I love watching you quilt. It helps to see how you move around the quilt. I also enjoyed the Master Class. It taught me step by step how the designs are formed. Both are very beneficial. It helps to be able to watch it over again.
Thank you, as a new longarmer all your videos are so useful.
I wish you were on in 2016 because thats when I got my Pfaff Powerquilter P3. I"be been doing meander all this time. This feather video shows more of feathers which I am going to try. God love you and Dave. Men quilt too. Therapy for PTSD, OCD, etc after 10 years in the Army (Desert Storm, Desert Shield). 2005 I wanted to die. I had vocational drafting in HS. Xmas of 2005 I turned on PBS and started with the Eleanor Burns Quilt in a day. Been hooked since. I pray you and Dave soar to the popularity pole. I love you both and family too. Not to forget Dan's wonderful music.
Watching you is a great education, I watch your videos every dsy.
I love this type of learning I learn from watching over and over thank you so much
You are so welcome
It is very useful to watch you maneuver around the quilt. Sometimes it appears that you may get stuck, then you gracefully move out of "harms way." Such a good learning lesson.
It's true...it's an ever-changing landscape 😄 I just pause, and then decide how to get out of it.
I absolutely LOVE feathers! Thank you for this tutorial on how you do your overall feathers.
You’re welcome! If you’re interested in a free class about this design, there’s a link in the description of all recent episodes.
Learned a lot. Thank You!!!
From Florida. I quilt for myself mainly. I have HQ Capri stationary machine and love it.
It's mesmerizing to watch you quilt! I love this feather design. I'm amazed that you can talk and quilt at the same time and not lose track of where you are going. Beautiful!!
It’s mostly familiarity - I’ve quilted this design many times😄
You’re so talented 👏🏼🌷
Aw, thanks!
I love watching your videos! It really helps me to see what I'm doing wrong. I watched you quilting paisleys and now I am able to quilt them without it looking like a mess.
Wonderful!
This is perfect! Valuable and useful because it’s free and you do enough narrating to help us follow along.
I’ve been long arm quilting on an HQ Amara for three years. I don’t have the computerized system, I enjoy ruler work and I free hand everything. I tried converting a pantograph into a stencil once and ended up free handing the panto design after the first few stitches sent the chalk fluttering in the air like a visual effect one might see in a film. I quilt mostly for myself, meaning I quilt for others by proxy. My husband calls them charitable works but I call them gifts. On the occasion I make a commissioned quilt from scratch.
Thank you Susan and Dave for sharing your talents for us!
Glad you found it helpful! Sounds like you keep very busy with your quilting😄
I stuck it out and watched/listened to the entire video. I'm afraid I'm going to miss some of your great FMQ tips if I leave early!! Thanks for sharing your talents with us.
Thanks for sticking around! You never know when they’ll show up😂
Me too,… I am working my way through every thing!!! So helpful !!!
watching you do this very large quilt allows us to see your rhythm as you quilt.
Is that helpful? It makes for a very long show….but it is, after all, reality😉
Just got my first longarm machine a couple of weeks ago and your series has been SO helpful. I've been free motion quilting on a domestic for years but moving fabric versus a machine has it's own learning curve. The only thing I didn't realize (it was an impulsive purchase) is that 15 inches doesn't mean 15 inches of quilting space.
I have just found you 9/7/2022. I loved this video. I just got a longarm. I previously did all my quilting by hand. I love just watching the quilting videos on UA-cam and go to websites for instructional videos. I am glad I found you. I subscribed and liked and will watch them all. Patti Dean Ft Worth Texas
Thank you very much for sharing your beautiful talents. I live in Missouri, I started my business 5 years back. The 1st 3 I quilted on a Bernina 180 . Shoving a Quen size through that small arm area was a learning experience. I bought my Bernina in May 2021. Thank you to your husband for the awesome job he is doing.
Love your CHATTY videos. So interesting. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much
Love these feathers
Such beautiful work.
Just amazing. My feathers now don't look like a 4 year old with a blind fold on did them. Thank you so much for this
Its very helpful, want so badly to be able to do this dexign
Thank you for sharing your talents! This is an awesome video!
I’m watching all of your videos. Hoping to take masterclass but not sure how it will fit in schedule. I just love that I think of a question and you always address it within the next 5 minutes. Thank you Susan and Dave for all your great videos.
I have been very helped by your "Live and Unscripted" sessions.- - VERY much!
I so appreciate the long stretches of time to observe what you are actually doing, so my brain can process the process.
I will probably never be a professional on any level, but being able to watch more than a ten minute clip is so very encouraging, as are the comments you make along the way and the questions that are asked and your responses.
I have a retro Singer (someone elongated an old Singer) with no stitch regulator - - and, having found you yesterday on Roku, and then coming to the net to be able to actually see the series, I have learned that I have been moving my machine waaayyy! too fast (thank you for that) ....
As a matter of fact, I was going to buy a used Bailey's from a quilt shop (mostly because of the stitch regulator) but am having second thoughts. The Singer would be very manageable if I slowed down.
I really appreciate your generosity (and, your fine producer!). Thank you.
Thanks, Mary, for all the kind words! It is truly my hope that seeing things in real time is helpful. So I appreciate knowing that it’s coming across well. And I’ll pass on the compliments to Mr Producer😉
WOW! a reply, even! How cool is that????
You have the gift of teaching (as well as quilting, obviously), and because you enjoy what you are doing, you are a good teacher. I truly appreciate all the effort that goes into what you do.
I just recently came across your live and unscripted videos. They are amazing and very informative. I just recently purchased a long arm that is not computerized. I am struggling as I learn to machine quilt. My last attempt made me think that I may have overstretched with thinking that I could learn this skill. However, your videos have helped me to continue to try. I am sad that I missed this master class on the feather. Hopefully there will be other opportunities. I am very much interested in your master class. Thank you for making such amazing videos. I keep watching all of them.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the sessions! I know how much I would’ve appreciated such a thing when I was beginning, so that’s my motivation😉 There will certainly be more feather webinars, watch for notifications on my newsletter👍🏻
Find the back of thread ripper can force fabric into channel of clamp
It is very useful to watch and almost visit with you as you quilt. I mentioned your you tube site to my Calgary Longarm Quilting group on our zoom meeting this month and one woman said she had a class from you and found it very worthwhile. I am disappointed that I missed your class on the freehand meandering feather but hope to gain enough from this session to try it on my next quilt top.
I’m glad you find these episodes helpful! And I’ll let you in on a little secret - the webinars will happen again😉 Simply join my newsletter for notifications. And thanks for your interest!
What are the bars you're putting on the front roller? Are they magnetic? It appears there is no foot on the machine? I am new to this. Just found out about you from Jo at joscountryjunction. Your voice and manner is so nice.
They are magnetic, yes, the type you’d use for knives in the kitchen. And there is a foot on the machine - it’s called a hopper foot and moves up and down with every stitch. It does not rest on the fabric like a regular presser foot would do on a sewing machine.
Susan, I have watched this video several times. I love the feathers but can't seem to get the hang of them. You said you have a free hand out of the feathers but I can't seem to find it. Is it still available?
Sorry I missed this...if you go to my website, stitchedbysusan.com, you'll get a popup to sign up for the class. It's free but you do need to register so that you have access as often as you like.
I love these! Recently found you, and I've binged so many already. Very peaceful and well done. Learning a lot. Keep it up!
I would like just a sentence or two on how to do it on a domestic with the different designs. Like with this one, is it best to start in the middle or do it in rows (staring on the top) like on a long arm? (Same question on crazy eights pattern.)
I’ll bet perfectly honest - I hardly ever quilt on a domestic any more😉 it seems to me that it would be effective to work in quadrants(ish) and start each one in the center and work to the edge.
Crazy 8s is very much in rows, so I feel like you’d need to do that one in actual rows from one end to the other.
@@StitchedBySusan thank you!! I'll give it a go this week :)
I can also see that I need to change my background music - - Salsa is NOT going to help me slow down.
Mr Unger does a masterful job of keeping things relaxed.
Wow, I never tried feathers without a spine.
Who makes the ices cord thread I have only used Glide please let me know different thread please
Amann USA is the company that makes it. Many fabric stores sell it, but I order the large cones online.
how high is your machine? and i love your quilting.
Do you mean the height of the rails? The front one (commonly called the belly bar) is about 2” above my elbow. So the bottom of it is about the same as the bottom of my elbow. Make sense?😁
Is your backing fabric free floating as well?
No, it is attached to a bar at top and bottom. Many of my videos include the loading process, so you can see that.
I’m wondering what color thread you used on this. It doesn’t show up very much in the blue. Is it light gray?
I’m sorry, I don”t recall which thread I was using🤷🏼♀️
@@StitchedBySusan I listened to the beginning again and you told us in the video. Thanks, I love your videos!
Susan, where are you located?

From Pahrump, nv
I’m guessing I missed the webinar 🥴
yes, but there's another coming up in October - watch my newsletter for the exact date.
I just found you! I just went from a sweet sixteen to a moxie. Am finding out I have a lot to learn and am enjoying watching you! Thank you so much!
So glad you found my little corner of the internet! I currently live-stream the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month. If you subscribe and click the bell, you’ll be notified when I’m LIVE.
This is my first time watching you. I do my FMQ on a sit-down Tiara II. Watching this design has been helpful. I’ve not done spineless feathers, but now I’m inspired to give it a try. Thank you for your calm pleasant atmosphere. Are the webinars available on UA-cam after the fact, or must they be seen live? 🧵🪡
They’re presented live, and then the replays stay up for a few days. And they’re a bit different every time😉
