Not the government or GM. Just the reality of a global supply chain and the fact the whole U.S. market is typically tier 2 or 3 for chip suppliers since most plants are in Asia. That and constraints on things like carbon fiber and you have this mess.
My dad got one this past year, triple black with a 6 spd manual. And the folks at cadillac nailed it. Comfortable, fast, feels and drives great. Best RWD manual sedan ever made by a wide margin. Good job cadillac.
I would get definitely this over the M5 and E63 based on external appearance alone. I think this is a better looking design. Not sure if I’d prefer it over an RS7, though, although the RS7 design is getting old, so maybe.
I don't care how fast a Tesla Model S Plaid is, a a BMW M5 CS, an AMG E63 S, an RS6 Avant, RS7, or a Panamera Turbo S all are. A V8, RWD, 6-speed manual transmission super sedan for far less price than the Germans at a starting price of $87,990 is not only a hell of a bargain, but it'll be way more reliable than all of the Germans, but it'll also be a future collector's car in the same realm of collector cars like the 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP manuals and the 2015-2017 Chevrolet SS Sedans that came with manuals. Cadillac made the ultimate V8 with the ultimate bargain now as a final hurrah, but it's just the beginning. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the final model year of the CT4-V Blackwing and if they can get a bit more power out of it and crack the 200MPH and definitely the CT5-V Blackwing if they can get 700hp out of V3 of the LT4 engine or if they can make proper adjustments under the hood of the CT5-V Blackwing and squeeze the C7 Corvette ZR1's LT5 engine even if they detuned it to 700-715hp with that Tremec TR6060 or upgrade it to the TR6070 7-speed manual as a final model year limited edition CT5-V Blackwing which will really be the supreme collector's car amongst all collector cars.
BMW M5 starts at $105k so I wouldn’t say this specific car is a lot cheaper than the base German cars (being fully optioned $106k), but it’s definitely different and more driver oriented (and also obviously a lot more reliable) so this car is definitely a good option to have in this segment. And I agree about the value of this car.
That's the base M5. To be comparable from a performance perspective you would need to bring at least M5 Comp to the table (CT5-V Blackwing beat the Comp by 4.5 secs/lap at VIR) so the M5 is simply going to be a lot more money. However, if you're not one to push a sedan hard or track it you can get more luxury and plenty of performance from a BMW M550i in my opinion.
seems like a very special car... for this kinda money the new Z06 and new Lotus would also be doable options. I would just be happy with a new Z for $45k.
Great review. The CT5-V Blackwing is phenomenal, but so is the regular CT5-V...in spite of Matt's terrible review of it previously (must've been a bad sample on a bad day), as it's also garnered considerable praise for its chassis and handling (as it also carries MRC 4.0). Jonny Lieberman rightly deemed it best in class (S4, M340i, etc).
@@layne4376 exceptional. I have driven it, and I own a B9 S4 and a 335i M-Sport 6MT, and the V is much more engaging than either. You don’t have to like it, but virtually every review is overtly positive (save for the average interior). Jonny Lieberman (Motor Trend) declares it best in class. I don’t think he’s wrong. p.s. The Koreans? The last comparo from MT had the CT5-V beating both the Koreans and the Japanese (G70 and TLX Type-S).

There will always be room for a V8 with a manual in my opinion. I still would’ve liked to see a coupe version though. Even though I’m an old man, I’m still not old enough for 4 doors on a “fun” car.
"Compared to an electric car - it's not really a comparison. If you want an electric car, get one"...Very good point. That's why Cammisa's video was a bit weird and pointless.
Dude. Cammisa was making _exactly_ the same point that Matt and Zack are: this is a superlative driver's car. If you are the kind of person that loves driver's cars, then you should buy one. Go back and watch the Hagerty video again, and you'll realize that you misunderstood the message. Cammisa put the Plaid alongside the CT5-V and the M5 CS to demonstrate _why_ a driving enthusiast should value CT5-V above the other two.

Your only option will be to buy used. And he who has a low-mileage example of the latest and greatest before the EV changeover will be able to command a pretty penny.
The issue comes if in 25 years these go the way Goodwood cars and can only be used at specific events etc, then it will definitely be devalued because it will be come a very expensive to maintain paperweight that has very expensive requirements to stretch its legs
I have one with a manual trans and carbon-ceramic brakes. It's amazing. I looked hard at Zee Germans, and no one offers a manual gearbox and for me, that's a deal-breaker.
And let alone you get a chunky ass tremec sweat not one shift
Aren't all the German competition also much more expensive?
You still got it? I've got a 2010 Accord Coupe V6 6mt. It's a little baby compared to a CT5V Blackwing 😂
@@NoBaconForYou I still have it. I'm on my third pair of back tires. The Accord is a nice car.
I am seriously looking at trading in my 1LE for this CT5-V Blackwing. A local dealer has one on their lot with steel brakes for $89K. Its just a bit outside my budget unfortunately.
Dude. The fact that your dealer isn't charging ADM on top. It's def worth considering the trade up
@@wesd991 Right? I was full on expecting a 10-15K ADM on it, but the dealer wants to let it go for MSRP. I just can't afford to reach that high right now, even though this car might actually gain in value over the next few years.
@@ericzwart3640 probably not doing any markups because of the letter GM sent out to all dealerships that went public. Basically says that markups are against the company contract and dealerships will get in trouble if they're reported.
@@whatiwant8898 dealerships are certainly still charging massive market adjustment pricing on the Blackwings. Luckily, I worked with one of the dealerships that does not and got mine at MSRP.
@@Quezwon well then all people need to do is threaten to notify GM corporate and the dealership will change their tune. I've talked to a handful of people who've done that and had the markups removed and bought the car. I've talked to people who've done it with a C8 Z51, CT4V BW, and a ZL1 1LE.
Where is the sunroof? You guys said this is the highest trim (topped out, loaded), but there is no sunroof?
I wish they could stuff a V8 N/A LT from the c8 motor in the CT4 BW. That would have been glorious. The CT5 is just to big of a car to be a serious track monster (even though it will be super capable on track)
If we really want to dream, imagine the new LT6 with a manual in either car.
It really sucks that the CT4 is a V6
Why lol twin turbo v6 is a monster and more tunable and lighter.

Your dam right!
I ordered one of these in November. No build date set and no interest in actually producing them by GM. Com mie govt is trashing our economy.
Not the government or GM. Just the reality of a global supply chain and the fact the whole U.S. market is typically tier 2 or 3 for chip suppliers since most plants are in Asia. That and constraints on things like carbon fiber and you have this mess.
Last manual V8 for Cadillac, we're looking at a future classic
My god, a Caddy that can keep up with my ‘19 ZR1 Vette, well for a little bit, but YES I want one BAD! Thanks guys! Awesome sauce vid as usual…
You can sell your '19 ZR1 and pretty much buy this and have money left over for a c8.
Would be wicked to see cars like this in the UK. Love the look of these cadillac's
They have so much presence at night with those headlights, just menacing.
The Camaro ZL-1 is the budget AMG, except extremely ugly and boy racerish that nobody over the age of 18 should aspire to.
I have never wanted a Cadillac as much as this car, holy shit it's so fucking good in every way
The intro is a really good addition to the format. Keep it up!
The Best v8 Sedan Ever Hands Down ! Much Better Car Than Any German And Much More Reliable.
You named all the reasons I LOVE the TRX..."It offends in every way possible."
LOL offended by the TRX’s size . Common man ! Really?
I couldn't afford the cv5, but I just ordered the ct4v blackwing. Trading in my bmw M2 for the "practical " family car ;)
There's about the same space in the back of the CT4 as the M2, but I guess the 4 doors makes a difference. I say let the kids walk! 😆
Theirs nothing wrong with the TRX or the blackwing other than dealer markups because they are freaking badass period.
There's an official list of good and bad actors on the V-forums as far as ADMs are concerned.
Tell us how you got a multi million dollar loan to build a garage for rich people to store their cars.
After you blasted the vanilla-flavored CT5-V I'm surprised Cadillac even let you near one of their cars again.
At least they don't hold a grudge.
I am looking to add as my last v8 family car. Hopefully I can grab it by end of year.
Buddy I'm your ticket in @sticker if you order
lol "family car", that's what you told the wife, right?
@@TML34 lol! Is the only way!
Why did you delete the "just the noise" video of this car??????
seems like a very special car... for this kinda money the new Z06 and new Lotus would also be doable options. I would just be happy with a new Z for $45k.
Have have a bad feeling about the dealer mark ups
The sound of that car makes me wanna yell POWERRRR, thanks for the content
Lol lol
I will be buying one of these but I am not getting that bowling shirt of an interior.
The last comparo from MT had the CT5-V beating both the Koreans and the Japanese (G70 and TLX Type-S).
dude is still trashing on the TRX. "Offended" by it even.. imagine being offended by a vehicle
Yeah I don't understand it the TRX is freaking awesome I remember why I unsubbed a while ago seriously Matt used to be the man but now is offended by a freaking badass truck? it's stupid and all caused by freaking politics glad I wasn't the only one pissed off by that comment.
Great video guys thank you!!! I have an electric blue 6 speed on order and my wife and I are so excited it''s alot of money for us but I wanted one so bad i was willing to whatever it takes to get one.
I love you guys but this car is made for a Jeremy Clarkson review. Damn that would be great.
Diagree...Clarkson is about equally likely to spend all his time talking about the car as he might getting distracted by the naming convention, fact it isn't sold in U.K., or comparing it to some 30-year ago GM experience he had...
U guys nailed it. Couldn’t agree more.
Lease residual on these things are between 49%-53%, be interesting to see how these will have held their value after 3-4 years and more.
There will always be room for a V8 with a manual in my opinion. I still would’ve liked to see a coupe version though. Even though I’m an old man, I’m still not old enough for 4 doors on a “fun” car.
I was considering one for all the great reasons(manual, V8, power, performance, sound) but the dealership markup is insane...
If “V” doesn’t meant anything anymore, then what are we to make of the Escalade-V? Will there be an Escalade-V Blackwing?
Imagine a wagon
I love that you called the CT5-V Blackwing a 4 door ZL1, that’s my license plate on my V2 CTS-V 👍🏻
Man, Australians would love this.
I wish this was sold in RHD markets. This is an awesome swansong for this engine and transmission combo.
Why compare to a car you havent driven (m5cs)
I’d get one over any German import. Wanna know why?! US Spec homologation. 89% of the time, unless it’s a Rolls-Royce, it ain’t worth it to own a watered down version.
Of any car in its class, and some that aren’t, this is the one I want!
This is one of the cars I’m considering getting when I’m done with Nursing School. It’s a beast.
I don't know how much nurses make in your neck of the woods, but I'd imagine something like a new GTI would be a more reasonable purchase. Honestly I would say a new GTI would be kind of frivolous. I can understand wanting to reward yourself though.
@@herbalchicken bruh nurses are butt chugging money these days. Nobody wants to be a nurse, hospitals can't get enough nurses. He'll have money falling out of his ct5-v

Hey GM, pls put in that C8 Z06 LT5 8600RPM motor with a manual and you will have the ultimate swag song send off of the V8 performance sedan. Please and thank you. The manual make this sedan King from driving experience period. Heads up other brands especially BMW who gave up on it. Thank you GM, thank you Cadillac.
So this is where the much rumored Alpha Platform 4 Door version of the Camaro (ZL1) ended up as. See GM can make a Alpha Platform V8 powered manual transmission car that you can actually see out of. How about when GM converts the entire Caddy line up to EV that they rebadge this masterpiece as a Chevy and name it the "Chevelle SS" . Please GM please! There are enough of a Baby Boomer market to support it . Look at the Dodge Hellcat Charger FCA has noooo problem selling those things and the CT5-V Blackwing handles way better than the 20 year old Mercedes-Benz S-Class based LX platformed chassis.
I'm not a fan of American cars. This thing makes zero sense right now.....and I would trade my girlfriend for it! A manual, V6, sports sedan? Sign me up! Looks like so much fun, and I'd drive this thing EVERY DAY...well, I'm in Canada so snow would be a no no, but this wouldn't be a garage queen, I'd drive the snot out of it. Sadly I'll never afford it. I think the folks at Cadillac let out a big sigh of relief after watching this video lol. Nice vid!
I know I’ll get flamed here. As a gen2 CTS-V owner, I’d like to see a non-supercharged version around 500hp(LT1) version of this missile.
Nah that would be pretty cool. I just want GM to make cool shit.
I would like to see the NA 495-hp V8 from the base C8 in the 4 Blackwing and the NA 670-hp V8 from the Z06 in this car. THAT would be epic and bonkers over the top!
Add some wheel arches and that Z06 motor and you’d have a car for the ages
I seen one for the first time in real time last week in all Black and that thing was 🔥🔥
Needs a sick hood vent
I was disappointed to hear Matt say he was "offended" by the TRX...... I guess his Moobs bouncing around in a truck rubbed him the wrong way. :) With that say, they are spot on with their revies of the Blackwing.
I’ll stick with my 2018 CTS-V . I think it looks better than the CT5-V and stick ain’t everything , plus they bang you on every option when you go to build one whereas my 2018 came with most things you’d have to order on a new one and pay more for it.
I had a V3 (2017) and did like the front-end design more and the back seat had more features (like third climate zone, power rear and manual side shades - but those were options and not available at all on the CT5-V Blackwing.) I don't know of much (any?) that's an option on my CT5-V Blackwing that was standard on the V3. Can you share?
@@rdollie1 great to share some facts with you , I do know that I opted for the carbon fiber package which was a $9k option and it came with the blacked out rims and the track video recorder and Recaro race seats , it was all included , if you go to build a 2022 today it’s all itemized and you have to pick and choose what you want which only means more $$$ ( GM got wise to the way BMW and other German car companies operate ) plus don’t forget the risk today of getting a dealer markup over $15K in some instances .
@GET OUT OF THE TIME TRAP aha, so what you're talking about are option PACKAGES. Yes, understand there are fewer options packages buy given constraints on so many things that's not surprising. Once the supply chain recovers in a year or so I would expect to see more packages available across several mfgs
Thing looks ugly, but 6 speed manual sedan? I'll take it.

They should still make this along side electric cars because there will always be a market for enthusiasts.
Much of what makes this car great (minus the engine) should carry over to a compelling EV once the battery density and efficiency are there for a true 'sports' EV (I contend only the Taycan fits this category and the battery tech for longevity still isn't there.)
