During Tyler Childers’ 3-show sell-out run at Nashville’s Exit/In, PG’s Perry Bean swooped in for a pre-soundcheck hang with the bandleader, Jesse Wells (guitar/fiddle/baritone/mandola), James Barker (guitar/pedal steel), and Craig Burletic (bass) to cover all the gear these good ol’ boys use to spark some hoopin’ ’n’ hollerin’.
Bandleader Tyler Childers’ has been long associated with Martin flattops, but 2018 saw him shift over to primarily using this Collings DS1 with a slotted headstock.
Multi-instrumentalist Dr. Jesse Wells (he teaches at Morehead State’s Kentucky Center for Traditional Music) spends most of his time on this special-made paisley (“pepperoni finish”) T-style that is equipped with a B-bender and built by Nashville’s own Forrest Lee Jr.
Multi-instrumentalist James Barker spends time between guitar and pedal steel. His main 6-string ride is this Fender Highway One Telecaster that was modded to fit a Lollar Imperial humbucker in the neck, outfitted with compensated brass saddles, and even got a facelift with a customized leather pickguard thanks to Daniel Romano.

Been listening to Jesse play for many years. Tyler has just come on like a hurricane and deserves every bit of success in the world. Go Kentucky!

That guy is seriously a monster picker. I can’t believe his name isn’t more well known among country guitarists. I listen to these shows on Nugs.net and my jaw hits the floor sometimes at some of the shit I hear Jesse pull out on a nightly basis.
Super nice of Tyler to come out and do it, even though he didn’t even really need to. Most artists as tired as he is wouldn’t come out just to talk for 5 minutes. What a talented crew. Tyler writes some of the best songs out today, too. Easily my favorite rundown in a while.

This interviewer seriously makes these rig rundowns hard to watch. Had to turn off a few of them cuz he made me feel so uncomfortable and sorry for the artists showing their gear

No pun intended
Dude is probably the most talented musician on that stage by a fair margin. The way he carries the band and still stays out of the way. Think about it. A lot of bands can lose the bass and yeah it's gonna sound different but take him out, the entire feel, groove, and movement is gone. All of them are definitely gifted and extremely talented. But that bass player is incredible.

Update: The more I watch this, the less I enjoy it. Who is this guy interviewing? He is totally insecure. He's obviously a very smart musical guy, but he ruined this video. If he would have been calm and said only 8.7% of the words he said in this interview, this would have been my fav video of all time.
Aw, leave the guy alone. He knows his stuff and most of the musicians he interviews seem comfortable with him. Not everyone can have the charisma of a talk show host.

Definitely don’t think Perry was the best guy to interview a country band. Should’ve brought John out, he talks a lot too but he knows the genre better and it shows
Do none of you that watched this one watch premier guitar? That interviewer has been doing this for years and hes a great interviewer.
I prefer John over Perry, BUT, Perry always seems to keep the band comfortable and relaxed, while also keeping them talking. There’s a reason they use Perry for interviews. He just has a different personality than John. He gets a whole lot of info out of the people he interviews.

When will this guitarded players understand that RESONANCE IS BAD FOR ELECTRIC GUITAR. It is energy lost in the body that never gets to the amp. Wtf!?!?
Maybe it is to you, but tone and feel are subjective so it doesn't really matter
@@hh4826 no not to me. The magnetic pickups can't hear the wood resonate. They don't hear sound. They transform the MOVEMENT of the strings not the sound of the strings into electricity. The sound is born only at the amp. Google how a magnetic pickup work.

@@Its_LumberJack no it is the science of the magnetic pickup. It can't be subjective. Even Les Paul said that the best electric guitar body is a piece of railroad track. Becoes it doesn't resonate. It is a totally different technology then acoustic guitars. Resonance it is energy lost in the guitar that doesn't go to the amp.
Then according to you every chambered, semi hollow electric sounds shit? Arristides guitars are bad guitars and every guitar builder that thinks different than you or Will Gelvin is an idiot.? I know how pickups work. I've wound them many times. They are NEVER entirely free from microphonic behavior when played loudley through an amp. EVEN when they are well potted. (Otherwise you couldn't make your guitar feedback ) So resonance can surtainly play a positive roll in an electric guitar.
