I love that coat, it looks gorgeous on you with the white boots. I suggest you find some comfier long white boots with lower heels so you can get further than a few yards :). The pink and white checked blanket is just fabulous. I have never seen a checked blanket in the UK, only solid colours. I think I would have bound the edges maybe with a diagonally striped binding, or maybe just hemmed them? Love that coat!!!
"If you learn anything from my videos - that's on you", you cracked me up when you said that, too funny. I love how you smiled through the stressful parts, that I know aren't fun during a project and could so relate.
It is called a Capote, and it’s a very old style coat. They were popular with French trappers and traders, or coureurs de bois, who made them from Hudson Bay Company wool blankets, and later from other sources of wool blankets. They became very popular with Native Americans who frequently traded with the French. Nowadays, they are typically worn by reenactors. I made one for my husband, who is Native American.
This is the first time I’ve ever seen one of your videos. Great coat and you look fabulous in it. Thanks for the tips and entertainment on a Friday night.
I love that the "models" I see nowadays are extraordinary regular gals from my favorite UA-cam channels! I wanted to be a model so badly when I was young.
This just appeared in my feed. GREAT job!! Always washing your fabric before you cut it out is a MUST!!! And for thrifted items, I add oxi-clean to the load and wash on hot. You'd be surprised what a difference it makes (the people at Goodwill told me to wash on HOT to remove any potential bedbugs, or mites. eek, but grateful for the tip!). really great work.
@AlexandriaLayne I am OCD and ADHD and that's the kind of things I tend to "hone in on". I've seen other creaters make these and I wanted so bad to love them but I couldn't because they were everywhere. Yours made me and my brain happy. 🩵
Turned out great! I love the fact that it looks kind of home made. That seems to be the style these days. Upcycling something that already exists into something even better.
Nice job. You're very relatable. When you were hand sewing on the sofa with your husband on your right and your sister on your left I was giggling. Your arm swinging high and wide and your husband obviously leaning away from you. The awareness that one might get punched in the face or a needle might poke your eye.
I use my oversized heating pad all the time to keep the stiffness and pain away…. Many prayers for you! It’s so hard being a person who has to stay busy while coping with health issues. Yet, here we are!! Love your creativity!!
Love your videos. You are such a fun person. And I love your sense of humour. Your right about those boots they look amazing, but they make you pay for that fact. 😂
I love the look of the boots so much but they totally make you pay! I'm surprised I haven't accidentally broken the heels off yet, or tripped in them 😂
Loving the vibe on your videos. It's fun and that coat is so spring like. I can just about sew a straight line and the way you imagine your projects are amazing.
dude thank you so much! I try to edit the videos as true to my process as possible! sometimes that means it gets a little chaotic, but still good I hope! 😂
I’ve done something similar with a wool blanket. My husband wanted a “boreal” coat for woodcutting or anything else in the wilderness in frigid weather. It turned out great.
@@AlexandriaLayne why not get some comfortable boots of any color and use leather paint to make them white? It would make for a cool video, and you could probably get Angelus to partner with you and supply the paint.
First time on your channel. Love it! The project, your commentary & style. Thanks for sharing your triumph over chronic pain & calling out classy-vicious boots! They do look great.
@@keyanajackson4987 I love those boots but they are a DEATH SENTENCE 😂🪦 I thrifted them years ago and they were pretty worn at the time, but I couldn’t leave them!! 😂
I’m so glad you like it!! I’m still surprised it came together! After the shoulder seam ripped I lost a lot of my confidence in the project but it totally came together!
Great job. Good conversations… agree with boots. At almost 7 decades I had to give them up 30 years ago after tearing ligaments 2 times in my ankle. Be careful… Keep creating…
I once decided to sew some skate boarding shorts for my son and accidentally sewed the legs together! Have no idea how that happened. We laughed about it and I picked it apart, sewed it and discovered that I'd done it again! 🤦🏽🤷🏽😂
Super great coat !!!!! You really added a lot of details 💗. I’m making an OS hoodie from fluffy fleece sofa throws, For granddaughter. Have to get it done before Christmas 🎄 🎄🎄
Simple but boujee haha, love it!! I'm complicated AND boujee. Anyway, it turned out great! And love that you showed a bit of the BTS photo shoot too 'cause I'm just a sucker for all things photo shoots after making something hehehe. The repetitive arm movements causing flare-ups sounds horrible, I get that when I fold too much laundry and any task similar and my shoulder blade area feels in pain, but I've never had an injury so who knows what my excuse is haha.
That was a great video! Beautiful coat!!👏Wow! It's so much more as a coat than the blanket, excellent vision. I'm about to embark on the blanket coat initiation and am so thankful for your video for multiple reasons such as; making a sewing circle out of the pieces about to be sewn for good vibes, needing snacks, putting overly optimistic timeframes and the pressure to complete things as if I can warp space-time, demonstrating when to stop and being ok with it, picking that blanket! ( I know I would've walked away from big square checks), winging your own pattern, being a taller girl like me, adding lapels-brilliant(I'm totally doing that) and pockets. Now I'm stoked to sew!!! Thanks again.
TALL GIRLS UNITE!!! Sending you all the good vibes!!! lol make sure to follow the steps as closely as possible, and never underestimate the power of a sewing snack!
Superb. I’m impressed. (Your commentaries gave me a bit of anxiety, but I think I can work through that because I really want to look at some of your other videos but we’ll see if my anxiety gets too high I may not be able to go forward) I do love your thought process and how you executed this, and I apologize to much chitchatting, for some reason just gives me anxiety.
I think this is such a cute and creative idea and I love this blanket as the fabric to use for this project. I saw another woman using blankets for jackets and she also did an amazing job. I wish I could remember her name at the moment but I can’t😢
I have been wanting to make a bog coat (jacket) for years. I have not found the correct blanket to make it out of yet. Your coat looks wonderful on you. Those boots would kill me.
I have been looking for a style to make into a coat. I have a pendleton blanket that got slight damage done by someone. So I believe this would be a good project.
I am so impressed by you!! You are amazing! And FUN! 70 year old mama here, sewing for 60+years and you inspire me.❤
I agree

Thanks for a real “make” video not a pretentious tutorial. You showing the pitfalls is a big help. You look great in the coat.
The coat is exquisite and you are hilarious!! I just discovered your site and will be back to see what other fabulous things you do. Well done!!!
I love that the "models" I see nowadays are extraordinary regular gals from my favorite UA-cam channels! I wanted to be a model so badly when I was young.
the coat is absolutly iconic and absolutly the most spring coat I've seen. absolutely amazing!
its super springy! I can't wait to wear it out on the town!
Absolutely!❤
If I find a similar blanket I'll turn it into a swing coat, as I realized that style would look amazing with this blankets pattern
The older the fabric, the easier it rips at the seams (or even not at the seams). I learned that one the hard way making my first quilt.
You rocked it🎉

I appreciate your sharing your mistakes in the project. It can be a warning, but it's also an encouragement.
You are so charismatic and your video was super entertaining! 👍 That coat is gorgeous! ❤
Thank you!! I’ve been wearing this coat EVERYWHERE lately! The temperature has been perfect for it!!!
I love the pink white checkered blanket! My fave detail though is actually that layered collar - chefs kiss 😘
The fact that you matched the patterns and the coat is cohesive makes me so happy I could almost cry.
I tried really hard to match the stripes on the hem of the coat!! I’m so glad you noticed that!!!

Those boots are off the hook uptown downtown around town slaying the look.

Right?! Like it’s got a bit of that “mod 60’s” vibe? Lol and with the boots it’s even more 😂😂
Lol I just love your energy. Well done with the coat. I just had to subscribe. Your so positive and truthful its very refreshing x

That came out beautifully. Especially with that blanket stitch

I love how you styled it with those boots! So cute!
I need to find new knee high white boots because these ones are so cute but I can barely walk in them 😂😂 they are so unstable!

How great is this?!!!!💖💖💖I have made several quilt coats and jackets but never a blanket one and yours is inspiring me!!!!
So glad to see you did this!! It turned out awesome! 🤩 I always love seeing your process.
I'm so glad you like it!! I'm so stoked with how it turned out!
Love the coat, you definitely hit the jackpot with that thrifted blanket. I’d like to make a more fitted type of blanket coat. ❤
I found the loveliest embroidered quilt i will use as a lining in either the Galaderial cloak or a faux fur cocoon coat I'm making.
Sis you did AMAZING! I wish that coat was mine. I need a sewing machine, you inspire me so much.
First time on your channel. Love it! The project, your commentary & style. Thanks for sharing your triumph over chronic pain & calling out classy-vicious boots! They do look great.

The blanket is beautiful. I haven't even got to the end result, but i can tell it is going to look nice. Kinda Barbie-ish. I like it.
This is the first video I have seen of yours and I am hooked! I LOVE the coat!
The coat turned out so cute! Now I want one.
I love the boots with ❤the coat and the coat turned out amazing
Love your style and your sense of humor! Super video! Funny! And well videoed.
Great job. Good conversations… agree with boots. At almost 7 decades I had to give them up 30 years ago after tearing ligaments 2 times in my ankle. Be careful… Keep creating…
Great job! I usually do french seams when using that type of fabric, to prevent them from ripping.
WOW ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! Thank you for sharing. 😊
I love every second of this!!! So engaging and relatable ❤
That is an amazing coat! Love it
Your coat looks amazing and great with the boots. Defo 50s vibe.
