It may not seem that important until you remember his father's position next to Stoick as his Next-in-command, Snotlout assumes his father's position as his next to Hiccup when Stoick dies, showing full loyalty to him and making the funeral preparations for Stoick. It broke my heart when I heard it so I must share now :)
I saw it when it released on February 22 and no joke that’s the most I’ve ever cried at a film, the last few scenes took me from tearing up to full on ugly crying, but the film was still fantastic and I might go see it again on March break❤️
That scene when Stoic finds Valka again... I will physically beat anyone over the head with it if they try to pull the ol' "Animated movies are just for kids!" crap on me.

Honestly, Toothless playing tug-of-war with Stormfly with a tree while Hiccup and Astrid talk about sensitive subjects about Hiccup's mom should've been a win.
from what i can remember (what sticks out even though u havent seen the movie in a while) the 2nd one was always my favorite bcs u always just remember the giant bewilderbeasts
You missed 2 Wins: "I'll bloody his fist with my face" deserve a win, best joke in the movie. Hiccup stealing the black sheep near the end, but giving Astrid the points anyway.
He missed a few- 1.the fact that Stoic said when fighting Dragon, "It takes more than a little fire to kill me!" Well...-Irony 2.When Toothless and Hiccup were trying to escape running into the second Bewilderbeast's tail, with Hiccup saying, "It's now or never!", It was a reference to the first movie, when they failed to escape the Red Death's tail, resulting in a lost limb. 3. When Drago talks to Hiccup about his life, saying, "My village burned, my family taken." (And he lost a limb). Their 2 lives are almost identical, but Hiccup decides to take a different path a the moment of seeing Toothless for the first time.-just a cool contrast. Love your video's! Keep up the great review work!!
1.Toothless'es plasma blast IS a lot more powerful than regular dragon fire. 2. Did you mean when Hiccup said "Not again!" 3. Totally agree on that one
Hiccup didn't lose all of his family compared to Drago who did. The only person he "lost" leading up to that point was Valka. I think Drago's an example of what can happen if the worse got brought out from dragons.
One thing I'm shocked you didn't talk about is Drago's Bewilderbeast. It's not just a villain, it's clearly been abused. When Stoick saves Hiccup it seems shocked about someone loving and showing affection and even seems regretful. Never notices until recently how interesting it is as a character
If I remember right we actually see drago’s bewilderbeast at the end of rtte so it was only in his possession for like a year. I always feel like that kinda made drago scarier as a villain since if he could fully control one of the most daunting species within a year, that just emphasised his power
@@cryptidclaws3640 The egg at the end is most likely either the egg of Dragos Bewilderbeast that then becomes Hiccups moms friend or it’s the egg of some other bewilderbeast that then became the White one we see in HTTYD 2. I thought its coloring was a tad bit too light to be Dragos but I might be mistaken since it was some time ago since I saw it.
I’m years late, but my favorite detail is you can see Drago’s Bewilderbeast in HTTYD3 when Toothless is in the Hidden World. It’s a quick shot, but he’s there.
Hiccup is like Peter Parker. He doesn’t get to be happy for long periods of time. He finally gets both his parents back here, a chance for everything he ever wanted, but then it’s all taken from him in a matter of minutes. But he continues to do what he knows is right, what he has to do, because that’s his job. Hiccup is always being shit on, just like Peter. And that’s what makes him so interesting. He has an amazing character with flaws that make sense for a character like him. Sure, he always gets it done, but he’s been shit on for most of his life.
Hiccup's parents reuniting is genuinely one of my favourite scenes... Ever, from ANY film, animated and live action. It is just SO powerful! Valka's growing panic that is completely destroyed in a single sentence, the look of complete and utter disbelief and wonder on stoik's face, the MUSIC...Just everything about it incredible!
So one of my favorite things from this movie was something you didnt touch on which surprised me was almost like a role reversal. In the first movie Hiccup struggled to prove to the Vikings that he was good enough to be one of them. In this one Stoick tries to prove that Hiccup is good enough to be Chief a concept Hiccup struggles with before ultimately being forced to take up the role.
Can we acknowledge that hiccups basket for the game is red and he puts the black sheep in a blue one…that’s Astrid’s basket he gave her the last sheep and it’s so subtle but it’s so adorable 🥺
I don’t understand how Hiccup’s speech during Stoick’s funeral about not being able to be his father, didnt get ALL the wins. Every time I watch that scene i have to resist tearing up. Love your videos man! Keep it up!
Btw when hiccup say "not again" when flying down the alphas tail, that is a node to the first film against the big dragon ( I believe its called the red death) and to how they crash in the first film.
Samantha George definitely remembers it, cause look at his expression, and how he knows specifically that Toothless didn’t have enough turning speed to do it before
Hiccup and Astrids romance has been around since the first one but they decided to confirm their relationship in the TV series (Dragons: Race to the Edge.) It definitely explained how all of a sudden they were dating, they definitely put effort in the HTTYD, respect to DreamWorks teams for the amount of effort they put in.
what do you mean all of a sudden? they very clearly were setting it up in the first movie and they kissed at the end. it was no surprise going into the sequel to see them still together and more bonded than ever
@@spideyfan95 I know I'm not the original poster of that comment, but I'm also an Australian who's already seen the movie and I'd probably give it around a 9 out of 10. Easily holds up to the other movies. :D

It's basically less than a week till HTTYD 3 is in theaters for me and I thought I'm emotionally prepared. Then you have to do something so many people have asked for and reminding me of how amazing this series actually is, and I'm crying again.
Wait really!?!?!? Wow, didn't know it what that delayed in America. It came out 3rd January in Australia. I personally enjoyed it a lot, was a very great movie. Hope you also enjoy it.
as emotionally prepared as you think you are, you won’t be, trust me! i had to tell myself not even five minutes in to stop crying already lol. i hope you enjoy it!
fun fact about Drago screaming/yelling to gain control over the dragons: Djimon Hounsou would do that scream to warm up his voice to make a bit more gravelly. someone overheard and loved it so much that they found a way to put it in the movie
It's sad knowing that when hiccup, his dad and his mother being in the cave and dancing could have been the only happy memory hiccup may have had with his family
One thing I really appreciate about 9:19 is that it’s a literal reference to the first movie and how much they’ve grown since then. With the first big dragon they defeated, it’s tail knocked Hiccup off of Toothless and ultimately caused him to loose his foot (leg?). Here, they successfully avoid the tail and win (and Toothless gains his alpha ability)
1:15 *CinemaWins, I could not have said it better myself 😭* 8:09 If you did not cry after this, you have no soul 9:28 If your popcorn was still in your hands in this point, then you are a robot
Yeah, it was, I'd say to line up with school holidays. It's why we usually get the kids movies that come out at Thanksgiving in the US, on Boxing Day. Kids aren't on holidays in November here. HTTYD 3 legit made me cry. It was so amazing. felt like the end of an era.
“How to Train Your Dragon 2” was a gorgeous looking animated sequel that takes the next chapter into a cool looking series. It’s cool to have a continuation where Hiccup and his team of people and dragons are finding new dragons and helping more dragons to be friendly instead of being bad. Even the emotional parts are so good that its hard to love every characters including the death of Hiccup’s father and the mother’s absent was revealed is very touchy. Great sequel to a fantastic fantasy film.
Same... I love this channel with all my heart, but this REALLY bugged me, especially after watching the series and hearing Fishlegs call Meatlug his girl at least once per episode
I appreciate how they didn't drag out the "best friends argue" trope when Hiccup is mad with grief and lashes out. they're such good friends that Toothless understands to give Hiccup space and Hiccup immediately regrets it and makes sure to prove himself again. a tired trope done well due to the deep understanding between them
7:40 The Bewilderbeast battle honestly deserved more wins, and it's a shame it wasn't at least a bit longer. Never before has an animated film so PERFECTLY captured the sheer weight and power of these two impossibly huge creatures, and unlike the other battles of the series that rely mostly on projectile breath and flight and speed, this battle is just one of pure brute force in an epic battle of two kings for supremacy. The impalement was kinda unnecessarily violent tho. Could just have him thrown into the cliffside and later die of his injuries, would also have given him more time to be mourned by Valka and the dragons before the new Alpha took command.
I know this is 5 years after the first movie, but this movie has so many call back to the first one. For example when Toothless catches Hiccup and flies up the tail, the first movie, they crashed and fell together, but this movie, they are together. They are stronger as a pair. They have matured and are soulmates.
Neave Moore another call back is when toothless learned to draw he wouldn’t let hiccup mess up his art in the first movie and he wouldn’t let the light fury mess it up in the hidden world
Good Name so true! This is one of the best trilogies that I know. They took earlier movies and didn’t only build on them but also developed them. I will miss HTTYD when it is over
I love this movie and feared that the 3rd movie was just milking the franchise like they did with Shrek. But I was pleased that the story was great and they wrapped everything up with heartwarming now.
I was really wanting you to say something about the way Toothless saved Hiccup the first time. The was he opened up his wings was the same way that he saved Hiccup in the first movie when Hiccup lost a leg.
Missed win: "For the Dancing and the Dreaming" is the same music as "Stoic's Ship." Stoic: "I thought I'd have to die before we danced that again." Valka: "No need for drastic measures." That just adds a whole new level of emotion. Also the scene where Stoic saves Hiccup, it used to bother me a little, but then I watched some behind the scenes and that's actually Dean Deblois favorite scene. No matter what frustrations Hiccup had with his father, they were nothing compared to Stoic's love for his son. "With love comes loss, son. Its part of the deal." Also, "There is no greater gift than love."
Samuel Tan imho the “one of” is justified: httyd and atla. Those two series are absolutely unparalleled in their storytelling and ability to portray fundamental themes and emotion
I'm pretty sure Fishlegs makes a couple of references to it through out the film, not to mention he says "who's my little princess" when everyone is reuniting with their dragons
9:08 this "now or never" that hiccup said is actually about the first movie where he fights with the nest's alpha dragon (a.k.a. the red death) and Toothless and him fell on it's tail and hiccup lost his leg. So hiccup said now or never because they had to be saved and not let this happen again.
Another amazing HTTYD detail that I never heard anyone talking about is how both the series make a passing mark between the movies, making Race to the Edge (I don't really remember the name) finish with a Alpha egg being taken by Hiccups mother
9:07 I always thought of it more as a throwback to the end of the first movie when they're trying to dodge the red deaths tail and fail, which leads hiccup to partly lose his leg.
@@colorheart1113 then you clearly haven't watched any httyd things from gift of the nightfury onwards... fishlegs discovers that meatlug is a girl when she lays eggs in gift of the nightfury, and she's been referred to as a female ever since (in all the following tv shows and both httyd 2 + 3)

When the hand that is shown collecting arrows, it isn't Gobber since it had a right arm and leg, it's Snotlout.

My eyes sweating.
So much focus on emotion on that one. Just watched it tonight and ranted about how much it made me cry on Reddit lol.
I saw it when it released on February 22 and no joke that’s the most I’ve ever cried at a film, the last few scenes took me from tearing up to full on ugly crying, but the film was still fantastic and I might go see it again on March break❤️

Honestly, Toothless playing tug-of-war with Stormfly with a tree while Hiccup and Astrid talk about sensitive subjects about Hiccup's mom should've been a win.

Httyd 3: emotions
Httyd 2: action AND emotions

The third one was so bad in comparison to both of them
You missed 2 Wins:
"I'll bloody his fist with my face" deserve a win, best joke in the movie.
Hiccup stealing the black sheep near the end, but giving Astrid the points anyway.
He gave it a win at: 12:55

@@ferrallezz5246 Yup
True chivalry
12:57
He missed a few-
1.the fact that Stoic said when fighting Dragon, "It takes more than a little fire to kill me!" Well...-Irony
2.When Toothless and Hiccup were trying to escape running into the second Bewilderbeast's tail, with Hiccup saying, "It's now or never!", It was a reference to the first movie, when they failed to escape the Red Death's tail, resulting in a lost limb.
2. Did you mean when Hiccup said "Not again!"
3. Totally agree on that one
A lot of heroes have that relationship (spider man and Harry, Harry Potter and Voldemort) and it makes it all so much more interesting and wonderful
2 is acc about a move they have tried to get but havent
Hiccup didn't lose all of his family compared to Drago who did. The only person he "lost" leading up to that point was Valka. I think Drago's an example of what can happen if the worse got brought out from dragons.
Oh, awesome addition. This will help in my hyperfixation info bombing :D
“I hate everything about this”

I think that's the point. We're supposed to hate it. It's a win because the scene did what it was supposed to.
He hates it because it’s a gut punch dreamworks out there on purpose
I hate and love that scene.
One thing I'm shocked you didn't talk about is Drago's Bewilderbeast. It's not just a villain, it's clearly been abused. When Stoick saves Hiccup it seems shocked about someone loving and showing affection and even seems regretful. Never notices until recently how interesting it is as a character
wow i'm going to go rewatch the film for this detail
If I remember right we actually see drago’s bewilderbeast at the end of rtte so it was only in his possession for like a year. I always feel like that kinda made drago scarier as a villain since if he could fully control one of the most daunting species within a year, that just emphasised his power
Thats completly True there is a series That Plays in the Time between These 2 movies and it also explains why hiccups mom has the good Alpha
9:51 , the scene where the old lady is getting hugged by like a hundred baby dragons is (atleast for me) the cutest thing in the entire film.
Not babies. Those are Terrible Terrors, in the adult stage.

I was a crying mess in the theater. The ending just hits you
you missed one win, when hiccup & toothless were going to deal with drago, the camera showed astrid and she shouted "Go get 'em babe!"
Chai great analogy 👍
Both of my favourite heroes: Spider-Man and Hiccup
Having bad things happen to a character doesn’t mean they have “character flaws.” That’s not what that means.
Please never compare Hiccup to Peter Parker again.
and yet, through all the shit he goes through, he's still your friendly neighbourhood dragon trainer. just like Peter

I actually never noticed that and it’s honestly so cute
I don’t understand how Hiccup’s speech during Stoick’s funeral about not being able to be his father, didnt get ALL the wins. Every time I watch that scene i have to resist tearing up.

Btw when hiccup say "not again" when flying down the alphas tail, that is a node to the first film against the big dragon ( I believe its called the red death) and to how they crash in the first film.
Yes. My thought. Hiccup just remembering how he got hit by Red Death's tail in the first film.
Samantha George definitely remembers it, cause look at his expression, and how he knows specifically that Toothless didn’t have enough turning speed to do it before

The second movie is my absolute favourite of the trilogy.

I hate doing this, especially to people I respect, but I gotta correct you on something: 7:05 Meatlug is female!

This video should be 1 hour and 45 minutes long.
Eedxdn
I was really wanting you to say something about the way Toothless saved Hiccup the first time. The was he opened up his wings was the same way that he saved Hiccup in the first movie when Hiccup lost a leg.
Same
Missed win: "For the Dancing and the Dreaming" is the same music as "Stoic's Ship."
Stoic: "I thought I'd have to die before we danced that again."
Valka: "No need for drastic measures."
That just adds a whole new level of emotion.
Imo, HTTYD series is one of the greatest animated series of all time

I'm still pissed off that Toy Story 3 beat HTTYD1 for the Oscar in 2010.
It's hard to be mad at Toy Story 3 for anything. Anything. But that will do it.
@@Ikedawg43 Yes! We need justice for these things :') I need to wait another week to watch the third movie but...idc if it turns out to be bad *it had better win an Oscar*
Soooo his mother is Irish? That explains Hiccup's voice!

@@Aesthetic.gremlin I'm Irish! Idk why I said that but I thought it would be relevant--

Really sorry you probably won't be able to monetize this video. Still, I hope it does really well, cause this is one I've been looking forward to for SOOOOOO long!
Also, "Hidden World" is already out in my country and I saw it a few weeks ago. It's gorgeous. You'll all love it.
Ro994 luckyyyy

Yes, I really loved it too, watched it a few weeks ago. A beautiful ending in my opinion 💙
The dragon scene when they were flying around that pillar the colorful dragons reminded me of the colorful Banshees in Avatar. You know the movie with the big blue people. Yep that movie
Totally forgot the "Take Me" scene with Ruffnut. made me love a side-character i never thought i'd love. :'D
