Thank you so much for posting this. I was just about to call a sprinkler company to come out and repair my leaky valve. This saved me some money and taught me a little something about my sprinkler system.
Am gonna attempt to use your video to fix my system. The plumbing company that installed mine has the next opening a month out and am tired of wasting water and money. Good setup for you. Mine are in a small hole deep in the ground!
Man... you just saved me so much time...thank you!!! I didn't know about the bleed screw. That fixed it. I was about to replace the valve. Great video!
Really great video. Unfortunately, mine don't have the air bleed screw and the valves are getting a little old installed in 2013. I am really hoping I don't have to dig up a failed line, but may need to replace the valve at the least.
It may just need a simple rebuild as well. Something else you can try is runing off the water at the main, letting the pressure drop and then turning the main back on.
@@DoItYourselfDad We had tried a variation of that. Unfortunately when they were installed there wasn’t a shut off added in addition the main for the entire sprinkler system and hose bib in the house. When I turn on the main downstairs, that zone and line don’t stop running even though the zone is also closed.
Hi thank u for this I just followed your instructions and bleeding stopped the sprinklers .. however should I buy a rebuild kit and change it out as I paid a sprinkler man 250$ to put the value in only a yr ago.. and he won’t come back unless I pay him again!! When I did the little one to bleed it they shut off…
If you can hear water hissing through the solenoid does that mean you didn’t turn it off all the way? I checked my sprinklers this morning and ran into that problem
If you can hear water hissing through, it would mean your valve isn’t off all the way. If the solenoid is in the off position and you can hear water flowing through it usually means you have a problem with the diaphragm.
Had a zone staying on. I wish my valves we set up like this mine are under a lid in the ground. I opened the lid and the whole thing was filled with dirt. I cleared alot of dirt out and water was coming out of a few of the valves it seemed like. im guessing debris but not entirely sure. House is12 yrs old so the system has to be around that old to i would think.
@qzqx3047 cleared out the dirt tried tightening down the valve that was causing issue and that fixed the problem. If this didn't fix was going to buy the same valve and replace the to part of the valve
So I have 11 zones in my system. My system runs off of a shallow well with a 2 Hp pump. System comes on fine with timer and works great until it reaches zone # 8. At that point pressure drops dramatically in zone #8 and only a small stream comes from one or two of that zones heads. I then go to my well pump and crack the threaded bleeder on top of the impeller housing. air bubbles will then come out and within a minute or two zone #8 will pressurize and come to life. The system will then finish off the remaining watering cycle without a hitch. Next day this same problem will repeat. What might I check in my system? Thanks
Charged me $350.00 for probably two hours hands on labor . I about crapped , I payed it , but this will not happen again . Had no idea that they'd put it too me for this much . It was in the ground , but all they did was take it apart in half and just put the new part on the top half .@@JPWRana
If you put your hand on the valve while its running, you should be able to feel the slight vibration of the water flowing through it. If not, press your ear to it and you will hear the water flowing.
It was weird, turned on water for the 1st time this yr. Water would not turn off only by water main valve. Even unplugged system it was still on. Box in ground was covered in water. One of the 3 air bleed screws was all the way open. I closed the valve and the water shut off and everything acted normal. Could it have been that simple, valve was open and filled up the box with water?
Turning the solenoid worked for me. Thanks. You saved me a lot of work and a trip to Home Depot.

Thank you this helped me fix the sprinkler system that wouldn’t turn off. Turning the small dials did the trick.
Thank you for your help. You save the day. I'm really appreciate it.

Turning the valve slightly left and right turned mine off, thanks a million.
Really liked your video. thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.

nice video, very useful, thank you for sharing your knowledge!

You expect him to do it for free? I take it your line of work you do free work all the time too?
I'd recommend taking it apart and checking the diaphram for leaks first. Then, if needed, rebuild it.
@@DoItYourselfDad ok 👍 I give it a go cheers
Fixed! When I inspected the diaphragm, I discovered a big piece of debris in the valve body. Flushed it out and now everything is working again.
Your a life saver. Thank you!!

@@DoItYourselfDad but what is the large screw mean on the valves?
@@Thestatequarter2001 That is the flow control knob, is regulates the volume of water.

Do the solenoids go bad. Also, can you replace just the solenoid?
They do, and yes, you can replace just the solenoids.
Does this still apply with them turning themselves on and off after the system is set to off?
It may, sounds like you have an air leak someone in the valve.
@@DoItYourselfDada leak that allows them to turn off at the scheduled time?
@@DoItYourselfDad please include link to full valve replacement

That’s really strange, you cracking the bleed on the well pump and getting air?
I had a leaking station so I rebuilt the valve and for some reason no matter if everything is turned to off it won’t shut off. Thoughts?
Should I try this method if my sprinklers won’t shut off only by main valve?
Definitely, it’s either going to be the solenoid or the diaphragm
Wish I'd watched before I hired a lawn service replace mine, have not got the bill yet . I'll feel the pain then......🤕
\Now you'll know for next time :-)
so what ended up being the bill amount?

Make sure you know how to turn off the main water supply before yall try this at home folks!!!!
If you have multiple valves, how can you figure out which is the valve you need to replace the diaphragm?
If you put your hand on the valve while its running, you should be able to feel the slight vibration of the water flowing through it. If not, press your ear to it and you will hear the water flowing.
I always hit it with a wet vac while I have it apart to make sure no debris in the tubes
Good idea!
Hire a professional! But this is a very educational video. Good job
This is a VERY easy job, there is no need to hire a professional.
Ps just subscribed I will post this too thk u
👍👍👍👍
So did this procedure fix the problem for you?!
Yes, it did.
What happens when all my values and electronics are covered in water
Do you have a leak? They shouldn't be submerged. If that's the case, shut off the water and drain the area before working.

@@13salinaspride That was probably it, bleed valved will leak a good amount of water when open, so hopefully that fixed it. Best of luck!
@@DoItYourselfDad thanks for your responses
We don’t have any of that it’s just a bunch of wires.
None of this works. Sprinklers still stay on
