  • In this video, I show the basic workflow I've developed for creating a stylized character head in Cinema4D and Octane. Using a Volume Builder / Mesher, I'll show you how to easily create your own. In the comments, I would love to see the ones that you make!

    Awesome tutorial, very helpfull, but i have a question, how do i render it if i don't have Octane?

    • @benfryc
      @benfryc  2 роки тому

      You can use the standard or physical renderer, but they are quite a bit more difficult to use. Redshift is another option but you’ll need to make materials that work there. Another option is to export the geometry and use Blender which has a great path tracing render engine in Cycles.

    Had an issue with this in the end as I figured the surface was not as smooth as expected (mouth and ear), mainly due to the poly surface arrangement, curious whether you found a solution for this?

    • @benfryc
      @benfryc  2 роки тому +1

      Without seeing the issue, I can take a guess! Each of the objects you put into the volume builder can be placed into a Subdivision Surface. This will smooth out the polygons and result in a more desirable final look.

      @@benfryc Not the best for lower use of polygons, i have to do the same, and it seems its not a perfect solution

    • @benfryc
      @benfryc  2 роки тому +1

      @@sebastianviqueira6783 Totally get that. There can be some performance issues as you add more objects with high polycount to the volume builder. For things like spheres and such, changing the number of segments in the original object before making it editable can help get a smoother result. But once you have your basic shape, I've found it best to convert the volume builder object to a regular mesh, then using the QuadRemesher plugin reduce the number of overall polygons. Then you can continue adjusting using the sculpting tools in C4D.

    Hello! I'm a to the whole animating thing, and I'm watching your vid. I have the newest version of C4D.
    From the part 9:28 to 9:36, It won't leave a gap or the mouth. I've clicked it a few times, and it either disappears or takes away the whole head. What do I do to fix it?

    • @benfryc
      @benfryc  Рік тому

      Without seeing your scene file, it could be that the capsule shape for the mouth is too big. This would cause it to do what you are saying.

  • @WhoIsJohnblack
    @WhoIsJohnblack 2 роки тому +1

    Your fantastic good sir. Quick question, how would I, I guess create different mouth positions to animate him speaking?

    • @benfryc
      @benfryc  2 роки тому +1

      With the object in the volume builder the serves as the mouth cut-out, you could keyframe the FFD using pose-morphs. I could spend a whole video talking about those! EJ's video here would be a great place to get started - ua-cam.com/video/YNBrjSfXWUs/v-deo.html

    hi when I cloner - radial my teeth, my teeth are not arrayed in a way like yours. Each tooth is arrayed in different angel with its edge pointing towards the centre. your teeth are 'radial-arrayed' side by side

    • @benfryc
      @benfryc  2 роки тому

      You can put the cloned tooth in a null and then rotate the tooth object inside that null until it's positioned the correct way.

    When I put the ear into the symmetry object it doesn't come up perfectly on the other side of the head. It duplicated the ear RIGHT NEXT to the ear and when I move it it's way too far apart from the head. How do I fix that?

    • @benfryc
      @benfryc  2 роки тому

      Could be a couple things! The symmetry object should be at the same center point / null location as the main head. Then you need to make sure that its mirroring the object across the right axis. There are some options on the symmetry object were you can change where the object is mirrored. Give those a try and you should be right as rain!

    • @KeysToTheCastleMusic
      @KeysToTheCastleMusic 2 роки тому

      @@benfryc I'm a complete noob at this. I have no idea how to fix it, AND on top of that I somehow deleted the layer manager to where I can't even see "Basic", "Coordinates", "Tag" anymore for any object and I can't get it back. Shoot me!
