Since you are going to make this again when you find your dream quilt: Instead of binding all the edges with bias tape before you sewed the pieces together, I would sew the seams first and then bind them with the bias tape. It uses half as much bias tape since it's binding 2 layers at once, and also takes half as much time. Plus the inside will be cleaner with just one bound edge per seam instead of two.
Didn't know I needed one of these in my life until now....totally reminds me of a vintage housecoat! Cozy and chic! I wonder if making one out of a puffy down comforter would be too difficult, but that would be SOOO warm.
I have been looking for MONTHS for the perfect quilt to upcycle for this exact project. And then I see this video- yours looks gorgeous!! I can’t wait to make my own!
This is my first UA-cam comment ever. Just had to. You manage to express the manic joy of creating things! And how every step seriously takes 50 years. So inspiring and fun to watch.
Jenna, Great job and it looks so cozy!!! May I suggest that the next time you make your dream quilt coat, that you use only one thickness of the quilt for the belt and use the same bias tape to bind all the edges of the belt? It will match the rest of the edges of the coat (Where you see the bias tape), and I think it might make it look less like a bathrobe tie and more like a coat belt! Just a suggestion!
Great idea. The fabric is so thick it does not need to be 2 layers. And definitely not right sides together and trying to turn it right side out- that is just asking for pain. She's going to make a second one when she finds the perfect quilt so she can make small changes like this to make the second one even better.
Great job on the jacket. I’m a quilter and I’m glad you found a use for this pretty quilt. I might make myself a quilted bed jacket with and old quilt, thanks for the inspiration. You rocked it my girl. ♥️
There is a sewing maching foot that feeds the bias tape through that binds around the fabric that makes a project like this easier ...also you might consider sewing everything together then binding the seams it is a lot less work and less bias tape. Great project! You are always informative as well as entertaining!
I’m always astonished when sewers don’t use pins to pin the pattern OR measure to the grain. I love that you used the bias tape on all the raw edges. Such a nice finish. Looks fantastic. I would have made bias tape from the scraps of the leftovers for the pockets, but that would have been very fiddly. I stumbled onto this channel looking for inspiration as I bought ten new quilted pillowcases at a thrift store. The first thing I thought was JACKET! Now I’m thinking COAT….thank you for all the ideas 😊
I have to say, I wasn't so sure about a quilt coat and then you made this. OMG!!! It's beautiful and it looks fantastic on you! You did an amazing job, I love everything about it. You need to find places to go just so you can wear this jacket because it is too good. Love the video!
You tube brought up this video for me. This jacket qualifies as a winter coat in Houston Texas for milder days. I saw one at Dillard's but I never saw anyone wear one. Anyway, I found a quilt and revisit working with quilted fabric. It was popular in Illinois when I lived there back in the late 70d.
a suggestion : to keep the bulk out of the front and a cheat for the belt use snaps ! place the snaps on the side that goes in and then a second row on the opposite side then either sew the belt to the back or add a snap to keep the belt in place. if you loose the belt......uh oh....
Hi Jenna! Thank you for these videos! I’m finally learning to sew because of you. I have been struggling with straps because I get confused with how you flip them inside out with the pencil. Would you be able to explain a little more how to do that? Thanks!!
Love it!!!! Now I want to make one. The only thing I’ve made is a pillow case and a smaller quilt for my son! It is so special creating something! Im working on a 100% linen baby blanket for a friend next! If I go slow with help, can a beginner do this? ❤️
Also, if you want to change it up a bit, next time you could make the jacket/coat with just enough overlap in the front to put in button holes-making it less bulky with less overlap. You can still use a belt, but the coat would be a little trimmer-looking, and require less material as well..less of a wraparound by making it more tailored, with less bunching in the front!ll
Hahahaha spending week on knitting projects but no time for bias tape 😂❤️ I'm so proud of you! It was great to see the project from the idea through quilt shopping and now finally the finished product. It waa an adventure :) i love your videos!
I'm so happy you finally got to do this, I know how much you were looking forward to it. You did a GREAT job. It kinda looks like it could double as a robe, too 👀 I'd throw that on after a shower and chill fr
I think you need to make a quilt. It's really not that hard to piece and I think you could find an easy free pattern for the star you want. Upcycle an old fleece blanket as the batting/backing and it would be so nice and cozy as a coat, and just how you want it to look! You could even just quilt pieces to size since you have the pattern- even easier!!
I love the jacket! Your so crafty! I get tension headaches too! I love massages I need one! I bought myself a massage pillow I love it! You should make a hoodie blanket next?
Is no one gonna mention her tattoo? Or am I late😂 I love it so much, the jacket and your tat, thank you for such great videos. It always gets me in the mood to sew my own projects and ideas 💡😩
Hello! I know this video is kinda old but I am OBSESSED!!! and its winter in Australia soon, so this is PERFECT!!! I am just bit confused with the sizing, what size did you make? if you don't mind me asking xx :) loveee your channel!

I was wondering by why she did this unless she left a slit down the side
Yes that and I wouldn’t fold the belt in half, I would have just trimmed it width wise and put bias tape all around 👍🏻
This method would also add less bulk.
@@phyllishigley6161 right, especially in the arm pit where 4 corners come together, that seam has to be super bulky
was thinking the exact same thing
Didn't know I needed one of these in my life until now....totally reminds me of a vintage housecoat! Cozy and chic! I wonder if making one out of a puffy down comforter would be too difficult, but that would be SOOO warm.
i think you would be able to! skims has a robe that’s literally a comforter and it looks so so so cute and everyone says it’s cozy af

You are so enjoyable to watch! I have come back to this video a few times while making my own quilt jacket. Thanks for the good vibes! Cute jacket!
Hi Jenna, I absolutely love your videos and your positiv energy❤️❤️
Thank you so much!!
I love it! It gives me vintage 50’s housecoat/robe vibes. ♥️✌🏼

U are very inspiring because you inspired me to start knitting and crocheting and your very unique from other people who do the sane thing as you

OBSESSED!!! looks great ! one tiny detail that makes it look bathrobe_y is the curved edges.but i would totally do it too

I think you should take that star pillow case and make a cropped jacket with it and pattern match with other quilts for the sleeves and collar.
I think I would switch the sash for toggles or push buttons, but I’m so tempted to try this out.
so excited you found a quilt!!
You really do have a unique talent when creating, I love your videos. Thank you
Girl, I am not sure if I will ever make the stuff you make but you have a vibe I totally dig. You're so funny.

I’ve been wanting to make one of these for almost 2 years now, maybe this is my sign to do it!!
Also, if you want to change it up a bit, next time you could make the jacket/coat with just enough overlap in the front to put in button holes-making it less bulky with less overlap. Hi Jenna ! Which pattern size did you use ? I have downloaded it but now I want it to look and fit exactly like yours :) thanks
Yay!! I did a size 34 but I would recommend shortening the arms if you don’t want to fold them over :)
