I'm imagining a neutral website in the Star Wars universe where both Jedi and Sith look at lightsabers and rate them if they're hot or not.
🤦

Jedi & Sith: BOO
I imagine one where they compare the ones they made and talk smack. Kinda like those facebook groups where people compare their customized cars and stuff.
Mine’s a 10 and Yoda’s is definitely a 10 because of how cute it is
@@OldBenKenobi2318 yours is a ten simply because you're the one who's holding it. By the way, how's the netherworld of the force treating you? Is being dead as nice as it sounds?
I find Sidious’ lightsabers to be a perfect reflection of the man. Opulent, gaudy, and self-important.
It’s like a foreman on a construction site, who scoffs at a worker with a $10 hammer, only to show off his $300 hammer that he doesn’t even use.

I think it's difficult to say that the Jedi hated his lightsaber because how could they have ever seen it? Vader did most of the dirty work hunting down the remaining Jedi. I doubt during their duel, Yoda took a look at the saber and thought, "disrespectful, the fancy lightsaber is".
idk why but that made me laugh 😂
@@builtdifferent244 nice
I think it’s more of IF they had seen it, it would’ve pissed them off.
That fits Yoda's personality though. It might actually be something that he'd do and I just like that head cannon.
My whole thought through the entire video, outside of the few Jedi he killed and then Yoda as far as I knew no one else had seen it to be able to judge it.
I can imagine that's why the one Jedi Master died so quickly in ROTS. He was too busy naming off all the reasons why he hated Palpatine's lightsaber that he forgot to block and just got stabbed.
That was such an easy thrust too...that bothers me to this day.

Yes after all the Jedi were purged their force ghosts witnessed the lightsabers Sidious killed them with and got butt hurt in the after life.
Sidious' lightsaber is also a call back to his home. The aesthetics of it are distinctly of the artsy world of Naboo he hails from. In fact, I could not see any Naboo Jedi wield anything less than a work of art.
I agree, but I would see it being more a work of art in a matter of skill, rather than materials.
@@johnhenley7349 Certainly. However with the shiny finish and the flowing curved lines his saber is very destinctly of the Naboo style. Think of the N-1 starfighter or Padmé's ship for example. Palpatine's view on his saber is also destinctly of the Naboo philosophy. While he is proficient at using it, he sees his weapon mainly as something ceremonial, not actually meant to be used in a war but capable enough to be used in a tight spot. Even if it is often said that Old Man Senate harbours no love for his homeworld, his style choices and the fact that he actually keeps a retreat on Naboo tell a different tale. Even the ISD and the Death Star, while not as artistically pleasing, follow the Naboo idea of style over substance and are meant as a "statement" more than actual weapons of war, as they are objectively bad at that due to their very design.
I can see why he would hate lightsabers, because he shouldn’t need something to control what he thought was already his, the galaxy.
i love naboo style. so sophisticated and advanced.
Yes, the whole Naboo aesthetic was very Art Deco on mushrooms and steroids

Little known fact;
The first 3 jedi that ever saw it considered it so gaudy that they just stood there and let Palpatine kill them, because they thought it was a better fate than having to look at his lightsaber for even a second longer.
Jedi: "It's too garish!"
Sidious: "It's just an accessory!"
Vader: "It sucks."
Sidisous: (Laughing) Indeed. And that’s the point. But the power of the Dark Side at my disposal.
Darth vader: “It’s a two pack of ass.”
Majority of the Jedi: "I didn't even know you were a Sith until recently have haven't seen nor heard anything about your lightsaber ... But I hate it!"
Some of the few Jedi who saw it: "I've just seen it and died minutes, even seconds after without any chance of seeing the hilt ... But let the record that isn't being kept say that I hate it!"
lol thinking the same thing.
Mace Windu: "My last words are 'Palpatine's lightsabers suck!'"
Yoda finally REVEALS what he thought of Luke Skywalker’s blue milk in A New Hope.
Kit Fisto's review:
"Totally gaudy design, way too expensive to make, and only suited for like one fighting style that's banned. It did kill me tho, so gotta give it like a 3/10, it could be worse."
my thoughts exactly
It makes sense that someone who really only learned saber combat in order to embarrass the Jedi with it would have a lightsaber that also was intended as a sort of insult.
Palpatine was really willing to go to some nearly cartoonish levels of effort to do something that could've been accomplished by two words, and a finger.
Lol
kinda why people still love palpatine. He really did make a rather good and powerful enemy who was never TRUELY defeated.

eh I hate sidious, he sucks, Vader number 1 always 😎
Palpatine be on that sigma dark side grindset
A massive flex that he hid away in a statue for decades and only one Jedi ever actually saw and lived to tell the tale.
I always assumed that sidious' ability to cloud the force was why and how he took those jedi masters so quickly. I think in essence he attacked their ability to detect threats and react to them, and was able to pick out and use the openings left in the jedi masters dulled senses.
indeed, and he did this by abusing the location of the Jedi Temple at that; the Temple was built atop many relics and artifacts of the sith that themselves ooze darkside energy. This means there's an ambient dark aura permeating around the Jedi Temple at all times that must be taken into account by the Jedi. By clouding their senses and using this, he was able to play them like a fiddle

Honestly Sideous' lightsaber was crafted perfectly for someone who is adept in stealth combat.
The metals used are highly cunductive, or nearly indestructible. Not only that but its lightweight and easier to weild than the standard jedi sabre. Its core components are heat resistant and sustain output better, thus making a more stable and highly focused blade. Its design is more reminiscent of a rapier or estoc designed for piercing and parrying, both lightweight and swift. (Think needle from GOT)
Not only is it expensive, gaudy, and a disrespect to the minimalist view of the jedi. But its functionality is better suited for an assassin, and more durable and efficient. Thats what makes unnerving to the Jedi and Darth Vader.
(Edit: Sideous is known for his self serving nature and betraying everyone if it serves his interest... thus a small lightweight, one handed lightsaber is indicative of his backstabbing nature... paired with its gaudy design to reflect his self importance.... a jeweled blade to stab folk in the back.
Rapiers and Estocs typically had crossguards so I'm struggling to follow your analogy.
Also, since I'm being an "Umm, actually" guy (Apologies) lightsabers would be awful for stealth combat; They glow and hum. Though, the sleek design does lend itself to an easy draw from a concealed pocket so it would be ideal for surprise attacks. Like, one surprise. After that the "WHOOOM WHOOOM" and bright light would alert everyone in the room (and maybe the next room).
Actually, I've always wanted to see a Sith assassin character that used a normal blade (maybe a vibroblade if they don't also make noise or perhaps one made of beskar?)
They'd likely still have a glowy boi but they'd save that for head to head fights and retreating blaster deflection.
@@razenburn thats actually a good point. I was more referencing based on the blade type rather than the guard. In the films his lightsaber is small and the blade look almost thinner than the standard blade. Almost like a piercing weapon rather than a swinging type blade. The common battle style of the jedi is more like kenpo or swinging blade type stances.
The internal components refine the beam, so its more focused. And his fighting style was very indicative to swashbuckling and fencing during his battle with yoda. Which procted my theory as to a steath type lightsaber.... he need only stab once in the back, and by Sidious' nature was most probable to how he prefers to kill.
Also most seasoned lightsabre fighters try to battle with their blade sheathed as much as possible... so stealth is possible especially to a seasoned practitioner of the force.
(Edit: i love that idea of an assassin type. I had expected Ventress to have been one when they introduced her, but then it was just two regular sabers... i feel it was a lost opportunity to make a really great character)
yup.. a great character evn if hes evil.
Looks like something I would design. Why would I want to hold onto some huge round thing that does not fit my hand. The tool should fit the user not some pre-ordained style guide. The tool should be made from materials that do the best job and clearly he used the best materials for the job. If you live and die by the sword only a fool would buy or build the cheapest least durable least effective sword. The Jedi already own nothing and do not get paid so it is stupid to build their only weapon from cheap inferior materials or in a once size fits all format. If anyone is being stupid it would be the Jedi!
Well said, sidious also carried his lightsaber concealed in his sleeve. And could Quickdraw it to surprise his enemies. Everything he does centres around being unpredictable.
Gosh, I LOVE Sideous. In the sense that one loves to gargle broken glass.
Everyone is right.
1. The Saber is a reflection of the user and therefore will appear and function slightly from user to user. HIS sabers were a perfect statement of what he stood for, and his inner workings.
2. He was an exceptional duelist. Arguably one of the best on rare occasions that he committed himself. Those sabers functioned for him individually better than any other ever could.
3. Vader was right too. He saw through all the multiple layers of facade that they represented and realized that they were; an absolute affront to the false superiority that he intended to impose on EVERYTHING including life itself.

So his lightsaber was basically a fashionable and overly expensive scepter that doubled as a weapon. Nice.
a fashionable and overly expensive sceptre that he hid in a statue for decades and only like three other people ever saw and lived to tell the tale.
I would definately say that Darth Sidious combined and seemlessly utilzed these specific Lightsaber Forms:
Form IV (Ataru) - Way of the Hawk-Bat - for its aggression, constant pressure and fast-pace
Form V (Shien/Djem So) for its defensive capabilities, parries, strong counterattacks and ripostes
VI (Niman) for its combination of duel weilding combat and other Force abilities
VII (Juyo/Vaapad) - The Ferocity Form - for its highly aggressive offense best utilized in close-quarters combat
only in swotor you cannot switch not even with a button in real time. you at most only get 2 forms to use as a combo. So 3 forms mastered like that as a combo woulda make him nearly a demi-god.. Witch he was not.. yet. He woulda had to feed on thousands of souls but the fact was he was just middle management.
maybe a slight bit of makashi too
I didn’t know most of this, but I could tell Palpatine’s saber was more decorative than Jedi sabers. What struck me was how his artistic flourishes would clash with the basic, factory made armaments of his stormtroopers, colorless and utilitarian by design in sharp contrast to his own extravagant weapons.
His points make no sense, first because no jedi would get the slightest chance of seeing the hilt, and how do them being crafted from materials that are expensive because they are almost indestructible and very rare automatically make him be considered that hes above the force itself? It makes no sense.
@@AmaryIIion he’s not above the force itself he just believes that a lightsaber is a jedi weapon and that a sith should be proficient enough with the force to be able to defend themselves. I feel like the lightsaber is more of an inside joke than anything. The only time he would fight with a lightsaber is if he is fighting a jedi with a lightsaber or someone with a lightsaber so it’s kind of ironic and funny to him to kill a jedi with their own weapon that’s decked out in expensive metal almost like an ornamental piece instead of a deadly weapon.
@@coolingod752 no jedi would know that nor really care that he thinks something that is false as true. Even if the jedi created the lightsaber first the sith still adopted it for thousands of years therefore making it their weapon of choice as well. And as I said no jedi would have ever saw his hilt so it's impossible for it to be hated. His points still make little to no sense. It's just a clickbait title like he's been doing for years.
@@coolingod752 pretty sure the guy in the video said something about palpatine thinking he's above the force itself because his weapon is made out of materials that are near indestructible so they'd obviously be expensive and that the jedi believe they are servants of the force so since palpatine hat this expensive hilt instead of a basic one like the jedi they hated his saber. Which sounds really stupid for reasons I've already stated. If I'm remembering incorrectly please say so and put a time to what actually was said.
what do you expect from a Sith Lord with an ego size of the Galaxy, So why not, having an lightsaber reflective of his ego.
Personally, I love Sidious' lightsaber. For all of its glamour, it was still very much functional and practical. The perfect weapon, because it was perfect for Darth Sidious.
I mean, IS it that practical though? It’s too small to be wielded with both hands, or even a hand and a half grip, so less power is available for heavy strikes/blocks. It’s got no grip-the hilt’s entirely metal, so it’ll slip out of your hand. Dumb design.
@@starwarzchik112 Sidious preferred fighting with one hand, or clasping his hands together around the hilt. Sidious fought with speed and precision, not strength and reach. It was perfect for him. Not perfect for others.

The Jedi don't like Uncle Palpy's lightsaber cuz he cut them down like a adult wading through blind preschoolers. Vader didn't like it because he didn't like anything after, "the High Ground Incident."
So that's my take on Palpatine's dreaded lightsaber.
The scene where he owned the Maul Bros made it clear he'd wipe the floor with anyone when he used 2 lightsabers.
The Dark side of the force when Sidius makes a backup: "This is getting out of hand, now there are two of them!"
I wonder what kind of crystal Sidious used? In Legends we can assume it was a synthetic Sith crystal. But in canon Sith bleed crystals. If they can bleed any crystal, wouldn't they get the best crystal the could first.
But there isn't really a "best" crystal. Different crystals from different places have unique attributes. I can't see Sidious settling with a basic Ilum crystal.
@redqueenpiece
One in each as a secondary focus. Honestly, there's no reason not to suspect that Palpy's sabers had the whole nine yards in functionality. Dual-phase focusing (adjustable blade length, like Darth Vader's), bifurcating cyclical-ignition pulse (can be used underwater without issue, like Kit Fisto's), adjustable blade thickness, etc.
@@VestedUTuber for some reason I can't see him having modulating abilities on his Sabers. I see him setting his blade to an exact length and density for his form of combat. Having modular ability would suggest someone had a superior Lightsaber or technique to him and he'd need to compensate. His vanity wouldn't allow that.
Maul and Vader use lightsabers like they're swiss-army knives. Palpatine's mastery & contempt for the weapon means it only exist as symbol not a tool.
My favorite lightsaber scene is in Splinter of the Mind's Eye. When Luke has to pick a lock and tunes Anakin's lightsaber blade to the size of a needle. I don't think they ever do anything like that ever again.

Having those features doesn't necessarily mean using them. The whole point of Sidious's lightsabers was to piss off the minimalism-obsessed Jedi by going full-on Dubai levels of excess with them.
This explanation satisfyingly sums up what I feel like Sidious' LS should be like. It fits his description perfectly.
It looks so good tho it's one of the cooler lightsabers in my book
Edit: how tf did I get a like in a minute
Sidious’ philosophy on lightsabers and overemphasis in pure force power led him to consistently underestimate Kenobi. This miscalculation led to the downfall of his ultimate plan, to control a fully realized chosen one.
When I see him using his light saber he unleashes it like it were a switch blade. A switch sword 🗡. Easier to conceal than how the site and Jedi begin to use their swords ⚔️ at their opponents. It is either have a slight scabbard exposed or a picket had to be made inside a coat /breast pocket like the sith did. Sidious’s saber is hidden within his wrist/wrists.
I like to imagine that Vader just mutters under his breath randomly, "I hate that saber..." **force chokes admiral**
Honestly, I've always liked Palpatine's lightsabers; that they were basically indestructible, and fancy to boot. My only WTF with them is the cost they should have had, along with when he made them. On the one hand, using his position in government to acquire quantities of phrik might have drawn unwanted attention, but alternatively, being able to acquire enough phrik for several lightsabers, as well as the electrum embellishments, seems tricky for a younger, less established Sidious. It was also strange that he made them as a show piece, and to insult the Jedi...who never saw them. He went many years without actually using one, or actually battling Jedi in combat, so his chances of rubbing salt in the wound were few, for the price. I'd wonder how Darth Plagueius felt about the costly toys, being that he, too had seemingly grown beyond the need to fight foes with simple weapons, but then Palpatine didn't even have to flash one to his mentor, ad he killed the drunk Muun with pure Force attacks, allowing the lightsabers to remain hidden for more years. Granted, Palpatine seemed to view lightsabers as mostly unnecessary, but his own almost felt like more of a holdover from the previous holder of power; Darth Tenebrous was powerful, but he enjoyed dueling, and I like to think his advantage in foresight made him an even better duelist, especially if his crimson lightning could cut people off from the Force. I wonder if the Bith Sith would have liked Sidious' sabers? He made custom ships for only the richest people, so I assume yes.
"Lightsabers are an elegant weapon for a more civilized time; made out of found garbage."
"Well I'm making mine out of precious gemstones and gold-pressed latinum."
What are Palpatine’s favorite to least lightsaber forms in order?
I would imagine juyo is his favorite because of its relationship to the darkside. Soresu is probably his least favorite sue or it’s pacifistic nature but I’m sure he would understand why vader would incorporate elements of it into his style in order to protect his vital breastplate control pad
@@leerogish7223 For me, I’d say for Palpatine:

I love the fan art at 1:11! It's beautiful and reminds me of an acrylic painting despite being a digital drawing.
Mace also had a electrum hilt, just about as done out as sidious, with rubber and were bigger for 2 hand swings, this one i cant see anyone gripping it 2 handed, wich jedis do alot. Idk about it being the most expensive and the best, this is supposed to be held one direction only seeing how the hilt is ergonomic to fit a hand holding it from one way only. if u were to grab this hilt very fast u might would need to rotate it in ur hand because it would be sideways or backwards, thats not really an issue with jedi hilts they seemed to be gripped 360 around the bottom with a rubber like material. thats alot better then gripping raw polished metal. Idk i think Windu's is more attention to detail and is actually a better serving hilt as a swordsman. It might be an insult and made nice, but its also alot less functional and versatile. Dooku also had a hilt to be basiclly only held in one way, but thats because his blade required that. But the main issues why sidious hilt is imo kinda shit is because, you cant grip it to 2 hand parry or swing, ur just reliant on using it 1 handed. In the original shot when sidious faught mace, anakin was originally there just watching, and sidious used his lightsabre, thats why during the fight u can see a big hilt in sidious hand. The original scene had anakin basically watching the entire fight doing nothing until the end, and sidious ends up using anakins blade to fend off windu. It would of probably been alot harder and more awkward to film some of the fighting manuevers with his personalized hilt because like i said, u cant hold it 2 handed its just way to small.
This is very well done
Remember: _It's what you can do with the lightsaber that counts!_
You can make the blade longer but it's how you use it that matters
Jedi: Such opulence is offensive to our vows!
Vader: Tiny old man hands.
What I really wanna know is what happened to Palpy's lightsaber that fell out of the shattered window when he dueled with Mace Windu.
Who happened to be walking below and found it? What's their story?
The answer doesn't appear to be on Wookieepedia.
Dat thang is BALLER YO!!!!
*Fake News* - The Jedi couldn't hate something they didn't know existed. Only Mace Windu and Yoda got a close look at his lightsaber for any extended period of time.
The Jedi hated his blade in the seconds between seeing it and dying. They didn't hate it because it killed them all, or because of who owned it - purely because of its construction.
I find his sabers to be works of art and it is hard to argue with his effective use of them, therefore they are perfect for Palpatine. As someone more suited to use single-handed sword techniques, I would probably like them as well.
Being a short guy with small hands myself, and fond of shiny things, I'd probably love Sidious' lightsabre.
Jedi: It goes against our beliefs!
Vader: It's too small for my hands.
Palpatine: Make it G U C C I. S U P R E M E.
I cannot speak for everyone else, but personally I LOVE Sidious' lightsaber. If I could I'd own one in a heartbeat.
What sources can you draw upon that indicate that the Jedi hated Sidious' lightsaber? This is all conjecture, since no Jedi who faced Sidious ever took the time to take in Palpatine's lightsaber design.
Alas, that’s the entire premise of his channel.
I think majority of his subscribers are just kids who don't care for much. They'll give him the clicks he needs.
All he has to do is put up a controversial video title and pull up a Star Wars image from Google to use as a thumbnail.
I love the way you present the lore! Great videos
As cool as it looks, I won't recommend wielding this type of lightsaber.
It’s my choice of lightsaber that I use in Skyrim with kids being the apprentice
The best light saber design has to be Count Dooku's was my favorite 10 years ago and still my favorite to this day
Man Palpatine's lightsaber is so criticized
Personally I like Sidious's Lightsaber. It is part of my Top 3 lightsabers in Canon. The other 2 are Dooku's Curved Hilt Saber, and the Darksaber. I find that flashy lightsaber really a great piece of art, it's like using an Lamborghini Aventador to commute to work. There is something classy and elegant about it. This is the epitome of what Ben Kenobi said, "an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.”
I love his lightsabers, should maybe just be a tad longer to fit my styles of combat, but construction of them is flawless and opulent and i like it
I remember seeing u post this video years ago
One thing Vader and the jedi argree on lol.
Didn’t sidious hate vaders saber cause resembles anakins saber
I can imagine Robot Chicken Palpatine giving Vader a lightsaber and him questioning why he doesn't like it
Does sidious realize he contradict his own intentions? I mean if a jedi would use the same materials but instead of buying said materials, would go out in the wilds and to the planets to mine and gather them themself? Then the lightsaber hilt would represent humility as in that you would not subject other organisms to the pain of obtaining said materials and will do it yourself so others dont bleed, you would also end up with a creation worthy of praise because you yourself alone made it entirely and again did so because you did not want others to bleed at your behaf, it would be the ultimate scavenger hunt whos journey would prove wones devotion to the light side or dark side, will you seek the materials yourself and help people along the way? Or will you lazily spend milions of credits or have slaves gather it for you? Therefore sidious' lightsabers would either be fully light sided or fully dark sided, thats what i think 😃
interesting thought
I don't think its contradictory. The point of constructing it from expensive materials is to emphasize property of ostentatiousness. Palpatine's line of Sith emphasized secrecy and wealth which would in turn emphasize obtaining it through purchasing or stealing, not through personal humility. It's the modern equivalent of obtaining a Solid Gold AK-47: to show it off to those who understand the ostentatious value.
@@meerak915 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 i know fhat was his goal, my point is, the same lightsabers could be constructed using the way of humility just as much
Meaning that he thaught he constructed a mockery of the jedi wilst it can just ad much be constructed the way a jedi would likely go about collecting thkse materials
Also make that hk47 but made of gold, id much rather have a golden droid who calls everyone meat bags at revan's behest then a booooooring gun, but yes i get the point xD
"Oh I'm afraid the light saber will be quite decorative when your friends arrive"
How many re-done videos of this topic are you going to put out? And then you pull this according to my analytics crap during you're 7th time making this video topic. Maybe show the viewers some respect and don't insult there intellect and time by feigning effort into these mass produced videos while asking for there support which is also just a low effort pitch at this point. man you were a great star wars UA-camr for a long time but then completely started the whole no character and mass produced video scripts that are the same every time with repeating topics being slightly tweaked every couple months. it's horrible man and if that's all we are to you then why should people subscribe when you give them your worst effort. Bessy, Star wars reading club, star wars comics, star wars theory, evannova95, eckharts ladder, Corey's datapad.... all of these channels are worth people's time, but this stuff is just not at this point. I'm out man.
Why the Jedi HATED Palpatine's lightsaber
answer: they didn't. They probably had no clue about what it was made of. It was Palpatine's own private mockery of Jedi ideals.
Why Darth Vader HATED Palpatine's lightsaber
answer: he didn't. It was an annoying to wield temporary lightsaber after he lost his at Mustafar, but he made his own lightsaber shortly after.
Wait. How would the Jedi even have time to know about and hate Palpatine’s lightsaber if he doesn’t reveal it until Revenge of the Sith, and only Yoda, Anakin, and _maybe_ Mace Windu survived to know anything about it?
Well to be fair even if they didn't
His lightsaber is supposed to be against the idea/belief of jedi
It’s very look and how it's made is basically mocking them
We need a palpatine series honestly. I’ve never liked him mostly cause he’s just powerful but we don’t see any of his training or anything. Would be cool to see his early days
Read the book Plageus, it covers most of Palpatine's life from Childhood onward, training included.
It's also one of the BEST SW novels
Jedi: "Your lightsaber is disgusting. And I'm gonna tell every jedi about it"
Sidious: "Execute order 66"
For everyone saying "how could the Jedi hate his lightsaber(s), they didn't see it until the end" I think he means more on the principle of what they're made of rather than actually since they go against the Jedi code
A light saber as fashion statement? That is what Sideous' light saber brings to mind
Great videos as always buddy!
Dude your content is so 🔥🔥🔥🔥
i personally love sidious's lightsaber, i loved how he designed it simply to mock and ridicule the jedi and its my favorite sith saber
Is nobody talking about how the hilts were made out of a metal called “Frick”?
It’s spelled Phrik!
@@abdulazizrex thank you for the correction, I just assumed it was spell frick instead of phrick because I’ve actually never heard of this substance in Star Wars before
"his lightsaber was designed to meet his *needs*"
(Cut to close-up of Palpatine making an orgasm face)
Ah, so that's why it's shaped like that.
You may say it's dual purpose rather than duel purpose...😏🤣
Interesting video. I never even knew what Sideous' lightsaber looked like
Interesting! Maybe a "Fate of the SWTOR Sith Empire" since we never see it collapse (but there's a Dark age suggesting it did and we never hear of it again).
That’s probably one of the most comfortable looking lightsabers I’ve ever seen.
Sidious fight with maul and savage was a true masterpiece...showing his true mastery of the styles.
Another reason why I love palpatine so much. Easily my favorite Star Wars character and greatest villain in cinema history.
