Please get him another friend, they are very social animals! And try to feed him more fruit and veggies. They need more protein than processed pellets. You’re doing great so far, keep up the good work!❤️
We recommend the 10 gallon as a bare minimum for two crabs. Of course, more of them in a larger enclosure is better! Here at the shop we keep them in a large colony. While we offer commercial foods as a convenience, we recommend it be fed in conjunction with fresh fruits, vegetables, crickets, mealworms and shrimp.
Lola Bean my hermit crab friend has died and there is only one now, I can’t go to rescue a hermit from a beach store I. The middle of a pandemic right now, have any tips on how to make them not feel lonely??
I’ve got three hermies in an exo terra 18x18x18! This is a pretty good care guide, but I’d like to clear a few things up for people who are new to hermit crabs! While pelleted food can work, it isn’t a very good stable. It’s honestly much cheaper and easier to provide fresh leafy greens like kale and collard green. It’s also important to provide a variety of nutrients! Red and orange bell peppers provide chitin and cellulose, fruits provide sugars, nuts provide fats, things like cuttlebone can provide calcium, and it’s very important to provide a high protein diet so your crabs don’t eat eachother! This can be done through all natural dog and cat treats or fresh seafood. Garlic, onions, and table salt are not safe for your crabs! An excellent source of protein is Orajen Puppy Food, it comes in tiny trial sized bags for four dollars. Hermies also love friends, keep a bare minimum of two! And they like to have at least three appropriately sized shells per crab, purple pincher crabs like to have shells with O shaped openings and other species will like shells with D shaped openings. They also need deep substrate! 6 inches minimum. I work at a locally owned pet store a bit south of Tye Dyed Iguana, so I have a lot of experience with hermies outside of my own! Check out the UA-cam channel Hermits, Hounds, and Horses for excellent hermit crab care tips! And most of all have fun!
The difference is that she doesn’t she has a depressed hermit crab they will kill them selfs if they get depressed you also need two crabs or more and 10 gallons per crab
Do not use an under tank heater underneath the sand! Attach it to the side or back of you tank ABOVE THE SAND LINE. If you don't your crabbies can be burnt and overheat and die during molting!
All the information is correct but I will try food that's better for the crabs and be careful with the heat mat that's under the tank bc it can burn you crab try putting it on the outside of one of the walls of the tank
You well also need to get more then 1 (they like to be in groups if not they can actually depressed themselves to death this is very sad. Please do not get your child one, it is more of a responsibility to take care of hermit crabs then dog or cats. You’ll have to keep the humidity at 75°F (do more research then just this one video).
A 10 gallon tank is the minimum tank size for two hermit crabs. Of course we do encourage a larger tank size and more similar sized crabs if it is at all possible. They can be great pets for children, as long as they are supervised. This is the case for all pets as they all need specific care and children are not necessarily reliable enough to provide that without parental help. We have an updated care sheet on our website.
It works just like any other animal or fish conditioner. The simplest way to put it is, the chemicals in the conditioner (listed as dechorinating agents, there are a few kinds) react with the chlorine and break it down into non-toxic components.
Yes make sure when you do research you watch MULTIPLE people , read multiple articles. You’ll realize things she forgot to say are : they need friends! They need 10 gallons per crab. Put the heat pad on the side, if it’s underneath it could burn them when they molt in the substrate. They like to swim! You can do larger bowls just make sure you put something down for traction. They need a large variety of food. Proteins, meats, etc.
@@gamingandcollecting7933 I was talking about the brand of salt water she had is not good. I know all about hermit crabs have them myself and do videos on them. There is better salt water out there then what she's using.
That's why we mention in the video that they can eat a varied diet. While we offer commercial foods as a convenience, we recommend it be fed in conjunction with fresh fruits, vegetables, crickets, mealworms and shrimp.
Many people will buy vegetables or fruit, dice it up and store it in the freezer to prevent it from going bad later. As long as they're given at room temperature, previously frozen veggies or boiled vegetables should be fine - as long as they're on an approved list for hermit crabs. Avoid any vegetable blends that might have onion or garlic in it.

under tank heaters arent very good because when they are molting it could burn the crabs.
Is colored sand and something like a glow in the dark shell going to be harmful to the hermit crab?
yes! by far! all natural are needed. colored sand is also bad as it clogs up in ur crabs shell and suffocates them
Hermit crab owners watch the crab street journal
Great info. I think www.hermitcrabland.com is very useful as well.
In Vietnam, we only have rugo
try to get better food as well as being more careful when holding him
