  • Japanese people are famous for being hard workers, that’s why they often drink to celebrate the end of the day. Many people in Japan think of this as a milestone in their careers. Due to these types of celebrations, host and hostess clubs and bars are flourishing.

    I will never understand why host bars exist. I lived in Japan for several years and saw girls get hit on more than in a typical '80's movie. Seriously, if a girl wants male attention, all she has to do is exist and guys will approach her. Whether it's on the train, in the train station, in the combini, on the street etc. No girl in Japan needs to spend money for male attention, assuming she's even decently cute.
    What's even crazier is that girls constantly get approached by men in Tokyo, but will then go to host clubs to PAY for men to talk to them...meanwhile men end up going to hostess clubs because none of the girls they approached would give them the time of day. It's completely nonsensical.

      I don't know. I love Japan. Some of my closest friends were hostesses. We had a great time. On their nights off and when they got off, all they wanted to do was party. Plus, their customers always gave them money and gifts, so when we went out, they would pay for the drinks, food, and get us into clubs. They're great.

      Part of it is the same reason prostitution exists: it's a business transaction. There are clear definitions and boundaries implied as part of the transaction. A girl chatting up some random guy might end up with a stalker or have a bad time. The same girl paying for a guy at a host bar knows that they (almost certainly) won't have a stalker or a bad time because the guy is professional company. It's sort of like how Chef in South Park put it: "that's not why you pay a prostitute; you're not paying her to stay, you're paying her to leave afterwards."

    9:00 I actually can understand this. With all the internet stuff we still are less connected than before, and if your family disagrees with some of your choices, and friends don't understand your life goals, then it can quickly become a lonely place. The Norwegian government took my siblings from me and sent them 1000km away, so if Norway had this service I might have rented a sister to go to the movies with or go snowmobiling or skiing or camping. For years I would think of something funny to say and turn around to tell my siblings and then realize they weren't there. Ripping my heart out every time.

      I can't even imagine how...I'm sorry to hear that. That's just...so barbaric. I have 4 siblings, sometimes we argue, and we may have bad blood between us and an uneasy rocky relationship. Sometimes wishing they were gone from my life or me from theirs for all their mishaps. But...at the end of the day I can't bring myself to outright hate them, I love them still though they won't know it nor will I show it or they may love me. They may hate me, but I still cling and hope to the thought that someday we can let bygones be bygones and be a family once again even though it seems far-fetched.

    • @shirothehero0609
      @shirothehero0609 10 місяців тому +6

      Same can be said for the US, but unfortunately there are MANY who are homeless by choice and I know the same holds true in Japan. The bigger issue is population replacement. Their population and my heritage is set to drastically decline in number which will cause major issues without immediately increasing birthrate or opening up to immigration on a larger scale - which has its own set of unique problems.

    • @jamesfiaco4922
      @jamesfiaco4922 10 місяців тому +5

      @@shirothehero0609 you are way off base because the Japanese have a population of 120 million in a landmass that is equivalent to 2 1/2 California's. America has a population of 330 million within a landmass from East to West Maine to California. Secondly Japan hasn't been dealing with homeless teenage runaways for nearly as many years as America? And that is because the Japanese have a higher standard of quality of living compared to America. You don't want to accept this reality therefore progress will not be made if we have to rely am people like you.

    • @shirothehero0609
      @shirothehero0609 9 місяців тому +2

      @jamesfiaco4922 What does landmass and comparison to California have to do with population replacement and birthdate? It's not like we have run out of space, if that's what you're oddly insinuating. It's birthrate and population replacement that is the issue. That's an objective fact. Look at any population pyramid, it's inverted.
      Look at child per family average, it's around 1.2 now - that means Japanese are dying off faster than they are being replaced.
      Second, People will never listen to you if you're immediately pulling the "people like you" crap. Because someone has firsthand knowledge, statistics or data that's different than yours, doesn't mean they are wrong. Others who have seen or heard something different is a good thing, it helps figure out the real truth.
      No need to be a dick.

      @@shirothehero0609 Landmass population it signifies the difference between how many people could successfully live in a particular area that's why brought that up. Meaning Americans go through 1000 times more resources and leave behind equally as much trash compared to every other country in the world. And you're right everybody has an opinion. But only until they find out they're being held physically mentally financially spiritually accountable to their belief and then there is quiet as can be for all eternity are we clear? An example some years back here in America somebody had the opinion that it was good to use lead paint. Until we found out children were dying from eating this paint . So the point is if somebody didn't have a bad harmful opinion about the safety associated with this type of paint those children would have never died in that manner for sure. None the less I will check out the birthing rate death population situation with the Japanese.

      And in this modern world, wherein older traditions and cultures often collide frequently with newer ways of life or ages, it's almost a universal process. Others just either haven't found it yet, or are young, and the magnifying glass of their own media makes it a terrifying issue like always.

That was also when the loneliness hit it's hardest though. Loneliness no doubt sucks, and the depression that comes with it feels like an anchor, which causes your mood to continuously spiral out of control. It does get better though... if you can endure through it. It sucks all the way, but when you start taking responsibility for your own happiness (which in English means going outside and doing fun things when you're bored or going home when gone for a day out with friends, but just want to get some alone time in).
      Your parents/relatives/role-models are the ones that teach you how to build the metaphorical plane when you are young so you can fly. Then in your twenties, you crash and burn. Then because it's your twenties, you are the only one that can build the plane again. If your parents/relatives/role-models are there, they don't help, because now... maybe it's time for you to build your own plane? And fly free.

    That's why a Japanese comedian jokingly said they are a soon-to-be an extinct nationality.
    I thought Japan's rural areas are preserving the nation's tried and tested customs and traditions.
    May they emerge when it needed the most, and their resilience from post-WWII humiliation re-lit an inspiration.

    • @MrSGL21
      @MrSGL21 9 місяців тому +1

      too high of a population density. the more people you cram into a space the less connected to each other they become. the national institutes of health did a series of experiments with rats back in the 60s or 70s. they found that once a rat colony's population hit a certain level the rats stopped breeding and the colony collapsed. you're seeing this now in real time with Japan, europe isn't far behind.

      @alonzosurrette3717 9 місяців тому +3

      No, that's not true. And if you were at a work party, you can inform your coworkers before hand that you don't drink. And if your boss comes to you to pour, simply place your hand over your glass. It's okay not to drink in Japan. People refuse all the time.
