So happy to have found this video! I purchase my Wireless Pro two months ago and have been struggling with many of these topics... many thanks to you for taking the time to record and share! Cheers, Salud, Skal, and Prrrrrrrrrrost!!
@@GabrielVIP So I'm running a very simple system: my iPhone and my Rode Wireless Pro to record brewery tours. Do you have any videos on how to increase the recording volume when only using an iPhone? I appreciate everything you shared if using a camera, but some of that doesn't necessarily apply with the iPhone set up... Thanks for all you've shared though... I already have learned a lot that simply wasn't explained in any of the online manuals!
Best Wireless Pro video so far! Thanks for sharing your experience. I can see you actually used it and you know the basics about audio. Even the big ones like Tony Northrup just publish pretty useless content as they don't understand audio and recording.
Hey! Thanks my brother. Audio is pretty complicated, especially on UA-cam videos where we need to keep things as simple as possible, as short as possible and without too many details. Is hard but I want to keep things simple and use full :) Thank you!
This helped me so much! The first 3 tips seem so obvious but when I checked my mic, it was backwards facing my body! Thank you again for making this video. We're all updated and ready to rawk!

Thanks for this video Gabriel, well done! I was a victim of the locking collar issue you mentioned. I have other lav mics with a locking collar and they cannot be removed. I had expected the same behavior from the Rode mics. I had no idea that the collar is actually threaded on to the Rode connector and can be removed. As a result the first time I used the lav mic on one of my transmitters the connector did not seat properly. Because my receiver was set to MERGE the transmitters, I quickly looked and saw audio on both left and right channels and did not pay close enough attention to the fact that one of the transmitters was not actually sending audio. As a result I had NO AUDIO at all from one of the transmitters. This collar design is unusual. This not a mistake I will make again. You have some great tips in here, thanks again for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us! By the way I also agree with you request to be able to add a prefix to the file name. I don't like that both transmitters have the same exact file names.
Hey. Thank you my friend. In audio we can do so many mistakes… and bad things can happen even if you have experience. This is why is reccomanded to monitor the audio and check the levels all the time. Thank you for your feedback and I hope you will achieve great results with your system. If you have questions, let me know. Thank you!
Thank you for this guide and sharing some great tips! Eagerly waiting to see more set ups using the wireless pro. May be I don’t need to get the zoom f3 after all 😅
Hey bro. Thank you for your comment. Zoom F3 is another kind of tool. If you want to record an XLR mic, that recorder is the best. If you need a wireless system, this is great. It really depends about your needs. I am passionate about sound recording and I try all kind of recorders and most of the time you don’t need something expensive. If you record for UA-cam, social media etc, you are ok with Wireless PRO in 90% of the situations. Thank you for your feedback :)
Thank you! Glad you like it :) Unfortunately, lavalier mics are omnidirectional. You can't do much about it. If you want something more directional, use a shotgun mic. Or you can try and clean it a little bit in post. But with omnidirectional mics... this is the big problem.
Hey! Glad you like it! It depends! If you have big variations in volume when you speak, keep the dynamic or auto activated. If you speak at a constant volume, keep it off!
Let’s say I have an internal recording that has very loud levels and very quiet levels, can I normalize them and level them off in the rode desktop app?
Great video. Very helpful. I did notice you are recording in SAFETY mode, and those modes receive no mention in your video. SAFETY seems weird to me, why on Earth would anyone use anything but SPLIT? Thanks.
Hello Gabriel, Great video and excellent information. I also use my transmiter as a wireless boom mic , however I use it with the interview handle directly on my boompole, therefore cutting out the extra mike and the cheese bar altogether.
To make sure I know which files are from which transmitter, I’ll do the export feature to two different folders. My TX1 would go to the folder named “left” and my TX2 would go to the folder named “right.” This is probably the best workaround I can do. But for all you pros out there - what do you recommend? Rode needs to make a 32-bit field recorder similar to and better than the Tascam Portacapture X8. That would be truly AWESOME!
Hey. Thank you! Your workflow if great and solves this problem. Thank you for your support. It will be nice to see a 32 bit float recorder from Rode. Maybe something like Zoom F3?
Great teaching on better sound recording. Thanks a lot. I also wish that RODE update the Pro firmware where all recorded data be automatically grouped inside a folder according to their dates and time of recording in order to have a better organization of audio data just as in Zoom audio recorders. Secondly, inbuild battery will surely die with time, so what is the way forward say, in 2 or more years ahead?
Hey bro! Totally agree! I really hope that the file management will be improved in the future. I am sure that is just a matter of time until they will improve and fix some things. Thank you for your supper and comment :)
Mate this is the best video on these mics by far. I haven't watched the others and I don't need to. Question for you, what is the brand of earbuds you're using for monitors? Happy to use an affiliate link. Thank you!
@@codythep Sometimes I use Audio-Technica ATH-M50x but the ear pads are the original ones. That orange fabric on top is from a local store in Romania… is just a peace of fabric that covers the top. I will see if I find it on amazon or something, I will come back with a link.
Hi Gabriel, thank you for this video! Noob question as I'm new to this - I understand that the Rode Wireless Pro does not have active noise cancellation, and the room I record in does occasionally have unexpected background noises. So I'm wondering if the setup you described is enough to deal with that, or do you need to cancel out the noise in post. And if you do, is removing the background noise in post fairly straightforward and reliable?
Hey! This is tricky :)) If you record with noise cancellation and don't like something, that's it! You can't change anything. But, if you worm a little bit and apply noise cancelation when editing your videos, you can choose if you need to apply more or less. In my opinion, it's better to record without and apply it at the editing step but it's extra work to do.
Hey! Almost all settings. I didn't use the app often, but you have everything you need there. And clearly, they are making updates from time to time :)
Hi Gabriel. Thanks for your very helpfull video. Especially how to connect the ring to the lavelier, I was struggling with, which made that I didn't record the audio correctly. I have a question: What do I do to set the correct gain to record on my iPhone 14 pro? I see only camera presets. Or what level should it be on?
Hey. Thank you! Glad you like it. I dodn’t test it that much on iPhone and because you don’t have gain I will keep everything on auto. I will check and try to help you but auto I think is the best.
@@EMWB So, I keep my receiver on manual, at 0db, and the transmitter on Auto or Dynamic. Booth are great. Do some tests before recording something official and see how it works. This is the best option, try and see if the sound is great and record a backup internally to be sure that you will have a good sound :)
Lovely video, thank you Gabriel... so helpful. I bought the wireless go pro for recording a handpan drum in nature... so I want to collect the overall sound and the deep resonance of the instrument too. Do you think the lav mic, or the units on their own, will give the better ambient recording onto an iPhone?
Hey! Glad you like it :) I really don't have experience with handpan drum recordings but if you can position the unit directly with the wind protection close to the drum, I think you will have a good sound. You need to do some tests and see is the transmitter will be better. If you record outside, 100% you need the wind protection.
Great video, great tips! How would you connect a professional grade microphone which has an XLR connector? XLR > 3.5mm or...? Keep it up my brother 😀 Greets from Croatia!
Hey bro! Thank you! Glad you like it :) For an XLR mic I don’t recommend this. You cand use some adaptors BUT! If you have a condenser mic that requires 48v Phantom power, you can’t use it. And I didn’t tested a dynamic mic. Maybe I will try to connect one to se but I don’t think is made for this. For a professional mic I recommend Zoom F3. Is perfect.
Thank you for this amazing guide&tips video! I just bought this mic and when im recording with lav mic, my sound coming too low, and taking outside sounds... made me crazy. do you have any idea why happening this? and any recommend please...
Hey! Follow the steps with the volume adjustments from the tutorial. Maybe you need to increase the volume or your lav mic in on reverse... I can't say if I am not there. Check your levels with the lav mic connected.
I don't have the wireless pro but I always enjoy your tutorials anyway! Here's a question: I have the DJI Mic system, is this worth the change to it if I sell the DJI? I don't use them a ton but they're handy when I do need a wireless mic. Also, second question: when wearing the transmitter on my collar or shirt, every time I move or turn, you can hear the rustling of the shirt etc...its very annoying as it ruins the audio and takes lots of editing time to remove all those sounds...it makes using these a pain. What do you suggest for that?
Hey bro. Thank you for your comment. If you need 32 bit float yes! If you don’t need that, it’s too much effort to sel and buy another one. The difference in quality is there but not that big. Also, change if you use often the lav mic because this has that locking system. DJI doesn’t have that. For the second question…try to use shirts not T-shorts. Lav mics will stay better in a shirt but if you move too much, those annoying sound will still be there. Thank you :)
Thanks for this video! I hate that I have to log into the app for adjusting the mic. I really dont prefer to buy the rode wireless as I'm using my mobile for videomaking during travel so I have to stop filming to just readjust the mike as my need, also its so difficult to carry my laptop during traveling to use the rode app!
Thank you! Glad you like it! Yeah, it's uncomfortable to set things from a phone or laptop but you can’t set it right and let it be like that? Do you change things often?
Excellent video. I know this is going to sound dumb but... when looking at a recording on a transmitter in the app, and I see the Orange Clock, that means it has Time Code right? When I am following the instructions for Adobe Premier Pro, it says it can't find a time code track. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
Hey bro! Thank you for your comment. I will be honest with you. Timecode is the only thing I dont use on this system and I don’t know what to say. Sorry but I don’t want to guide you in a wrong direction 😁 Hope you will figure it out fast and easy 🤗
Hi Gabriel, I'm a new UA-camr, and your video tips on using the Rode Wireless Go Pro were incredibly helpful, especially regarding connecting the new Lav mic. When I start creating my videos, I'll definitely give your channel a shout-out. I also noticed in the beginning of your video that your receivers and transmitter were different colors. How can I achieve the same setup?
Hey bro! Thank you and I am happy to help :). At the beginning, that coloured light was made in the video editing software. The receiver and the transmitters doesn't have colours. Thank you and good luck with your content :)
I’m trying to get the best sound on a stage about 150 feet away (i generally do small theater jobs) from a Sony a7s DSLR. Can’t figure out if the quality of the sound would be better just throwing one of these little wireless transmitters on the stage floor or putting the videomic + shotgun on the dlsr…or 3rd option which is using both by connecting the shotgun to wireless pro near theater speakers. Thanks by the way.
Hey! I don't think is the right choice for what you want to do. 150 feet can be a little bit too far. And for a stage, I always prefer to record from the main mixer with a professional recorder like a zoom f3. It's hard to catch good sound from the speakers.
If I use just internal recording from both transmitters, it doesn't really matter if I have merged or split right? Cause I have already seperate audio track for each?
Many of these tricks and tips also apply to Rode Wireless ME or Wireless Go II. If you like them, don't forget to subscribe :)
Does the ME also record locally on the TX or only on the camera itself?
Hey. Only in camera.
When connecting the mic to the transmitter it is best to rotate the transmitter NOT THE MIC. This will reduce the possibility of work-hardening the copper strands in the mic cable that will inevitably lead to an internal break in the wire and a subsequent microphone failure.
Great tip! Thank you for your support 🙋🏻♂️

Mate this is the best video on these mics by far. I haven't watched the others and I don't need to.
Question for you, what is the brand of earbuds you're using for monitors? Happy to use an affiliate link.
Thank you!
Hey bro. Happy to help and glad you like it!
Do you talk about the foam pads that I have under my speakers?
@@GabrielVIP the headphones that you use for monitoring is what my question is!
@@codythep Sometimes I use Audio-Technica ATH-M50x but the ear pads are the original ones. That orange fabric on top is from a local store in Romania… is just a peace of fabric that covers the top. I will see if I find it on amazon or something, I will come back with a link.
Great video thank you!
Glad you liked it! Thank you for your feedback 🙋🏻♂️
I have just bought this microphone for vlogging with my go pro 12
Congratulations! I hope you like it and good luck with your content :)
Thanks you for this video. Amazing
My pleasure! Glad you like it :)
Hi friend. So can I record internal and camera audio at the same time? Tks
Hello! Yes, you can record in camera and have an internal backup :)
thanks for this useful video
You are most welcome. Thank you for your feedback :)
great tips. thanks 😊
Glad you like it 🙋🏻♂️
Very good review! is the RØDE Central Mobile app vs Desktop app.... is the mobile app have access to all the settings? thanks
@@GabrielVIP so that would be 'Rode -12'
I am not in the studio roght now! Let me check and I will come back :) I want to give you the right answer 😁
@@GabrielVIP no rush. I do have to do an interview Tuesday. Any time before that is great. And if not... I'll manage 🙂
Is perfect.
What about the colour rims on the units in your thumbnail, where did you get those?
Hey. Those are made in photoshop 😁 That light doesn’t exist 😁
@@GabrielVIP Ah, I see
umm... May you please tell me where you got that jack clip from, the blue one??
Hello. Jack clip? I don't know what you are talking about. Can you give me the exact time in the video? where you saw that? Thank you!
This is a very good video, friend.
Thank you. Glad you like it 🙋🏻♂️
Thank you for this amazing guide&tips video!
This was such a great tutorial. I got a lot from this. Also, where did you get the colour pieces for this ?
Hey thank you! Glad you like it. Those colours that you see at the beginning are added in my editing software to catch attention. :D
@@GabrielVIP ok thanks
Helpful
Glad you think so!
Can you record independently straight from the wireless pro and not connect it in the camera?
Hey! Yes! You can record internally in your transmitter without connecting it to any other device :)
Thank you for the tips!
Happy to help 🙋🏻♂️ Thank you :)
@@GabrielVIP All good! I appreciate you being up front about this! Automatic subscribe!
What about Nikon Z8? There's no camera preset for this camera
Hey. I didn't used this camera but you can use Gain Asist. This. feature is awesome and for me is perfect all the time.
If I use just internal recording from both transmitters, it doesn't really matter if I have merged or split right? Cause I have already seperate audio track for each?
Hey. yes! That setting is for the receiver. You don't use the receiver in this case :)
