- If you have hermit crabs and live in Australia, this video is for you! There is little to no specifics on Aussie hermit crab care, and sometimes Aussie crabs are in other countries too.
I hope anyone in areas affected by corona virus are okay, and you are healthy and well.
All information is based on my own research, experiences, and opinions.

Hi! My channel is an animal channel on all of my pets and the care I give them. I try to only upload care videos on animals I have had proper experience with. I always do my research and I love all of my pets.

thank you for doing this video as most Aussies are buying the wrong enclosures and food and painted shells and all the absolutely wrong stuff for the poor crabs. Education is vital!

I collected my shells from the beach. Made sure they were not living and made sure that I was allowed to before I did. But saves so much money on shells. I boil them and let them dry out all the way before putting them in the enclosure. Our hermit crabs love them.
I have inherited the neglected crabs at my work (daycare centre) and I love the Australian specific content you have provided. Our crabs are going to have a much better life now, I moved them out of the old kraboos tank the other day into a nice fish tank with lots of substrate for them to dig, things for them to climb, more shells (one changed shells the other day the kids were so excited about that), larger water pools and I am slowly adding new foods to their diet. Looking forward to happier healthier crabs.

I live beachfront in Queensland...
I got my crab off the beach in its own shell, which are plentiful on the beach. Sand, cuttlefish bones and shells are free. I water across the road and get a glass of saltwater everyday so it has fresh liquid.

I guess it depends where you live. I’m in central QLD and found that my Krabooz tank humidity is as too HIGH and struggle to minimise it with only one vent. Definitely too shallow though. I’ll be looking into an Exoterra.

Great tips! I take it you're in Adelaide? That's cool. I used to live in Adelaide myself but now I'm based on Kangaroo Island. Out of curiosity, do hermit crabs requite lighting and heating?

oh, I forgot to ask.. do you know the best place to get moss for a moss pit??
I’m so glad I could help! Bunnings has spaghnum moss which is safe, too, just keep an eye out for one or two prickly bits.

so with the substrate, how often/do you need to change it ? how do you keep it clean? etc
If you are using sand and coconut fibre mix, there shouldn't be a need to change it. You only will need to spot clean dirty food, etc. If there is a flood, or mould growth, you will need to clean it. Hope this helps!! :D

I haven't really have any luck with finding reliable places to get shells other than online, sorry.
Have you ever had a strawberry hermit crab, I’m having trouble finding big enough shells for it as they grow very big

And as for where to buy them, which country are you in? It's best to choose a website from your country so the shipping prices arent crazy.
How large do Aussie hermit crabs grow to?
They can get pretty big. Tennis ball size and can live for 15+ years
What is the mesh around the top? It would work perfect for rat ladders?
It came with the tank, so I'm not sure where you could find it.I hope you find it!
Hello can I please ask you something what moss is safe for hermit crabs I’m making them a moss pit and need help of which moss I know sphanum moss is good but are other mosses good. Also can I give them cuttlebone for birds is if it’s safe for them or can I use turtle bone which is safe cuttlebone without minerals

I would just go for whichever cuttlebone is JUST cuttlebone, so the turtle one sounds the best option.

I got 6 shells from krabooz for $10 each just to find out they had a clear lacquer on all of them😡
Oh, that is so annoying!!! I wish Krabooz at least sold useable products, even if the standards of care they give is terrible. :(

There are a lot of restrictions on animals and pests being introduced. I wish I could, though. Have you been able to find any Ecuadorian crabs where you are? Stay safe 😊

No, I would need to travel to a different state, and I personally am not ready to take on a hermie that needs that much care.
Adelaide an egg understandable, are they illegal in your state? Or just not available?
@@honeyhunts8406 No, Australia all has the same laws. My state just doesn't have any stores that sell them since they are harder to transport, I guess.
Can you use fish water conditioner???
It depends on the brand. What brand do you have? If you want I can give you a link to a safe conditioner list?

Is it meant for fish? If it says that it gets rid of chlorine, neutralises ammonia and removes chloramine, it is safe. Make sure it doesn’t say “helps with”, it should say that it neutralises . I hope this helps 😊
