    Nice work! Next time when you do scallops I suggest plunging with the end mill instead of side milling into the knob. For six scallops the collet block is probably the fastest method. If you want an odd number of scallops, say 5 or 7, then you can use the bolt pattern function of your DRO.

      Thankyou!! It’s definitely been on my list, I have only made scalloped knobs once since making this video, and I got slack and used a ball mill on its side, but I am curious to see how good I can get the finish from plunging, but thanks for the tip!!

    Beautiful job; they came out great. We shared this video on our homemade tool forum last week 😎

    They look really great! You got me wanting to make a couple of them.

      Hey man Thankyou! And why not! They are fun to make and handy to have around. Thanks for checking it out! 🙏

    I have a book with a lot of mechanical things, like tolerances and what kind of fit they make. Book don't tell you how particular fit "feel", this will come with practice, but are really helpful to have that kind of info on hand. Sadly for you it's in polish, so I haven't title for you 😅
    Also, what are good and what not. I learn precious mindset from one artist (North of the Border), things that you made aren't only good, they are "good enough". It really help to learn, especially if you are perfectionist with OCD hunger that cannot be satisfied 😆

      @nomadhandcrafted  3 місяці тому +1

      The good enough thing is a problem for me 😂 but having a deadline of making videos helps you to accept things and move on the the next project 😂 thanks for checking it out!!

    What you are looking for
    is fits and limits. Machinery handbook has a good section on these

      I’m actually yet to get a copy, but it’s high on my list. I enjoy the struggle of feeling things out but I’m sure it would help get a lot closer a lot faster. Thanks for checking it out 🙏

      @@nomadhandcrafted Machinery's Handbook is great but a better workshop option is the Engineers Black Book (Total Tools carries it in Oz) There is a few pages on fits and tolerances. Nice job on the clamps too 👍

      @nomadhandcrafted  4 місяці тому

      Ah that’s cool, Thankyou, slackness is literally the only reason I haven’t ordered a machinist handbook, but if there’s an excuse to go to total tools, I’m in 😂 and thanks mate, appreciate you checking it out 🙏

    Great build man. Those are some pretty cool clamps.

    Use a bolt hole circle calculator online, or there is usually a button on the dro that will also do a bolt hole circle.

      Hey man thankyou! I'm pretty chuffed with how they turned out!

  • @ColCurtis
    @ColCurtis Місяць тому +1

    I'm not sure about this case, but engine bearings have about 0.001" of oil clearance per 1" of pin diameter. So you could probably have gone tighter, but tighter tolerance is harder to produce, so 0.004" is probably fine.

    Great video, I love the spirit just keep moving ahead no matter the problem at hand. Of course this does lead us to one very simple problem. Where is the shop tour? Mill, metal lathe, where the hell did this come from? Keep up the good work...

    • @nomadhandcrafted
      @nomadhandcrafted  6 місяців тому

      Thanks man! Those machines have been there the whole time, I use the mill from time to time, but the lathe I’ve basically only ever used to make things “round” and it’s always been my intention to learn to use them properly, maybe we can get a shop tour at 1000 subs 😉😂 thanks mate, I appreciate you following along

  • @ColCurtis
    @ColCurtis Місяць тому +1

    You could also plunge cut instead of using the side of the end mill

    • @nomadhandcrafted
      @nomadhandcrafted  Місяць тому +1

      I have learned a lot since this one, I would defiantly plunge and use the bolt pattern on the dro these days, but thanks for checking out the video!

  • @radientracing3628

    for the jaws, why don't you drill a hole in through the brass then cut it in half? Just a thought

    • @nomadhandcrafted
      @nomadhandcrafted  4 місяці тому

      That’s a fair point! If I was making any more than 2 clamps I would probably square the whole brass bar, then drill into it on the lathe, and then just slice off the individual pads, but everything seems easier in hindsight 😂 thanks for checking it out!

      Thanks mate, balancing audio has been tricky for me, but I think I have it a fair bit better in all of my videos after that one, it’s hard to know exactly how it sounds on every device when produced. But thanks for the feedback 🙏

    Dude , can you share the dimensions, I’d like to make some

    • @nomadhandcrafted
      @nomadhandcrafted  5 місяців тому

      Yeah sure, is there anything specifically? I didn’t really do any proper drawings, but still have some measurements written down, if you give me a bit of a list I’ll get some together

    You should google engineering limits and fits. That gives you all the info in a chart. Then you will be sorry you asked.

    • @nomadhandcrafted
      @nomadhandcrafted  День тому

      Since then I have grabbed myself a copy of machinery’s handbook, I know exactly what you mean 😂😂

  • @davidchavez81
    @davidchavez81 5 місяців тому +1

    Honestly, being an engineer would most likely make you worse at making those. Also, getting all into fits and tolerances can be educational, but testing it and seeing what you like is the best way to go in the end anyways.

    • @nomadhandcrafted
      @nomadhandcrafted  5 місяців тому

      I completely agree. There is something different about simply figuring things out and seeing what works, and not being limited to what your "supposed" to do. Thanks for checking out the video, I really appreciate the feedback
