Jenny and Natalie, this was a wonderful video! It reminds me of my mother and me. As an eight and nine year old child in the later 1920’s, my mother embroidered flowers on scraps of muslin that her grandmother brought home from the cotton mill. She said her patterns came from newspapers. When I was a child, I used to admire her pieces of embroidery. When my mother was in her 70’s, I asked her what she had wanted to make with the flowers. She said she wanted to make a quilt with the blocks. I asked her how she imagined it being. She told me she wanted green fabric between the squares. The fabrics were not squares at all. They were just scraps of fabric. I asked her if I could take them with me. I lived in a different state at the time. I went into my first quilt store. The lady there told me to cut them all down to the size of the smallest piece which was about 8 or 9 inches. I had 32 flowers, I cut them all into squares. I picked out a pretty green fabric and natural color muslin. The store lady showed me how to cut the strips. Every time I got to the next step I went back to the quilt store for further instructions. After putting 30 of the squares together, I put a larger green border and an even larger muslin border. I hand quilted it by outlining around the outside of the flowers and then used plastic stencils to quilt the sashings and borders. I presented it to my mother and she had it on top of her bed for a couple of years. She then came to live with us due to Alzheimer’s, at which time my husband made a hanger for it on a large wall. It has been on our wall for close to thirty years in two different houses. At least my mother was able to enjoy it for a few years.

My favorite video EVER. My mother taught me to embroider when I was five or six and of all of the things I've done, it's still my greatest love.
I just freehand wrote Scriptures all over my denim jacket and embroidered them. I wear it proudly.
I have a drawing my mom did years ago. Now I want to embroider one each for my siblings on denim and frame them.
This makes my heart happy. Thank you!

Absolutely Love how you bounce off each other and have such fond Memories of Ingrid. I don't embroider but that kit is the most Darling thing and your whole company should be so proud of themselves. This is an absolutely Heart Warming ,Walk Down Memory Lane and Salute to your Fabulous Grand Mum and Great Grand Mumma. I Love you Guys and of Course Misty too. I LOVE my kit! Beautiful. Easy to understand & use. Yes, I’ve started. One daughter & her two daughters asked, “Who’s that going to be for?” My reply, “Whoever treats me nicest!” What sweet smiles I got! I’ve been hungry for this since “Triple Play: … 3 New Fence Rail Quilts” - Natalie’s fed my soul. You ALL are so talented & diversified. I learned embroidery from Mom, grandmothers, aunts, etc. This daughter & her girls (11 & 14) can do it too! I see it as a skill we are to pass on - to connect lives & loves. I also taught it in Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, & our country. Stitching is a fabulous icebreaker with no language or age barriers! An important skill to enhance so much. And, Mo. Star Quilt Co. cerrtainly enhances my life! Thanks all!

My mother was one of the oldest of 13. A very hard life during the depression. Lots of baby and child care for the oldest girls, as well as cooking and cleaning. A wonderful, patient mother to my brothers and myself. I did a lot of hand embroidery when I was younger but changed to machine embroidery due to arthritis. My granddaughters were over on Monday this week and I pulled out my embroidery floss. The eight year old latched onto the idea of embroidery. I just washed some plain white square dish towels and will be ironing on a design. Can’t wait to show her how to embroidery. The five year old twins might want to join in as well. I’ll remember embroidering with my Great-grandmother when I was 6,7 and 8. It’s a timeless skill.

I learned to embroider from my Mother in grade school. In High School, I worked with my Dad havesting in the summer. I always had a pillowcase that I was working on while I waited for him to come around the field to unload. Later on when I got married, my mother gave me a lot of the sets of pillowcases as a shower gift. I still have a lot of them. I have done dresser scarves that we found unfinished when she passed. The first quilt I made was a sampler. I designed the center block and added mine and my husbands anniversary date in embroidery. Everyone in our family of 8 kids learned to embroider, even the two boys. When we had a blizzard, we would all get a dish towel to put a copy of a piece of fruit on it to keep us busy. I still have a large box with transfer patterns. This brings back so many memories.

This video was perfect timing for me, since I just finished a quilt using blocks that my Swedish grandmother embroidered when she was in her teens or 20s--which would have been in the 1920s or earlier since she was born in 1905. Grandma lived to be 95. She was never a quilter, but gave me the blocks that she had made, and I held on to them for years trying to decide how to put them together. I wish I could include a photo. Each block, 18 in all, looks like a little basket filled with flowers, then has a circle of flowers around it. The quilt turned out so pretty. I too am happy to have an heirloom from my grandma.

I ordered the embroidery kit immediately! I made a quilt out of embroidery kits I ordered from Amazon. I sold it to benefit Operation Christmas Child at my church. I miss that quilt so much. Going to to this one for myself 🥳

Natalie…absolutely mix your embroidery with your great grandmother’s. It would be a blending of the generations and a special nod to your grandma. ❤ I had a pair of jeans as a teen that I embroidered all over them. I absolutely loved those jeans. UPDATE: Maybe initial your blocks so generations to come will know who stitched which ones. And label your quilt!

I'm the same way. In the last week, I have pulled out my cross stitch supplies and amping up my embroidery supplies. Makes me think of my grandma, who taught me to embroidery.

This is just so fabulous! It just thrills me to see such beautiful embroidery and the idea that you're using your grandmother/great-grandmother's designs makes it even more special. As a needleworker I waited for you to remind your viewers to press the embroidery from the reverse side on top of a padded surface to keep the stitches three-dimensional. Maybe next time?

My 80 year old momma embroiders all day, every day. I cherish her pillowcases and table scarves. She embroiders quilt blocks and I turn them into very special quilts! Last year she made over 50 sets of pillowcases. She gives them out for Christmas gifts.

I grew up learning to use my hands and imagination. My grandmother loved my dresser scarves and table toppers. She loved my bright and bold colors embroidering her dresser scarves. I would sit under my mother's sewing table and she would chain piece. As the blocks came off of her tiny sewing table, I would cut them apart and reach behind me, placing them back on her table. Then, putting the front and back together...and I would tie her quilts. These quilts were made to be used. My grandmother would make our bed quilts, and she hand quilted them with her wooden quilt frame... like a giant rectangular embroidery hoop. I remember when she passed, my mother received it. We both must have quilted a hundred quilts on it. I would sew all kinds of Barbie clothes. At that time you could purchase patterns. And I made my own Barbie house with box lids my father brought home from work. They were paper boxes. He would bring home scratch paper. My best friend and I would draw and paint in her garage endlessly. I'm not that old, but we used imagination on a daily basis for play. Quilts could make forts with the swing set and clothes pins. ❤😊

I used to embroider ALL the time! Now I make quilts and cat toys. I don't want to embroider anymore, but this kit is beautiful! Even so, I'm not tempted to buy it. BUT, if one of my nieces ever starts to embroider, I'll be sure to buy one of these kits for her. Thank you so much for sharing your Grandmother with us, and her lovely embroidery! And this quilt too.

I am so excited to start this project. My grandmother taught me to embroider when I was in high school. My every first quilt was made with those squares. 60 years later I can hardly wait for my kit to be delivered. Thank you so very much 🥰
