David Gilmour - one of few singers who probably sounds even better live than he does in the studio! What a legend.

"Learning to Fly" is a song by written by David Gilmour, Anthony Moore, Bob Ezrin, and Jon Carin. It was the first single from the band's thirteenth studio album A Momentary Lapse of Reason. The lyrics describe Gilmour's thoughts on flying, for which he has a passion (being a licensed pilot with multiple ratings),[citation needed though it has also been interpreted as a metaphor for beginning something new, experiencing a radical change in life, or, more specifically, Gilmour's feelings about striking out as the new leader of Pink Floyd after the departure of Roger Waters. The track was regularly performed live on the band's two post-Roger Waters tours, with touring guitarist Tim Renwick playing the song's guitar solos (although David Gilmour played the solos on the studio version of the track).

Great floyd show as ever where was the crowd participation hey??!! I'd have paid 5k to b front and centre up on my chair singing along screaming having the time of my life. First twat who shouted sit down I can't see I'd have thrown him out myself or her for that matter!!!!! I'm off to watch Roger rocking the stadium to bits next 2022 in utah. Front row paid a fortune gonna be giving it as much contribution to the show as PINK FLOYD
In Nick Mason's book he mention's that's part of why they hired him. Besides loving his energy they were aware of the fact that they weren't exactly animated showmen on the stage and figured that would help up the energy of the shows.
I suppose some people like that and I don't have a problem with it especially since the Floyd obviously thought it was good for the show. But to me it comes across like the guy is trying to be the show, upstaging Nick. And are we supposed to be impressed by his ability to jump three inches off the stage to hit a cymbal? No thanks. Not my thing. The music itself is good enough not to require such antics.
@@kevinlyons7351 I understand not liking it but I think you're misunderstanding his motive. That was just the guy's energy on-stage whether he's playing with Pink Floyd or not and they brought him in specifically to do that. I don't think he was trying to upstage anybody and they asked him to do that because Pink Floyd thought (incorrectly I think) that some more animated sidemen in the band would make up for the fact that they didn't really offer much of a stage show and mainly just stood or sat in place. Nick mentioned it specifically in his book and made a crack about how looked like bored old men up there or something. I'm not sure why they thought that, they had a solid reputation as a band and were just as well known for their entertaining effects and their big screen. It's why Pink Floyd never really needed a Jagger-esque frontman or anything. But I guess maybe they were a little insecure going out on tour older, without Roger, and against so many nostalgia acts that put on rollicking shows.
@@jasonbrown6113 you're absolutely right. I get the reasoning - and who knows, maybe the record company execs wanted it too because we all know their motivations. I'm just one of those guys who would rather just watch great musicians (the original guys) do their thing.
Interesting discussion on my comment. My $.02 is yes, I love his energy. But that's not the only reason why the guys hired him. He can play his ass off. Being showy for showiness sake isn't why they hired him.

I saw em' live at the L.A. sports arena on the "LEARNING TO FLY" tour. To this day - It was by far, the quietest concert I've ever been to. The crowd that is. They put on great show!
I had the honor to see the Division Bell tour at the CNE Grandstand in Toronto, Ontario from the 17th row center stage in 1994 before it was torn down, before I started to play guitar. I watched David Gilmour, change a broken string in the middle of a song, it was one of my memories and it was undoubtedly the best concert I have ever seen, it was funny how I got the ticket. My boss's friend camped out for 3 days waiting to buy tickets to one of the two shows announced. When he got need the ticket counter both shows were sold out, but as luck would have it they announced a third show, so he was able to buy 4 floor tickets, he came by the shop to show them off to my boss, he walked in and said ha ha look what I got, I got 4 tickets to Pink Floyd and threw them on my bosses desk, my boss laughed picked up two of them and threw $200 dollars on the desk and laughed and said, "No, you only have two tickets to Pink Floyd"
Hola.
My husband, Captain Gabriel James Fernandez, passed away, his brother sent me the lyrics to this song…….he was a pilot since 16 ran old, flew 36 yrs NWA (now Delta)….. he had 6 airplanes, was flying his RV4 when he had a massive hemorrhagic stroke, could not talk to control tower, he brought the plane down safely, taxied to his hanger…….he avoided 100+. 737’s that were parked at Boeings area on Paine Field, he somehow managed to land safely, he died shortly after. This Pink Floyd Song….. learning to fly gives me such comfort, I listen to it often♥️♥️

I have to say Pink Floyd puts out the best live albums around. The visuals are also some of my favorite.

what can you with this song? it takes you and holds to the very end. The band and David Gilmour are doing their best to express their hearts in music and texts.
The drummer has already learned to fly
Hell yeah. The drums on this song are sick. 😊
Yep

@@sandro19691000 😂🤭
I'm dyin on that one 😅
Among other things in this clip, that has to be the best sounding, best looking backing vocals line up ever. Sam Brown, Durga McBroom and Claudia Fontaine, RIP.
A melhor banda da história da música!
Gilmour és gigante!
Obrigado por décadas de genialidade!
Going to see Australian Pink Floyd in vegas next month they are so good must see
I saw em' live at the L.A. sports arena on the "LEARNING TO FLY" tour. To this day - It was by far, the quietest concert I've ever been to. The crowd that is. They put on great show!
Pink Floyd the best group never seen before ! Thank U !
yes very hard to find footage of floyd playing in concert when they were young...
@@garrygballard8914 ya tell me something i don't know.......
Yeeeh, the best group of all time forever and ever.
Even better in live ❤️ David Gilmour is a legend and big up for the drummer and the guitarist 😎💗
The whole production is unreal. Mind blowing
This is the song that made me want to be a musician. Guy Pratt!❤
PF is absolutely amazing here, backing girls and all, no band comes near this commitment on stage.
Eternamente
Tks for the work in putting this channel together. Back in high school (late 60's) we were and still are big fans.
Spirits Lifted &/While Never A Dull Moment ! -- Thank you !
Hola.
Just a stellar live performance of another Pink Floyd masterpiece. Sometimes I just don't have the words.
Amazing concert and an amazing band . The best 🎶🎵🎶🎵👍

Love it, One of My Fav Songs Till This Day..
Pink Floyd - "Learning to Fly " PULSE Remastered 2019 - PURA LUCURA!!! VIAJEM PARA DENTRO DE SÍ!!!
3:06 Ladies and Gentlemen : THE MASTER !!!
