    Jason, you have no idea how important your ratings are! I include your rating with other (well known whisky YTbers) to get a best combined average.
    Keep doing what you are doing mate!
    Cheers.

    Really keen to get my teeth into this. £80 a nudge high but it's much less cynical than their last attempt. My favourite Mortlach is still in the hands of theWhiskyRev. A Signatory SV Cask Strength 20yo.
    Thanks for the shout out and wrt the F&F16 - already got one busted open for you buddy! It's here when you are. (Did you say the beast had "puppies?" 😄 Awesome!)

      Hahahaha I did say the beast had puppies lol. I'm sending some up to you tomorrow and I can imagine being Signatory as they have some seriously stella casks and bottlings. Very welcome Roy, thank you for the continual inspiration to keep me at it, I look forward to visiting you in Glasgow again soon.

    I'm looking forward to this making it's way here... The only Mortlachs that I have had so far were the Rare Old and the G&M15. That's all I could get. I really like Glenfarclas 15...

    • @JasonWhiskyWise

    Sounds like this is the one to buy of the new core range to me $100 on the US Total Wine website just have to get my local one to stock it. Cheers. Oh and my go to sherry bomb so far is the Aberlour A'bunadh

    • @JasonWhiskyWise
      @JasonWhiskyWise  5 років тому +1

      Ahh the A'Bunadh is a spectacular whisky but its a shame its pricing has gone through the roof here in the UK, this is a great sherried monster to have and I hope you enjoy it when you get one.

    • @DonnerPassWhisky
      @DonnerPassWhisky 5 років тому +1

      @@JasonWhiskyWise Yes Abunad is still $72 near me but perhaps when stocks are depleted the price will increase here too.

    Have not tasted many Mortlachs but the single cask Glendronachs definitely ring my sherried whisky bell for me! This one sounds amazing though

    • @JasonWhiskyWise

      It is and I understand what you mean with the GlenDronach Single Casks but some of their prices are becoming ridiculously expensive for me.

    Can't get enough of that sweet malty FIRST!

    • @AdelphosHume
      @AdelphosHume 5 років тому

      My favorite Mortlach was the 18 y. o. from the previous line. I had a chance to attend a Diageo tasting of the previous core expressions, and the 18 was the sweet spot for me. I'm also found of the Gordon and Macphail 15 y. o. Mortlach. I wish I could find more independent bottlings of it.

    • @JasonWhiskyWise

    Horst just did a review of this. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll see the F&F return again. Glad they went back to 70 cl instead of 50 cl. £80 is not too expensive. Still hanging on to my G&M 19 yo., oaky not sherried, though earthy notes.

    • @JasonWhiskyWise
      @JasonWhiskyWise  5 років тому

      Yeah I just saw Horst review where he kept moaning a lot which is a indicator he likes it a lot lol, I haven't come across the 19yo but will keep an eye for it, thanks for watching H. Hemphill!

    I am about 3/4’s of the way through this bottle and I love it! I really thought it was fresh and fruity and the price was right. I would definitely buy this again!

    Wow, given your animation and enthusiasm when describing the whisky, I was expecting a higher mark. Haven't tried a Morthlach, but my sherry bomb of choice is the Glendronach 18 or the Tamdhu Cask. It seems like the special release whiskys the the F&F and Feis Isle malts are special because of the rarer higher quality casks that more expensive than can be used for core ranges???? Sounds great and will put it on the list for someday will try and find. Good job Jason. Was glad you reviewed this series as I was curious if they lived up to the hype surrounding Mortlach. Wasn't Ralfy's only 95 rating a Mortlach?

    • @JasonWhiskyWise
      @JasonWhiskyWise  5 років тому

      Thank you very much Everwind, I wanted to give it higher but it was very close to pushing a slightly higher score. It might have been as i'm still working through all of Ralfy's content and he has a lot to catch up on but I'll have a look.

      Some superb whiskies there and my personal go to at the min is definitely the Tamdhu Batch Strength 2 as I tried the 3 and wasn't too impressed.

    I've very much enjoyed the GM 15 and occasionally the GM 21 Mortlachs over the last few years, but now that I've tried the new OB Mortlach 16 from the Beast of Dufftown I'm even more impressed! Yep, Jason, you're right, it could've done even better with 46% ABV but it's still a damn good dram and deserving of your 88 points. Many thanks for this mini series. Looking forward to the review of the 20yo too. Cheers!

    Sounds good though.....It's hard to answer to first question (my favorite MORTLACH) but I'll say out of 19 expressions I tried so far (had to look at my notes before answering!) I'll go for an indie 32 ans (Distilled 1970-Bottled 2002), GORDON & MacPHAIL, bottling, a small batch of Sherry Casks, at 43 %
    -Mr Banana's question: "My favorite Sherry Monster" so far ? I could name a bunch (There has to be in the list some KARUIZAWA, BOWMORE, GLENFARCLAS, LAGAVULIN, PORT ELLEN, etc...but I'll name one from my TOP 70 whiskies listed on my website, one that also I heard the story behind it by its creator in person after an interview (which is always great) so yes it's the SPRINGBANK 12 yo "100 PROOF" Sherry casks, reduced from around 60+ % to 57 % by adding some old around 30 yo (60's distilled) "Local Barley" expressions ! An absolute stunner....Rated at the max I could 100/100 & Beyond any Category ! I tasted it twice but alas got no bottle or sample of it...

    • @JasonWhiskyWise
      @JasonWhiskyWise  5 років тому +1

      Thanks Greg, wow you've tasted a lot of Mortlach's I think one of my favourites was a indie aswell which was from the 50's but its something which is way out of my price range. thanks for answering both comments, Slainte!

      You"re very welcome, @@JasonWhiskyWise as always.....me do not have a MORTLACH in my collection yet (still have a few priorities in terms of whiskies in my wishlist before this distillery) but I'd like to have at least one, and affordable, so having seen your reviews & a few others I think this new 16 yo could be a good start....Slainthe !

    You know who doesn't like the F&F at all?
    Serge Valentin.
    Then again, I've realised over the years that some of his scoring(s) are frankly just bizarre.

    • @vishnuquick
      @vishnuquick 5 років тому

      bizarre indeed, and he has his share of bias too. He just despises red wine casks for instance, and that reflects in his scores as well.

    • @BravingTheOutDoors
      @BravingTheOutDoors 5 років тому

      @@vishnuquick Actually, the "straw" for me was his score of 84 for Glengoyne 21.
      Sorry but that's just ridiculous.
      Scoring is dumb in general. It doesn't work at all.
      If anything it provides a disservice.
      And, scoring the content based on the price is even dumber. Sorry, it's just what I think. I don't mean to offend anyone (including Jason) but 99% of the time the price(s) people mention are anywhere between 40% and up to 60% more than I spend on the same bottles and I live in the UK as well. People just don't know how to shop.
      This is in part why I'm not subscribed to anyone but Ralfy. I find most people's scoring quite retarded and in general anyone who hasn't spent several weeks with a bottle has nothing to say that will be of any interest to me... and that is truly the nicest way I can put it. If I actually explained what I think in greater detail it'll get quite insulting, pretty quickly.

    • @vishnuquick
      @vishnuquick 5 років тому

      @@BravingTheOutDoors I kinda agree with that. Sometimes I find it difficult to understand what the reviewer is trying to convey with his scores. I have seen rave reviews and mediocre scores. And what is the difference between an 84 and an 85??. It has to be a reviewer's psychological thing that just doesnt make much sense to me. Then there are reviewers with bias. One thing is for sure, the kind of stuff they dont like is perenially condemned in their scoring book!. I don't rate Serge highly when it comes to his whisky scores. I read his blog just to keep a track of the plethora of expressions he gets to review. I Never take his scores seriously.
      I am not particularly fond of factoring in price while giving a score either. Score the whisky if you want to and not the god damn price!!

    • @ZDWildCamping
      @ZDWildCamping 5 років тому

      Interesting discussion with some strong opinions.
      I will only add this - I too find scoring limited and I too dislike any scoring that involves price.
      This is actually a topic I plan to make a video on myself but as you both eluded, it’s not easy finding the right way to address it without coming off as overly challenging.
      No one wants to be an antagoniser but at the same time there is no point sharing opinions if they’re not honest either!
      You definitely raised some points that made me think about what I want to address.
      Cheers.
