    Why am I crying!? OMG it is so amazing to see hermit crabs FINALLY being represented the way they deserve to be. I love that background too! WOW so many people ask about doing this and I had no idea you had this clever version. That small red plant is too cute. I might be able to keep that one alive! Grace I am so thankful for you!

    I love hermit crabs. I had a few when I was younger. I wish I could have seen your videos then! I got them from a pet store and followed their guidelines. The problem is their guidelines where not in line with the needs of the crabs. Thank you for everything you do and helping people take better care of their crabs!

    Great job! I love that you all have teamed up with Mary Akers. I love your products and I'm so excited to see a bioactive setup for hermit crabs. Gods this makes me really appreciate how much easier my marine (fully aquatic) hermit crabs are. 😂 I don't have to do anything special for them apart from make sure that all my hardscape and substrate is made out of calcium (aragonite/fossilized reef rock) which my other inhabitants also need and everything else is the same as the rest of my reef aquarium's inhabitants (weekly dosing of calcium, magnesium, alkalinity + a multivitamin) which includes corals (which are definitely more persnickety than my hermits,) shrimp, snails, a tuxedo urchin and six fish (including a very adorable and intelligent pair of captivebred ocellaris clownfish! ❤)

      @@ThePhoenixw68 I do have a 75 gallon tank with 6 cranes in it. I always recommend having about 10 gallons of space per crab or if they are large/jumbo crabs then 15 gallons of space per crab. This way they have the option/ability to get away from each other but most of mine stick together. My 3 larger ones chill together and the 3 smaller ones can usually be seen together on the camera

  • @baker4132

    If hermit crabs need high humidity, why didn’t she use a drainage layer? Does the glass allow the air to stay humid while the soil stays relatively dry?

    • @JoshsFrogs
      @JoshsFrogs  2 роки тому +5

      The soil is designed to hold moisture, so it is not dry. It is like sand at the beach that you would make a sandcastle with it. The glass also helps keep the humidity in. False bottoms in hermit crab habitats are a risk without supervision and maintenance. We feel that space is best used with more substrate for the crabs.

(Lol I follow Mary Akers and she talks about the tiny shells) Also, I have a 12x12x12 exoterra, but couldn’t get it warm enough, so I switched to a twenty tall.I may try again, but how do you block the front vents by the doors or deal with the door gaps?

    I was on your site and you need to make another kit like this but in a larger Exo Terra Glass Terrarium option. I would buy this one but would rather just get it in a larger size since this one seems it would be out grown rather quickly or eventually make the number of more mature hermit crabs limited to one or maybe two if they are not too large. I would rather only have to have to purchase something like this once and not have to buy a whole new setup in a year or two because now the crabs are too big for this. Are you going to offer a larger package option at some point that includes a larger Exo Terra Glass Terrarium option?

    In this video it explains why keeping Hermit crabs in a fish tank is doing harm to the crabs and the environment. Hermit crabs belong free in the oceans and enjoy a diverse habitat. Honestly it is actually very cruel and selfish to remove them from the wilds and stick them in a tank . So if you have a heart and truly care for the crabs, please leave them be.
    Here is the link to the video ua-cam.com/video/IBoPOQ-PKDo/v-deo.html

    • @JoshsFrogs
      @JoshsFrogs  2 роки тому +4

      Hi there! We totally agree with you! We don't want to take animals out of the wild, which is why we only sell captive-bred animals, including these hermit crabs!

    • @zeph6439
      @zeph6439 2 роки тому +1

      @@JoshsFrogs I'm sure that nature lovers appreciate that. The jury is open, however, on whether the crabs themselves appreciate being kept in a restricted environment, even if captive bred as you say. The problem still lies in the fact that many buyers don't care whether the crabs or fishes are wild caught or bred by a reputable breeder. The buyer only has the word of the vendor to go on, and it may well be that unscrupulous operators con the well meaning public in this regard. I prefer to see them on a beach somewhere, scavenging around and having innocent fun rather than in a prison cell, regardless of the furniture.
      Anyhow thank you for your well meaning intentions.

    • @ThePhoenixw68
      @ThePhoenixw68 2 роки тому

      Well, i see it like this. The corporations will just still buy huge supplies of these to inevitably sell to dumb parents looking for a low effort pet for their kids. They arent low effort, and i ended up buying 2 for my mom then taking care of them becoming an enthusiast. 2 slightly bigger than golf balls have invested around $150-200 and going on having them almost 5 years now.

    • @zeph6439
      @zeph6439 2 роки тому

      @@ThePhoenixw68 Thanks for caring. But I remember as a young child with a clear mind and senses spending some time with hermit crabs and feeling their oneness with nature and their love of freedom. I can't bring my head around to the idea of keeping them in a small glass tank and depriving them of that primal need for freedom from restrictions and forced confinement.

  • @wrenchingoncars1884
    @wrenchingoncars1884 2 роки тому

    I used to have hermit crabs and I have to say how much your setup is trash. Now if it's for display only purpose or to sell then it's ok but to keep long term your hermit crabs are going to be bored. They have almost no room to move around, the salt water and fresh water containers are way too shallow as they need to be able to completely submerge themselves. Wow you don't even offer them any UVB cause your setup is wrong, you could have cut the background lower to fit the light. Also if your putting a heating bad behind the background, I won't heat up the tank. My HC where very active during the day just like the night. Good work on a tank that looks good for consumers not true HC keepers.
