Loved watching this video! I am new to freehand quilting and have been trying to teach myself by watching UA-cam videos and much practice. Thank you for taking the time to film and comment as you work. Much appreciated!
I am on the table top hoop cutie frame with a mid arm. I also stabilize as I go - usually stitch in the ditch on blocks :) so great to watch this video Susan ! I love those feathers .
I am a brand new quilter I have a Bernita Q 16+ and I stitched my first feathers in the last 48 hours. I was following one of your edge to edge feathers spineless on paper, which was the beginning of getting better shaped feathers. Thank you !! Wish I could send you a picture because I’m kind of proud of my first efforts
Susan, I loved both your free hand quilting and you ruler quilting process. Looking over your shoulder and listening to your thoughts is invaluable :) Thank you
I know this is months old. I just found it here on You Tube. I love your Templates and marking ideas. Wish I'd found this a while ago when I was doing my quilt labyrinth which has many angle corners. Your customers quilt is beautiful and your quilting was perfect!
Thank you for doing these videos. I so enjoy hearing tips like threading, tension, needles, and how to find burrs on guides. Explaining your reasons for thread paths or order of stitching is helpful, also. Keep up the good work! This is the 1st video of yours I've seen. It's amazing this education is a free gift for the taking! Thanks so much!
Enjoyed watching this "live" on replay. I especially liked seeing how you did the borders by rolling the quilt forward and back. Learning a lot! Thanks for sharing.
I just found your UA-cam channel and am now watching your videos. These are fabulous! Thank you. I bought a Babylock Gallant last month, my first stand up longarm, and find your tips and tricks so helpful.
Hi, Happy to have found you and looking forward to more. You mentioned an Amazon link, but I can’t find it. I’m hoping to find the side clamps you used and the type of needle that pulled that dark thread out. Thanks in advance
I totally agree with outlining the center star sections. Do it all the time! Also wing it a lot. After drawing feathers so many times I felt like I was drawing them in my sleep…..I feel very confident with stitching them with just the chalk spine. Thank you for confirming it takes lots of practice!
I just watched this today! Lots of great tips and great tutorial. But my question is... Where can I find the pics of the completed quilt? I have not been able to find them. If you could provide a link that would be awesome!
I don’t have an easy one to give you….perhaps check out my Instagram account near the episode dates. Sorry I can’t help better….this was several years ago.
Usually 10 or 11 per inch. Manual speed varies depending on the task, for this perhaps 1300? My machine measures in stitches per minute, some measure other ways.
Using leftovers from bar soap such as Dove makes good markers, just sharpen them to your desire, no mess, brushes away. Sharpened Soapstone sticks or strips work well also

You’re welcome! As you can see, I’ve done lots of episodes on lots of different designs, and continue to do live streams a couple of times a month.
I can't thank you enough for sharing the three-feather border connect tip. Everyone struggles marrying feathers seamlessly.
Oh, I love the fabric in this quilt. Thank you for sharing
im so glad.i found you!!!!

Absolutely loved this. Thank you.

Hi Jen, here's the link: *amzn.to/45BghBB* I've gone and added it to the episode as well.

Love this real time quilting. Love you for doing this. Thank you. Could you show how you treat a thread break and how you restart the line of stitches
Yes! Good point, and I’ll try to do that on the next episode👍🏻
You can use a candle warmer to keep your coffee warm.
Thanks for the tip! You guys are so thoughtful❤️
Where do you find the pictures you talk about of the finished designs? Could you show us the back of the quilt to see the design?
Follow my social media pages for photos, which often show the back as well. I'm @stitchedbysusan on Instagram and Facebook.
What is the name of the quilt design you are working on?
Hello! What kind of needle did you used to pull the purple thread out from under the quilt top? Thanks!
It’s called Snag Nab It, I think by Dritz.

I realize I just re-posted a few on Feb 3. Here’s a link: instagram.com/p/C25iGWdpJ67/?igsh=MTVpem44dzEwNGxnaA==
How many stitches per inch do you do? Also your machine speed is set at? Thanks love your videos.
Usually 10 or 11 per inch. Manual speed varies depending on the task, for this perhaps 1300? My machine measures in stitches per minute, some measure other ways.
What are the clamps you use. Pretty coollooking
They're the Red Snapper brand.
Do you have a link to find the needle you used to get the stray thread out?
Using leftovers from bar soap such as Dove makes good markers, just sharpen them to your desire, no mess, brushes away. Sharpened Soapstone sticks or strips work well also
Did you do the binding??
This was a couple years ago, but I don’t believe so.
Hi Susan! What is tge needle you used to remove the dark thread called? Do you have an Amazon link for it? Thanks! Kelly
It’s a Snag-Nab-It by DRITZ. If you hop into the notes of some more recent episodes, you’ll find lots of links including that one 👍🏻
Question? Did you purchase the needle to pull the dark thread or did you just rough it up with sandpaper or something similar? I'm intrigued.
I purchase it. It’s by DRITZ.
Beautiful quilting❣️ what type of thread are you using top and bottom?
I have Isacord 40-weight 100% poly in both.
Just discovered your videos. What is the name of your ruler?
It’s a 9” straight made by A-1. There’s a link in the notes below the UA-cam episodes.
Thank you. So helpful. Who makes your machine and frame?
My whole system is Gammill. I was fortunate to find a great used one👍🏻
@@StitchedBySusan What is the throat size?
@@pierce_st_quilting 26”
Feathers are not all the same in nature anyway.
So true!!
