  • This is a drain that clogs up after almost every storm. Without this drain the street would flood. This is the first pond scum clog I gave found and it is very heavy stuff. I unclog this about every 2 weeks and soon is fall and I expect a large clog here in Oct when the leaves fall. 8/20/19

    Many reasons why I love these videos, including:
    - The comments section of this channel's videos are some of the most positive and uplifting of any I've seen on UA-cam
    - It teaches us that not much effort is needed to make a huge difference, and we should all consider how much we could help/support others just by making a small amount of effort to talk to them, or offer to help them

      I totally agree! I really enjoy the encouraging and uplifting vibe from reading comments, like yours. It makes you pay a bit more attention to the environment your in. I saw that when the local lake recently laid new gravel along the hiking trail that they didn’t grade it to flow into the lake, so the trail is getting ruts and huge washouts (I’m in the Pacific Northwest), so one day I just enjoyed making little drainage ditches to drain huge puddles, thus making it much nicer for others to walk on the trail without getting their shoes soaked. A little girl noticed what I was doing and she enjoyed moving the leaves and watching the current go faster. It was a good feeling. I got soaked, I was sweating and still had to walk a mile uphill home, and when I went back several days later it was still flowing cuz the whole hillside was draining. Today Bellingham Washington has had the worst flooding I’ve ever seen. It was record breaking rainfall by 3x! Look up Bellingham flooding November 15, 2021 for news and drone footage.

  • @bambamnj
    @bambamnj 4 роки тому +26

    OMG I know the person who put the sign up had good intentions but... you never nail something onto a tree, they might end up killing the tree or if the tree lives it will actually end up growing over the sign to the point the sign will be embedded into the tree. I've seen people do this with wire fencing where they affix the fence to trees and then 10 years later the fence is embedded into the trees.
    Nice job again and the beaver shots were cool.

    • @gothicphoenix3246
      @gothicphoenix3246 3 роки тому +5

      nailing or stapling something to a tree or even carving your initials into it wont kill it, harm it yes. the only way to really kill a tree without chopping it down would be taking a blade and carving around the circumference of it. underneath the bark is another layer where the nutrients taken from the soil gets taken up and distributed to the rest of the tree itself. that part is like literally like the blood system that brings nutrients and such throughout your body. like i said earlier, you carve around the circumference of the tree and cutting through that layer. and you have killed the tree with minimal effort. also theres a chemical used that comes in either an pressurized can where you can spray it into the tree itself, or a bucket where you can brush it onto the parts that are harmed. its for exactly that situation. like for instance a moose, deer, or elk comes along and dmgs a tree that you want kept around on your property. you can use that to save the tree(s) that were harmed from said animal(s). you can find it at nurseries or online.

    Im thinking that it may be useful to have one of those long-reach nets? Kind of like the swimming pool ones but the net being tight at the end and not loose?
    May be useful for those cases where theres a build up of dirt on the surface, you can grab the algae in the back with the net before cleaning the grate so that you don't clean up something that will get clogged back up instantly, like the algae on the left? Just a thought :)

    I know this drain (our favorite drain!) has been replaced, but as I watch this I keep thinking what a pity it was that the grate couldn't be lifted with a jack or pry bar or something. The pond scum could've rushed through with the surge of water, rather than getting stuck on the grate. Oh well, it's all water through the grate now... 😁 Thanks!!! 👋🏼✌🏽

    I’ve watched this particular video before and I’m back again. It is one of my favorite ones. I especially appreciate the way Post explains the reasons the clogs formed and what it takes to prevent them. He is a force to be reckoned with when he finds an area that is life threatening. He will contact the department which should be responsible for caring for that area and keep calling until measures are taken to correct the issue. He receives no compensation for what he does nor does he accept offers of help from his followers. I’ve never seen anyone, in this “modern” era, who even comes close to who Post is or what he does.

      The only way I have found to support Post in what he does is to purchase shirts. They are excellent quality.

    Simple un clog today helps keep the drains working week depending on locations. Stuff that blocks drains being algae, pine needles clups,
    Leaves, sometimes trash sticks

    Hi! I’m from the UK, I just would like to say that what you’re doing @post10 is very admirable! You obviously have the safety of people using flooded roads at your heart and care for the property of people that gets flooded by the Beaver activity. It’s such a shame that the town and county authorities don’t seem to care about the issues that you find. I suppose it comes down to the financial cost ultimately! Very, very well done! 👍🏻

    This drain needs a lip made of screen, hardware cloth that would keep the sludge off the main grate or a floating boom made of bottles to keep it out. The lake is an old and has an oxygen debt. If it had more water flowing in over rock rapids or a wind powered oxygen stirrer it wouldn't make so much agal bloom. Grass carp love that stuff and sometimes they are stocked to clean out ponds and lakes. Thanks for your channel. I enjoy it.

      I'd pick maybe ''Sludge Slime and the Whirlpools'' but Whirlpool Sludge works for me. I remember Sludge worked on a demo recording with Lou Reed back in '69 at the Chelsea Hotel in New York but Andy Warhol vetoed the use of the name. He later withdrew his objection and settled on Campbells soup as his main theme. Sludge and the Whirlpools received no royalties from Lou Reed after the demo recording but managed to appear on the liner notes of Lous Coney Island Baby album in 1976....tho' my memory might be a bit sludgy.

    Love beavers cool little critters, i think theyve recently released some beavers into the wild here in the UK. It'll be nice to see beavers in the wild here again but it might be a while before i see one myself, they need to start spreading and breeding across the country before i get to see one wild anyway.

    You should get a net that has roughly the same size holes as the grate so that every time you come you can just pull the new up and dump it off to the side, it wouldn’t get everything but it would make your job a lot easier.
