I have irrigation system with a zone frozen in the on position and had no idea what brand of valve I needed to fix. Kind of difficult to order parts and learn repair if you don't even know brand. I couldn't see a brand name on my valve since it was so far down in a hole and could only see the top of the valves. I was able to tell from your video that my valve was exactly the one you demonstrated! By watching your video I not only learned what brand of valve I had but also how to fix my valve (by simply buying another new valve and replacing the guts and solenoid from the new valve). My "rebuilt" valve works great and no PVC pipe work needed! You have my sincere thanks for such a great job on this video!!!!
Well explained! I had a valve stuck open and it turned out to be grass roots had forced there way into the cavity of the plunger and was keeping the valve open. Just incredible the strength of these roots.
Excellent. I have an Irritrol valve I just had to only replace the solenoid (luckily) but was gonna do what you did with buying a complete replacement valve
excellent job describing how valves work. thanks for taking the time to help other. I subscribed because you are knowledgeable and a great instructor! thanks again.
As others said, thanks for explaining HOW this valve works. I had no idea, but now knowing it's a pressure differential that opens it makes sense. Clever design. Now, I need to figure out why my valve isn't closing. It opens, sprinklers run but they won't stop. I give the valve a light tap with a screwdriver handle and it closes. Something is hanging up... sucks when I find the sprinklers have run for a few hours!!
Whoa you have a great understanding of this... .I'm on sprinklers videos cuz my front sprinklers at the house arent getting pressue to a point the heads arent even popping up however water slightly coming out of them... so I dk anything about irrigation but saw a video about this solenoid thing I'm like what...these things work on electricity with water!? So this video showed me why and how these systems work! super awesome super great understanding you have...so it gave me a clear picture what's going on man!!! Cheers dude Daniel Palm Harbor FL
@@bmlandmanagementco4981 umm glad you replied... lol Becuz yes and no man I still think the I forget the name now it's been 2 weeks the thingy that ur doin he video on is somewhat busted cuz there are times the sprinklers turn on and has pretty good pressure and then just today 05/02/2020 I went to turn them on and it's all this wimpy pressure stuff like not even being pushed up out of ground so I just left it and went to work... idk it's okay I'm not worried it's been raining a lot here in Tampa FL so... it's okay later I'll have to talk to someone about it
dan r what did you end up doing? Did you replace the whole top cover, including the diaphragm and solenoid? I just replaced one at my house three or four days ago, because it was leaking around the solenoid.
Sadly nothing yet...my story is I live at my folks house but I can still do some work here and there but alotta times I get a no go to touch stuff and probably for the best... but my dads friend is who put them in...so my next step is prolly pick his brain ask him about it or just maybe see if he wants to make some cash and tinker with it himself... idk really how to work on these parts
dan r honestly, they’re easier to repair than you think. I show people how to do it all the time,...especially if I can tell that they really want to do it, but just don’t know how. That’s just me being nice and paying it forward.
Great explanation - thanks. Except at 9:03, because of the solenoid that open up creates a water path on top, thus the pressure on the top cavity will actually decrease (will not pressurize but depressurize), because water has a place to flow out, pushing the large diaphragm up and opening up the main circular opening below. Thanks!
I replaced my diaphram like the one in your video because it wouldn't shut off and it was leaky. Now the sprinklers do not turn on manually like they used to, any ideas? Swapped solenoids with one I knew was working and no luck either.
I am having the exact problem with the relief valve leaking water. I have to back it off in order for the system to work. Sorry I may have missed the fix for this. But should I replace my top part of the valve?
The best explaination of sprinkler valve work so far

Thanks for sharing!! Repaired my neighbors!! His solenoid also quit!! Happy camper !!
Wow, Master class on lawn sprinklers. Never really understood how they worked. Impressive
Thanks for describing the inner workings. It was easy to fix various problems once I got a mental grasp of how it functions.
Very good presentation - you are a natural teacher.
Thanks so much for detailed description of the operating mechanism !
Best explanation of how the valve works thus far, thank you!:)
Great job

Great job my friend, real nice job.
Bought and old house with these valves. Appreciate the info, very helpful 👍
Seriously the best $10 for that tool ever. PO by hand tools

Excellent explanation,thank you
Awesome explanation, thank.
Such a useful video! Thank you!
Very informative video. Thanks.

WOW! Why are your valves covered in dirt? -- that aside .. thanks for a very easy to understand video.
Ha. They are in the ground. I guess 🤣.
very nice direction, Thanks
thank you....very nice explanation...

did you check the little breather hole it must line up with the solenoids hole. If it does not the sprinklers want come on
Thank you for the clear explanation and for this video! Very helpful.
Good video. I have several of the same valves. Had one in my hand as you went through the explanation and can't fault anything you said.
Rainbird valves are the best. Hunter sprinkler heads are the best and Toro is the best timer.
Think about installing an inline particle filter? Just suggesting.
Nice job.
Very helpful. Thank you!
Well explained,,,, ✌🏼
Excellent, thanks!
Very helpful thanks 🙏

Great video - i tried to replace a melted solenoid but still stuck on 😒.
Thanks you saved me!
Is this solenoid 24V or 110V?
110 volt is a big problem at the valve! Wiring has to be low voltage!
@@richardbowers3647 should I read 24vac at the solenoid?
Great explanation
Thanks you saved my ass big time!
saved my ass too haha
Thanks for your video 🙂
That’s one old school valve.
My sprinklers are a bitch dude. Electrical short, bad seal, and no replacements at the hardware store.
My shutoff valve is full of spiders!
Spiders cant get into a shutoff valve...
A vacuum works well.
Richard Bowers or just leave it open for a while.
Hunters brand 100% better for 17 dlls Whit flow control
30 year old solenoid? ajjajajajja
Cheap valve
Great information! I really appreciate it. Thank you!
