Do you have a dragon? Would you like to train it? Well, this movie really glosses over how to do that. But, we teamed up with Squarespace to build a website FULL of fictional made-up information that likely won't be any more helpful to real dragon trainers than this movie is: thisisactuallyh...
Next week, a special guest.

Five sins removed.
FIVE.
And that's how you know he secretly liked the movie.
Bryn Neils lol he took like 10 from jaws and some from get out 😂👌🏻😎
Bryn Neils he subtracted more than 5 from Wall-E
@Xxx Lightning and @Nicholas Ali
Very true - meaning he liked all those movies. A removal of more than 4 sins is a great honor.
Bryn Neils who doesn’t
Took the words right out of my mouth. Most I've ever seen
you could just hear the CinemaSins guy enjoying himself through this movie, I don't think I have ever seen them remove so many sins from a movie too.
+MultiGamerGuy1 Well The Force Awakens Trailer had 0 sins.
+albert arnold well, he just removed lots of sins from The 6th Sense
***** They didn't turn the fucking hose off.
I honestly thought it was like memo, nearly sinless

“Why would dragons be afraid of eels?”
Well why are humans afraid of spiders?
Poison

Or elephants scarred of mice
Eels make dragins sick
Spider venom is nowhere near potent enough to cause too much damage to someone.
"Thank you for nothing, you useless reptile."
10/10 best line in the movie
You should have removed a sin for that line
I mean there were multiple things that deserved sin removals, like the part where Hiccup says, "Excuse me, pardon me, you brought me the wrong offspring! (...)" That was a really funny part, and I've not really seen anything like it. Instead, he just whines about how he thinks someone got drunk and then made Brave.
He should have removed ten
@@Arvannis The ironic part of that is that Brave came out two years after this movie

Seriously!
This is Cinema _Sins_ , not Cinema _Wins_ . If you wanna hear someone compliment the film go try Everything Great About HTTYD.
Hiccup and Toothless took forever to learn how to fly because Hiccup and Toothless had to be in sync in order to make it work, not to mention the tail wing was constantly upgraded to accommodate this. The other guys just had to jump on their dragons and let them do their thing.
Do their wing eh eh
MrJoshVJT And they had Hiccup to teach them. He just had to figure it out on his own. It was still a bit too fast tho
actually, it would still take time to ride a dragon

@@thewitchking3216 training to ride a dragon and training a dragon to become rideable more like doing the same to a GORILLA, if the depictions of mental capacities of the dragons are to be believed.
And I don't see any humans riding gorillas.
Because you can't expect to be able to ride smart animals.
Just like you can't expect humans to let you ride them and treat them like dogs.
@@NJ-wb1cz The movie suggests the dragons are smart enough to acknowledge humans riding them provide advantage to both.
As with toy story,I refuse to accept that there is anything wrong with this film. Good day to you sir.
Agreed!
+alex farmer To be fair if they had read any of the books all questions would be answered and most sins would probably be removed
+sahel Jade I couldn't help but to read it in Gavin's voice.
+alex farmer I agree.
+briana green (tanglestar5) No they wouldn't. because they would still be sins. You should not have to read a book in order to understand a movie. A movie is able to make sense in itself and there is no excuse if it doesn't.
When a movie has less than 90 sins, you know that CinemaSins and the crew loved the movie

What about the ATLA live action film?

Well, its a fantastic movie
He must have gone through a hard emotional journey to conjure the strength to watch this movie with a negative perspective
+MultiGamerGuy1 I detest it because of how much it fucks up the characters from the books and introducing a cardboard cutout love interest because of reasons.
+Mr Mc Walrus Did you just imply Astrid to be a cardboard cutout? ... really?
+Mr Mc Walrus You do realize that all the changes were done with the permission of the author, right? And they did change things but didn't "fuck anything up" in the process.
+Mr Mc Walrus The book wasn't that great in my opinion anyhow
+Shane Snyder There's a book about this? I didn't know that.
I'm just gonna say this: Animals (including dragons, I guess) know not to eat colorful animals, cause you know, poison. Including that "Black and Yellow" eel.
Aaaand in the case of dragons, eels can cause allucinations and can't control their shots.
+TheGhostgodzilla Eels can fuck dragons over yet gives a Brazilian male electrical powers. Logic.
Actually if you watch riders of berk, it's shown in a part of the ocean there are eels big enough to eat dragons
Jaeger Bombastic God of Cosmic Energy Oh yeah those things too...I wonder how powerful would a Typhoomerang be if it eat one of those giants things
+ya a It's difficult to sin a movie as sublime as this. They do it for fun, not at all serious critiquing. :P (Really though, there are movies actually worth sinning with comedic worth, unlike this.) But yes, good on you for pointing that out! I learned something new today.
You forgot Astrid's "Cool guys/chicks don't look at explosions" cliche.

“How is a wooden door able to sustain fire” well firstly, it’s not paper thin wood. Secondly, wood doesn’t just catch fire like that, it takes time to heat up sufficiently to combust. That door is thick.
Plus as hiccup runs outside you see it burning

So sad honestly
But hey, they had a great run, 3 movies, 2 series one of which is still on Netflix. And a few holidays specials, of which I am more than glad to binge all over again.
A trilogy to be remembered. How To Train Your Dragon will always be one of my favorites, both cartoons and movies.
@@TundraShard its so beautiful, I've watched the two cartoon seasons like 5 times, i never had the chance to get a Netflix membership but have watched race to the edge on UA-cam in semi watchable quality like even on repeat, watched the first movie like 20 times and the second one, watched the 3rd only once and it killed me and made me so sad o wasn't able to re-watch it, I wish they continue another new Netflix special, that'll be so fckn lit
@@yareugae638 Alright, your positivity for this series has me feeling nostalgic. I'm re-watching the entire trilogy and cartoon series once again.

(Love the name and pfp btw lol)
The "they survive this" moment at the end of the movie actually is explained. Dragons are mostly fireproof on the exterior of their bodies. Toothless catches Hiccup and wraps his body around him to prevent him from being injured by the fire
he was…mostly successful
he also YONKES his foot so then hiccup does not get burnt to a crisp before toothless wraps him, thats why his foot is gone bc he had to use his teeth.
I love it when he loves a movie that I love and removes a bunch of sins.

It's the best.
It's the only good dreamworks movie. Probably cos they stole Lilo and Stich directors from Disney and stole good story form a book.

+Lunardivider24 Those movies are flawless. They've already been sinned, and it was just an empty video file.
spartacus3111
no movie is wothout sin, theyve sinned toy stroy, that isnt blank, but I think the only sin would be:
Reading, eww, and bad aim
Storm Troopers didn't have bad aim in Episode 4.
"but why would a dragon ever be afraid of eels, EVER!!!"
Well if you watch the series you'll know dragons actually get really sick, become vulnerable, and can't see, hear, or think properly when they digest an eel so they tend to avoid them
You don’t even need the series for it not to be a scene, you can infer it. I assume it was a joke though because of the fact he points out how plenty of humans are commonly scared of things that can’t harm them moments before. I don’t think I could believe that anyone, yes even Jeremy, could be that dense
I mean in real life people are scared of little bugs and worms and shit 😂 I think them being scared of eels should have this effect of showing the audience that these dragons are not monsters and have some type of human aspect in them
is this a cinemasins record for most sins removed?

"Look for its blind spot, every dragon has one."
"What? Really? Why? That seems lime a huge evolutionary flaw, actually."
Me- another human that can only see 180 degrees, with a fraction of that being binocular vision, like 90% of other apex predators that walk earth, unlike the 90% of Prey that has almost 360 degrees of vision, heightened hearing, and improved smell.: *nods*
He is kinda correct tho. See, predators vision isn't as wide as prays vision but it evolved that way to see better and further objects that are right in front of predator for them to hunt. And dragons having blind spot right in front of them like horses have is a major flaw.
Even humans have a blind spot
Only eighty some-odd sins is like high praise from you guys!

Character walks away from explosion without looking back cliché
zomyMuffin 👍👍👍
zomyMuffin Even though it might be cliché, I find it pretty badass. Like in Iron Man when he just walks calmly and doesn't give a sh*t about the explosion behind him as heavy metal music is played in the background.
+zomyMuffin Yes, he should have sinned that part, but if was used in a satirical way. The movie was super self-aware about that moment. It was all set up to be a parody of the "badass who the main character has a crush on" cliché scene. So, the use was justified.

+Rabbit Tenvia Story time with Rabbit I'm not particularly an expert in the Httyd Dragons but I know some science behind dragon's breath, so here's my spew (super dragon experts don't be afriad to correct me if my dragon science is wrong):
It's basically a chemical fire, Dragon's saliva has some kinda chemical in it that when mixed with another chemical in their mucus then gets spit out and reacts with oxygen, boom you get a fire.
+Warrior Kitten if we are going into the books ask me
I'll dig em out...

THANK YOU for pointing out the Vikings with Scottish accent thing.
As someone with Scandinavian heritage that REALLY pissed me off! Seriously, it wouldn't have been difficult to have some characters with proper Scandinavian accents
TimeTraveling Peep just saying, the Vikings/Norwegians did control large parts of the British isles for a pretty long time, so it's not really that historically inaccurate
Good point, and duly noted. But why should the British Isles be the first territories to come to mind rather than the origin of the culture? Vikings had opened trade routes and stuff all over the place. Because as DreamWorks logic stands, there could be Vikings with French accents, too.
TimeTraveling Peep honestly, probably because Americans in general think Scottish are funny and/or suit the characters better

Or it might be the dragon sized eels in Race to the Edge, as they may have caused dragons to hate eels. The typhoomerang is massive, so even the big ones wouldnt threaten it. And we never see another massive dragon with eels, so who knows. Also, yeah. The eels make them sick.
Me just sitting here looking at you talking about the show: Fools. Half of these sins did not exist in the original book version.
Compared to the books, the movies & shows are SO inaccurate 😂
Walrus Toaster They are😂
I just wanted to say, the directors and writers and writers decided to have hiccups lose a leg because if he didn't and they survive completely unharmed it would be the equivalent of a cowboy and is horse at the end of an old western. they wanted to have a stronger bond between Hiccup and Toothless so that the struggles they experienced would be all worth it. I'm not sure if I explained it right.
DarkWolf I was actually watching a documentary about it. You're basically right, one of the directors actually wanted Hiccup to die! But one of the other director producer's convinced him to just let him lose a leg. Which turned out to be a good change becuase it mirrors Toothless' s lost tail wing thingy...
they were also going to have him wake up alone but they thought it was too depressing after he had just lost a leg so they had Toothless be there for him when he woke up. Also they didn't want Toothless to have the relationship with Hiccup the way a cowboy would with a horse, which is actually the original direction they were headed toward.
The cliche "'Cliche narration is cliche' cliche" seems too cliche to call it a cliche.

+Maximum Frequency I think you mean Jack Frost. He was the only reason I went to see it.
8:06 "Sure toothless is giving directions now, but they had to get to this point for it to happen. How did they know in which direction to sail in the first place?"
Using the map as seen at 2:36. :) They knew where the nest was, but couldn't reach it because the fog and stone pillars that surround it.
*****
Because of the last part of my last sentence. "but couldn't reach it because of the fog and stone pillars that surround it."
Fog + stone pillars = boats sink.
I read the books when I was a kid, but this is one of those FEW moments where the movies are actually WAY better then the source material. Srsly.
No, they aren't
Ehm, excuse me, but the movies are just *inspired* by the books. Movies basicaly take place in absolutely different universe and some characters from movies aren't even in the books!
@@fantasyhaven3900 let's just accept his opinion. Not need for a quarrel.
I am not saying we need a quarrel. No. I am ok with third movie being the last part to this amazing journey. Though I am sad that it will soon end.
@@fantasyhaven3900 Yeah. It's sad that it's gonna end.
How did you miss the part where Astrid finds Hiccup sneaking Toothless around and SHE ACTUALLY SEES HIM STRAIGHT AHEAD?
Love this movie though, and the low sincount tells me you do too!
DO UNFRIENDED!!!
i didn't even go see that movie and knew it was god awful just by every single trailer that was shown as a UA-cam ad..
+React2Quick It is actually quite good in what it does, definitely worth at least one viewing.
+Mimit Bey DO ME!
No wait...
That came out wrong.
Lolkick1000 Ahaha you're the best!
No..I'm the worst :(
Dammit CinemaSins! You're turning me into a movie snob.
I'm watching "The Visit" right now, and I'm freakin' "sinning" it as I watch.
See what you've done?
And you can go ahead and sin me for giving M. Knight Shyamalan another shot
+RUTheCatalyzt Ok +1sin "ding", and they gave me a more critical side to watching movies too (but this helps me since I do movie reviews).
Same!
For the record, this is actually a GREAT horror movie with a twist that is actually REALLY surprising and changes the tone of the whole movie. I totally didn't see it coming. Shyamalan's best movie since Sixth Sense, hands down. Seriously, this one is worth seeing in theaters. Shyamalan is back!
.....for now....
RUTheCatalyzt What about unbreakable, that one was good.
Laura Wanco I saw Unbreakable in theaters when it came out, and remember leaving the movie theater disappointed. It was a little slow for me, and the whole real life super-hero/villain 'twist' was just dumb to me. I know that there are great fans of that movie, and I'll admit the buildup was interesting, but I was overall disappointed with that one. I liked Signs a lot better.
Everyone needs a Toothless.
#5: We see the door on fire in the next shot, don't think they just explode when torched
#15: "Has the biggest badass father of them all" Yeah, but his mom was also quite, uh, what's a better word for scrawny? And also he's only 15.
#16: There were actually Scottish vikings, so if you're going to have English speaking vikings, that'd make sense.
#18: Yeah, just swap a gender or two and the entire plot and you've got Brave!
#21: Because he's a good leader
#26: That dragon was obviously trying to "go for the kill", as evidenced by the fact that it spit a fireball a split second after being pulled away, lmao.
#29: What exactly did the book solve? The page on the night fury only said they knew nothing about them
#30: Well, they're huge powerful creatures they've been dedicating themselves to battling year round for generations, it'd make sense for dragons to become a part of their culture and daily lives.
#32: All vertebrates have a blind spot
2nd #35: What kind of wild animal immediately understands the concept of petting?
#36: This might be a stretch but in real life bright colors like that are often a warning to other animals that means "I'm toxic stay away". (Edit: also apparently in the show dragons can get "eel pox" from eating them, they do make them sick)
#38: I mean again Hiccup was a moment away from being torched by that gronkle before being saved
#65: "If we find the nest and destroy it the dragons will leave. They'll find another home." Seems like he told everyone the plan during that meeting, idk what Gobber's on about
#66: They'd already been to this area and failed to find the nest. They probably know the general area from following the dragons after raids. It's the trip you see them returning from earlier in the movie.
#70: Night furies are a lot more intelligent than your average dragon. That's why it took so long for Hiccup to gain Toothless's trust.
1st #72: He's quite obviously restrained by the neck, so he can't move his head much at all
2nd #72 and 73: I mean Hiccup is about to risk his life here.
#74: You should have noticed bro
#76: A night fury's scales are fireproof and obviously Toothless wrapped Hiccup in his wings
#82: I don't think there's a set rule on how long dragons, a fictional beast, live, lmao.
So.. that's 21 out of 82 sins. Yes, I have too much time on my hands, and for the record I thought that axe returns joke was fuckin funny alright
imagine a perfect world where cinemasins pointed out genuine flaws in movies instead of ranting about shit whose answers can be found with about 2 seconds of research or an attention span of more than 30
Did you know that Toothless was modeled after a cat? Hint: look at his movements
Actually, he was modeled after an axolotl. Look them up, and you can see the similarities.
@@legit2489 visuals. Look at toothless's behavior and you'll understand
Honestly he reminds me of a pittie
@@legit2489 gravity falls flashbacks
Actually, I think all the animators wanted to see their own pets in Toothles, so there's influence from cats, dogs, horses, all sorts.
The sin of them being able to learn how to ride quickly? They had Hiccup to teach them, whereas Hiccup had to learn everything himself, discover every method through trial and error. The other kids didn't need to do that.
Also those dragons weren't crippled and so they didn't need to also learn to control a prosthetic.
And Hiccup had to make a tail and figure out how to use that tail, whereas the other dragon riders didn't, soooooo it's easier, I agree
Corgo_Dizzle Official
Yes it was *easier* for them I agree too. But considering most people can't even learn to ride the basics of HORSE riding in that time, it's pretty unbelievable that they learn Dragon riding in what a couple of days?
And don't even get started on the fact that if you fall off mid flight and your dragon can't catch you, you die or get seriously injured.
So yeah the sin stays.
in the TV show if a dragon eats an eel then it fucks with all of their senses
accept for one species
1- it does affect them, they are just used to it
2- it's two species, the Typhoomerang and the Death Song
Wolfgirl Redwings oh ok well it's been a while so I only vaguely remember it
Typhoonmerang is the only eating them that I know, toothless looked like he smoked weed
Honestly, can we count the TV show as not canon? HONESTLY I HATED IT. My order is
Book
Movies
TV show right at the bottom
I loved the books (Ending made me cry) And the movie was great, but the Show was just a crappy knock off.
I saw this in theaters and just *knew* there had to be a sequel. They’ve been my favorite movies ever since the first one
10:11 "thank you for nothing, you useless reptile"
lol
Dragon adorability obviously evolved for the same reason as mammal adorability and bird adorability. So that dragon parents would want to take care of baby dragons. Then you just apply things like neoteny and eyes adapted to night vision and you get a dragon version of a cat.
Seems that toothless is literally the only good looking dragon in the whole movie though
+OnnaKonna And my cat specifically. LOL
Toothless' entire character is based around a cat lol
LOL Just saying. My family saw this in theaters when it came out...he even LOOKS like our cat. We were all cracking up. XD
+Woogoo336 Not all birds and mammals are too adorable either, as adults anyway. Just compare a little owl with an adjutant stork, or a housecat with an aye-aye.
one thing that always bother me is hiccup wakes up with a missing foot and kind just shakes of, if i were him ill probably have a panic attack
I makes me REALLY mad when people say, " How to Train Your Dragon is the best Disney movie"
Cat Claws IKR
If disney made this , I feel like it would suck
Kaleela Edwards , True dat
Yea, I know right? When it's a BOOK series that not many people knew. It makes me so angry that these people ripped this beautiful masterpiece of a book off for a cash grab.
@@sleepybrachydios3292 everyone would suddenly sing for no apparent reason, and the dragons would probably talk in perfect english after being befriended
What not many people know is, How to Train your Dragon was originally a children's novel, written by Cressida Cowell, Simon Cowell's wife. The book did not include Astrid, or a number of other characters, and toothless was a puny common green dragon that Hiccup caught during his coming of age rite of passage. He was supposed to steal a monsterous nightmare.
+JustBlayne Different Simon Cowell.
+JustBlayne yep. the Books were awesome. Has the last one come out yet?
+JustBlayne Lol. an unlikely hero with a disobedient little green dragon and Puny asthmatic berserker bardling as his best friend
+JustBlayne I read the books... i came to the movie hoping to see some of it. However despite deviating away it was a good movie that I believe stands on its own.
+JustBlayne I always tell people this and they refuse to believe it lol. I like both though
Dragons are like cats, cute and adorable, but dangerous XD
Lidia Kruger my cat is toothless she is seriously exactly like him
Lidia Kruger Facts.
there is a post on tumblr that compares specific poses of toothless being done by a cat and said "Cats or toothless?"
That’s the exact reason I want one...night fury or day fury that is ^^
The team who designed toothless and how he would move actually watched cat videos to base him off of that, that’s why he has the bug eyes the sideways oval shaped head and jumps around like a cat
This is probably my favourite movie of all time, mostly because of how adorable Toothless is. :3
+Kaera Neko This is my second favorite movie of all time. My favorite is the sequel.
Bob Feen That's true. The sequel is awesomesauce.
Weeaboo.
Whales hey This is the second time someone has called me that in the comment section, and it's still extremely off topic.
Kaera Neko Oh boo hoo, someone got angry over a silly comment? Wow I should go for jail for that. Crime of the fucking century.
0:58 Not everyone can look bigger than the single most powerful being in the world.
@Uncle Sam you're just a dead person that hates his life and copies the same comment over and over again just to have something to do
@The Killer shaggy memes are never dead!
@@draglorr5578 objectively wrong
@@draglorr5578 Can't die if you were never alive to begin with.
1:41 maybe not fire, but fire with saliva in it! (just to make it have sense)
5:54 For the record, Hiccup was attached to the dragon with the chain to hold him during fly. He was going to the town to free himself from that
8:47 Dragons can't do fire while they're in water, and he was desperate too
Well, maybe this is the only time I actually try to support the movie, but because it's my favourite, that's all, don't worry.
+Bass Rai On the first one, Monstrous Nightmares actually don't breathe normal fire. They essentially spew liquid napalm, hence why it flows like a liquid.
Who told you dragons can't use fire underwater? Last time I checked certain kinds of fire works under water.
+Red they say during the movie that getting a dragon's head wet will prevent them from being able to spark a flame
+Brian Keith Lawson I assumed the elaborate (and still experimental) setup that Hiccup made probably would have been a pain to disassemble, with a high probability of damage. Toothless isn't one to keep still, either. In the cover of night, when no one was around, I could understand why Hiccup felt the need to swiftly sneak in. It was amusingly naive, but that's just Hiccup. He's precious about the stuff he makes.
When you say the seatbelt is worthless... I don't follow. The original "hook" simply had an unforeseeable flaw in its design. Everything was trial and error to begin with.
+Jugem16 Well toothless flies in the day and hes the only dark black dragon. Hes super dragon absorbing the sun firing stored solar plasma maybe. IDK
Wow, they removed so many sins from this movie...CinemaSins must love it.
The second movie is way better.
+Jake Bryant (JBryant) They're almost equals IMO. Except Astrid. Astrid is horrible in the second one.
+Jake Bryant (JBryant) no it isn't
for good reason
+Butt Kingsley his opinion on the movie, he just thinks it's better
I uh, don't think toothless was 'afraid' of the eel, I think he was just VERY offended by the odor.
It clearly looked scared, just as the other dragons did.
I thought he was making an Ewwwww face.
No its because they get sick around them.
Dragons don't like eels
Dragons become very sick of eels, that's why they don't like them
A few of the sins you gave were due to the dragons taking so long to breathe fire and such, but as someone who owns a bearded dragon and a leopard gecko and watching how they eat live food, if they could breath fire they would 100% do it exactly like that lol
yeah exactly! you could see their tongue freeze as they kind of think where to hit
7:24 "Protagonist tries to tell the truth to his father but totally ignoring him" cliché
I would like cinema sins to make an everything wrong with how to train your dragon 2

Seriously? How did you not know that there was a competitive rivalry between them until the big fight scene? That's like the only thing they showed them doing!
+Austin Dwyer Might be sarcasm
in non movie bits maybe...
5:29 I mean he’s just fighting dragons with a new way, and this training stuff is to protect the village right? This can’t really be called cheating I think
Exactly. The village lives to kill dragons because they see them as vicious killers, so I don’t think they’d find a few blades of grass to be suspicious.
"Thank you for nothing, you useless reptile." I died

Yo can tell cinemasins had a good bit of love for this movie.
Even after all those years, hiccup can never get bigger than Shaggy
@DutchViking 6949 Ohh, no no no. Shaggy is from something different. Shaggy ist from a show called "Scooby Doo". There was a meme at the time I posted this about "Shaggy" being REALLY powerful, but in the show hes just a regular person. You can search up 'Scooby Doo" or "Shaggy memes" to understand what Im talking about.
@DutchViking 6949 *schorrie n morrie angrily incomin*
uh CinemaSins guy... Astrid is a "She"
+Justin R Indeed. That sin the "he" is referencing Hiccup, though we could have clarified our pronouns better.

+CinemaSins *Ding.*
How long a dragon lives varies from fictional series to fictional series, and while many have them as very long lived, I don't remember "How to Train Your Dragon" ever mentioning the average life span of a dragon in their universe.
In the race to the edge series it is explained the the live for 40-50 years.
Everything wrong with Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children? Eh?
+Timepony123- Uh... nothing. I actually haven't seen it yet. But I think it's good. Who said something was wrong?
Dan Rush Firstly, how would you know if the movie is bad or not, if you haven't even seen it? Little weird to me. Secondly, this channel does basically every goddamn movie suggested. HTTYD, Inside Out, etc. etc. I NEVER said that Miss Peregrine's movie is bad. Just wanted to see a video like this on it by this channel because I think it would be cool.
Taiinted I've watched it, I would like the twins to have more of their scene using their "power", but that might just be me.
Spooky Scary Lamppost I know in the book series they made no appearance in the second and third book which is a little annoying. They weren't important in the books, so I wouldn't expect the movie to portray them differently.
Everything.
"Thank you for nothing, you useless reptile." Is my number one favorite line in the series
