  • This is my second attempt at an acoustic guitar. It’s a lot better than the first. Now I’m ready to build the third!
    I used a mantle from the neighbor’s trash and an old desk I found for the body. The neck is from a bed frame I got from Craigslist.
    Short scale acoustic guitar build.

    i do not fear bolt on necks...my Bourgeois has one and that guy may be the best builder in the US

      Wow! Enjoy that guitar man. Bourgeois are not cheap! I did this bolt-on because I’m just getting started and too scared to try a dovetail! It’s plenty stable. If Dana Bourgeois uses it it’s good enough for me!

    Well done, reclaimed lumber is aged which is what you want in making an instrument. The old parlor style Martin's had a larger sound hole. It makes a great sound.

      Thanks! The larger sound hole was a bit of an accident but I like the way it turned out.

    • @dannylewisguitars

      The back and sides are cherry from an old desk. I’m not entirely sure what the top is. It’s definitely similar to spruce if it’s not spruce! It’s got very tight grain and it’s very light.

    • @dannylewisguitars

      The back and sides were definitely not quarter sawn! Neither was the neck. The top was fairly well quarter sawn. I thought it would matter more on the neck, but the rift sawn maple was pretty stable and needed very little help from the truss rod so far.

    That’s a really interesting way to do the neck joint do you find that it’s strong enough to handle the tension of the neck?

    • @dannylewisguitars
      @dannylewisguitars  Рік тому +2

      I certainly didn’t invent this style of joint. Bolt-on necks are pretty popular these days, they make it easier to do neck resets if your guitar ever needs one. Companies like Taylor do a style of bolt-on neck. I stole mine from another UA-cam video I think! I’ve been playing it for about six months and so far it’s fine!
