    There's another difference that's important for adult colouring. The Lyra ones are more like an actual watercolour and the Neocolor II more a waxy gouache, making the Lyra ones better for layering coloured pencils over them. Many pencils don't work well over the Neocolor II, unless you dilute them heavily with water. So maybe you can add such test when comparing those other ones?

    • @ColorfullyOptimistic
      @ColorfullyOptimistic  Рік тому +5

      Interesting. I've never had issues using pencils on top of my dissolved Neo2. So it is good to know.

    • @RamoArt
      @RamoArt Рік тому +2

      I've experienced the same issue. Spray fixative can help that a bit, if you ever need to layer pencils on top of a heavy application of neocolors.

      @Kyomiibrown Рік тому +1

      As a realistic artist who also works in mixed media, I have never experienced an issue using pencils over neocolor 2…maybe it’s the pencil brand you are using or the paper? Neither do I find them waxy when diluted. I can also layer no problem. I only use 300gsm cotton watercolour paper with them usually.

    • @DieterPrivate
      @DieterPrivate Рік тому +1

      @@Kyomiibrown no, I believe it's because I use them very thickly. When used that way, they even work on Amazon paper. But then, due to the thicker layer, only Posca Pencils work a bit on them, as it's very waxy.

      This is a great comment and I thought it was just my imagination- I love my neo 2 but have this trouble with them. I will have to check out Lyra because I am ALWAYS looking for a glazing medium and seems like Lyra would do well and pencil can go on top. I like that it is less saturated than neo 2 because it is really hard to tone that down after the fact in a book. I do go though cans of fixative but would like to find ways around it as it curls the edges

    I have the art creations watersoluble oil pastels. I think they're more similar to the mungyos. I live in the Netherlands, art creations is widely available. The lady in my local art shop recommended them as a budget version of the neocolours. I do really want to try the neocolours too, to get the more crayon feel.

    Thanks Kori for doing this video it's very helpful. I have the mangyo Gallery watercolor crayons, would love to try the neo color ii, but here in New Zealand they super expensive. Even open stock they $4.80 each New Zealand dollars at one art shop, the 30 set at same art shop is $127.99 Don't think Amazon US or Australia ship them to New Zealand, plus there's the exchange rate. So will stick to the ones I have for now since I'm on a benefit am not working.

    $54.00 wtf! They used to be less than $20.00. I bought three sets: the pearlescent, the water soluble and the regular oil pastels and got all three for less than $50.00. They really jumped up in price.
    The pearlescent are my favorite. I can't tell you how much joy they have brought me and the granddaughters in creating whimsical magical fairy princess lands.

    I thought me, T and Lindsay the frugal crafter were the only 3 sets Lyra had sold their water soluble crayons 🤣. I haven’t had a chance to use them, but I’ve swatched them and I like them. Of course I want the Caran d Ache but light fastness is not a concern for me. Great video, these comparisons are so useful 😍. Hello Kori, this is a very informative vid. In response to one of the commenters, I too, have the Faber-Castell Gelatos and would love to see a comparison. I also have oil pastels that are water soluble called Portfolio, made by Crayola. I have a quick question for you. I went to Hobby Lobby the other day and saw some open stock Faber-Castell coloring pencils for $1.49 each their called Goldfaber. Have you ever heard of them? And if you did are they anything like the Polys? I bought six, one was an aquarelle, which I picked up by mistake. I swatched them on regular paper. They felt smooth. Looking forward to your next comparison. 👍👍💞🙏🏽
