they added the soundtracks from the titles that came after the dusk trilogy but they also added the soundtracks from the Japanese exclusive titles as well. I'm gonna proclaim that every jrpg franchise should have this option.
@@SwitchWatch I know their DLC costs are expensive so around 80$ hmm maybe they will cut the price cause that's still steep for 3 really old games even if it does include the DLC, Cold steel series so far is better games I'd rather play them thanks for reply
I want to pick this up and play it but there is so much on my backlog and im guessing to finish this triology will be atleast 100 plus hours right ? ( whats some ones estimation on that )So many games not enough time :(.
@@SwitchWatch Three half a decade old massive games. In an era where new games could get 10 percent off upon release, people would boycott any remaster that priced over 20.
I love that trilogy, and Escha (pronounced "Ess-kah", btw) and Logy is my favorite of them (and the one with the best soundtrack, which I imported). I don't think I'll pick them up on the Switch, but it's more a question of having a big backlog already and having already beaten those games (including both the Escha and the Logy routes) rather than due to lack of interest.
I really wish Koei wasn't so greedy with pricing. These games aren't true remasters and more ports of original PS3. Theres no reason for them to be near $40 each. Should be at max $20 or $50 bundled.
@@SwitchWatch mmmmk I'm still not sure if its worth playing especially since there are other Atelier games that haven't been ported to ps4 for all we know they could do a whole pack for ps5 in the future
I'm kinda dissapointed. These are old games and they still have serious frame rate drops, even on the switch. I was gonna buy the trilogy on play asia, but now I'm ok with getting them digitally on sale.
Great job and what looks like a beautiful game. Anime games such as this for me tend to be hit or miss though. Gundam big hit, anime girls with weird fetish and dad issues, miss.
@@SwitchWatch Maybe the 3rd one No interest in the first one, own the base ps3 version of the 2nd one, and I don't anything about the 3rd one. I like the 2nd one.
In my opinion as longtime Atelier fans since Iris, I would say Arland Quadrilogy is the best series (Rorona is forever my ultimate Atelier waifu) followed by Dusk all the way through Mysterious series as the weakest.
I have all of these on the ps3 will not be purchasing this version 🤨 I truly wish they would get rid of the time management of these games I fell rushed and I can’t enjoy the game 😒 the graphics are awesome but that timer 👎

How is the story compared to Trails and Tales series?
This ain't it chief, is how the story stacks up compared to those. But that's more because Atelier isn't story driven, its character driven.
It's there if you are into these games which is good but I'm passing due to other games
