  • Hello beautiful beings ✨, I'm back with a review of the Neopastel Oil Pastels. 🖍 I'm trying them out while making an artwork. If you have these yourself let me know what you think! If there's other brands you love I'm super curious to hear about them. Anything else about oil pastels is also welcome, love hearing about your experiences. 👽 I hope you enjoy! 💜🌞
    I've also started a monthly newsletter on Substack in which I want to share my more in-depth experiences as a neurodiverse creative. 👀 My first post is already published and it's about (scary) new beginnings. If you're interested, go have a look: roosvandermeij...

    I have worked with Caran d'Ache since 30 years and their hardness is not a problem but an asset; the pigment spreads well well because it is really well pigmented and to wear them out you really have to paint a lot with them. A tiny bit of material makes a large surface area if you blend or add transparent media or another color... In short, you have to learn how to use it: this brand is killer.

      Totally agree with your opinion. The best pigmented oil pastels

    I received a set of 96 neopastels for my birthday and was glad to see your review of them before I started swatching and playing with them so I knew what to expect. Great video and cool design!

    The colors in this set are so fun, and it looks like your doodle was fun to make too!

    I use the gallery and neopastel together. I find them to be similar in a lot of ways. I can't replace colors of the mungyo as I use them though. At least with the neopastels, I can buy them open stock.

      They definitely are! I do find the gallery slightly softer which is something I prefer, but like you said I also can't get replace them which is definitely a major downside. They're both very good though. Thanks for your comment!

      I also use them together🤗because sometimes I need creamier texture and sometimes more sharp strokes 👌

    9:38 for base layer there is a much more affordable option than this super expensive Neopastel: Royal Talens Van Gogh. Surprisingly, this affordable oil pastel product (Van Gogh) has lightfastness information printed on the sticks, and for base layer it is absolutely usable. As for Mungyo oil pastels, they are super affordable, fantastic, but since they are not tested for lightfastnes they cannot be regarded as "professional artist" grade product, they are fantastic for "hobby artist" artwork pieces.

    going to receive same set tomorrow) looking forward to it after your video. Caran D'ache is pretty pricy, but it is of professional quality. If to sell art or participate in exhibitions, selling to museums it's better to use this and Sennelier. Because Mungyo has no info on their pigments and lightfastness.

      Exactly, a major reason to use this super pricey product. Even Sennelier is less expensive at least at Jacksons. However, surprisingly the super inexpensive Royal Talens Van Gogh (Made in China) oil pastels have lightfastness info, too, so When I need an inexpensive lightfastness tested oil pastel for base layer, Royal Talesn Van Gogh is a great option.

    The Neocolor pastel is worthy buying from every penny, they are waxy quality but not as linseed oil like Sennelier, even less than Mungyo Gallery and Hashi! They are a bit harder just like Cray-Pas Expressionist squares oil pastel, with more quality binding! Indeed I am agreed with you fully! From Quebec in Canada 🇨🇦, 😊❤

    Re: the hardness, I heard that neopastels and gallery were similar hardness. I was just gonna get neopastels eventually, but with your review now I kinda wanna get both😅

    • @roosvandermeijs
      @roosvandermeijs  Рік тому +1

      hahah, I get that. I don't know how much each of them cost over where you live but the gallery is definitely the cheaper option of the two (at least over here) and quality wise I'd say they're very similar, gallery being the softer one of the two, but only slightly. A very good point that was made in another comment is that it seems to be harder to replace gallery whereas the neopastels are available individually. Either way I don't think you can go wrong with either of them, really love them both, I get that makes for a hard choice haha🥲

      I have had Mungyo and they were really easy to blend and I like the muted colors. I now have Neopastels and I struggle with them..they are very hard to blend. The colors are very bright too, not ideal for what I like to produce. I am actually considering going back to Mungyo and/or Sakura Cray Pas Expressionist.
