ABOUT:
Hi, I'm Wendy, and I have been on a sewing journey ever since my mom taught me how to make little outfits for my dolls. I studied engineering and business, had an office job for two years, and then quit to embark on a lifelong sewing adventure on UA-cam. Subscribe to join me on the adventure, and maybe make your own clothing too! Thanks for watching ❤️"
Wendy checking out herself after sewing the collar beautifully and saying, "Oh my gooooooosh" is such a mood.
definitely the outcome of me holding my breath for the entire project LOL
@@withwendy worth it!
Oh man as someone who’s watched your channel for more than 6 years, this video was pure JOY to watch! Everything you’ve learned was on display in executing new tasks that are NOT easy (as someone who’s sewed many men’s shirts). The jacket is beautiful and your approach to sewing is so refreshing to watch!
Thank you so so much for all the years and for sharing in my joy!!
This video was so fun to watch! Way above my sewing level-but it’s okay to set GOALS!! Lol. Very cute. Did you have enough material to make your little girl a coat as well? We want to see pics.
it turned out so nice!! the pattern on the blanket is so lovely
Thank you so much!!
I don't care about sewing at all. I just watch your videos because I enjoy your personality! I hope all is well!
Marla’s gonna grow up and see the fashion trends and ask Wendy “mom, can I have that?” to which Wendy would say “I can do it. Probably better too."
Props to you Wendy. You're the GOAT
Marla’s little hello to the camera was the cutest thing!!! The jacket turned out so nicely as well. I hope its ready for the Canadian winter weather

I love how informative you are with your sewing machine (and just sewing in general) with how much you clearly show your progress and the text bubbles in the bottom left 💚💚💚
WENDY! I don't know how but I thrifted a pillow case with the EXACT SAME flower pattern, which I am using in my own jacket coat 😆wild.
omigoodness how do we setup a scenario where we coincidentally run into one another??!!
I had this exact twin quilt in 1981. I think I bought it and matching sheet set at Kmart in Kentucky, where I lived at the time. I was 18 years old and this was my first apartment on my own. So cool seeing it transformed into a coat. Good job. Your daughter is adorable 🥹💕
The coat is great, but I can't concentrate on the video because I've played that flute concerto before and I keep getting distracted 😂😂😂😂😂😅
you've played that??!! :O
@@withwendy I have!!! It's an absolutely wild ride start to finish :) I took my flute very seriously as a kid/teen and now flute for a living! (as well as composing/writing fairy folk and songs!) ☺️
Wow props to your flute skills!!
Well I play the flute too! But I didn’t even know there was flute on this video because I always turn the volume off and turn on the closed captioning. I guess I should listen again.
@@theemeraldruby that's so cool!!
Your attention to detail is incredible! Adding volume to the side and sleeve, specifically to the back and then paying attention to where the sleeve is gathered at the placket. You make me want to pay more attention to everything when I’m sewing.
your whole aesthetic-chic-but-cheeky-vibe is just so inspiring!! I've been in a sewing rut trying to work myself through some shelved stuff and this whole thing is making me excited to get going again.
Love the jacket and i'm glad you gave it the runway moment it deserved 🥰
reminds me of mariah leonard in the makeup world!
Wooow. I can’t imagine being able to make clothes like this on my own. This is the type of jacket that I would dream of and never afford, and you can MAKE it 😍. The amount of hard work you must have put in to get to this level. 👏🏻👏🏻
100% feel the same I watched this all in awe! Even tho she explains things when I watch her do them my mind is just like”WOW ITS MAGIC!” I am blown away
I can only aspire to that kind of sewing ability but this is beautiful
you can do it!!! just keep learning!!!
Love it! Was kinda hoping you'd have enough quilt to make a jacket for Marla. It'd be soooo cute!
THERE IS ENOUGH FABRIC!! Her jacket is coming soon!
It's been a while since I've watched your channel - I don't plan on missing more! Just love your quiet excitement and energy, as well as willingness to try new things. Thank you for sharing your make of such a fabulous blanket coat! Turned out wonderfully!
It’s effortlessly chic to wear 😮 I love the delicate pattern and the sleeves are everything
People always say that the main difference in sewing machines is the number of stiches/attachments, etc but in my book the thing that marks the difference between high end and beginner is how quiet the machine is. Your new machine sounds terrific. My beginner level machine sounds so clunky and noisy in comparison!
there is such an expertise in being able to see your favourite clothes/inspo and break them down into parts. that attention to detail about the sleeves! so cool
Your channel has helped me realize a more profound appreciation of the process of clothes-making and all the little detailing that goes into it to make a piece look clean and tidy. It isn't easy, but the results are beyond amazing!! You did so good!!!
Loved the runway walk Wendy! Your new blanket shacket is a great success. Fun trip to the button shop. AND Marla!!!! YAAAAYYYYY
Very cute! Marla looks so much like Dan. 😊 have a wonderful day! Christine 🇨🇦
Hi Wendy! Love the jacket it's so cute! I've been looking to invest in the lutterloh system for a while, but I was wondering if the main system has enough basic silhouettes to feel like you can accomplish most projects or do you need to purchase the additional booklets to round put your sewing patterns? Thanks! Love you!
Simply stunning!!! ✨ It is ro refreshing to see the rare mixture of experienced hability, challenged learning and just good vibes through the whole process. Always a delight to get the chance to see you work. Thank you!
Were you able to make something for Marla aswell ?
I have a suspicion that Wendy just really wants me to make a blanket coat. Every year I say - this is so cool, I gotta do it - and then life gets in the way, but Wendy reminds me every year. Thank you! I really hope that this year I will get to it
WAIT I have the top sheet of that print that I got a goodwill a few years ago!!!!
Bish I cannot believe you made this omg I need to recreate this ASAP!!!!!! Ugh I’m so in love….. with you, with this piece, the video wow. Thank you for being my inspiration for so so so many years
a blanket like this would make into a nice warm slip for a long skirt as well. I love remaking things! It lets you be more creative which is quite empowering!
Literally stunning, that quilt was a great find but what you did with it was even better! You inspire me to take my time and do things right with sewing instead of just trying to get it done lol
When I draft a pattern if I don't do a mock up I at least have an armhole measurement for sleeveless, sleeves and jackets saved. Reference these to make sure it is correct before cuting things out. Oh and jacket I always draft two sizes bigger in my measurements. If it is an already drafted pattern for a coat or jacket by someone else stick with what thier instructions say.
I've watched a lot of youtube videos recently that they were sponsored by threadup. Your's is the first one that actually inspired me to go check it out. That coat... those shoes... that HAT!
Also, that coat! 🤩Talented! And Marlaaa 🥺so cute she hurts my heart.
6:30 it's called a cloche hat.
I've clearly been gone for a while. You have a whole beautiful baby! I absolutely love how you walk through your sewing projects. I would have gone on hiatus at the sleeve adjustments. Which reminds me that I have a project to finish. Thanks so much!
That coat/jacket is absolutely gor-juss!! Off-topic, your daughter is soooo adorable and the cat is cute and funny❣️
I made a coat years ago in a quilted blue and white toille fabric. I loved it. Recently I was thinking about making another one. You have inspired me to do so! Yours turned out beautifully! Great tutorial!
I smile through your entire videos 😃. Thank you so much 😃. Oh! Love the blanket coat 🥰
I really appreciate you throwing in those little definitions of sewing terms for those of us just dipping our toes into this world! Also just love your videos in general. And BEAUTIFUL COAT!!!
Hi Wendy! This is the first video I’ve seen of yours, being new to the sewing side of YT, and it was genuinely one of the best videos I’ve seen in so long, on the whole of YT! Beautiful music, editing and a beautiful piece! So inspired to make my own winter blanket coat!
Haha same. Used to sew and want to get back into it. I feel she makes it seem less scary:)
You did a fantastic job! And it must have been so fun to use the Bernina on the quilted fabric! I was a Home Ec teacher many moons ago and it’s good to see you doing inspirational tutorials. And you’re so low key….ez to watch. Great job making the video…you not only had patience constructing/designing, but setting up the cameras and getting the right shots! Way to go!
I think this is my favorite thing that you've made! You look great in it and the sewing is perfection
The Jacket looks so amazing, and congrats on the Bernina, they're the best machines ever. I've been working on some blanket/quilt jackets myself and you inspired me to pick a project back up that's been sitting in my room. Also, I'm obsessed with that mustard sweater your wearing at 11:33. Can you tell me what brand it is? Thanks! I love your channel!
oh my goodness, your cat's name is Sagwa? 👀 after a certain old cartoon cat? lol
I cannot sew, but I would love to learn. It just seems to be way beyond my lifespan...
I always find watching your channel really soothing! The creativity is inspiring and how you tackle problems is honestly inspiring haha. This coat is stunning too
I’ve recently picked up sewing again and this video is so motivating for me to get better at it!! Loved the final look, can definitely see this on a runway 😍
Just found your channel. I love your quiet voice and I learn so much just watching how you address potential problems as you encounter them. I also enjoy watching you interact with your precious baby and even the cat.
I love this coat! from the fabric to the style! Also just love watching these relaxing and sewing motivation-inducing videos! Wonderful!! Also caught the British accent - made me LOL and impromptu song - I love the vibe!
21:53 glad I'm not the only one who does that with my sewing projects 😊
Genius idea using the already finished blanket edge for the front of your coat!
Now that’s a beautiful cozy jacket/coat. Well done Wendy!
Love Marla little voice ❤
I have been following you for many years now, and you improved so much!! Congrats🎉 wonderful job, you are really inspiring ♥️
For your next blanket coat, if you have a collar stand, use a cotton or lightweight flannel for the lining side. Nancy Zieman has some good tips for collars and collar stands.
I'm in loooooove. The quilt, the pattern, that balloon sleeve AHHHH. I swear I don't have the time for a hobby as technical as this but you make it look so freaking good!
Off-topic from your fab new coat, but omg your engagement/wedding ring/s are gorgeous! Where are they from and I'd love to see them more closeup. 😍
Your hair is so cute!!! I just love your voice and your tutorials are so soothing to watch and I learn so much! I love your videos! Ps I hope you and Marla are doing well!!! 😊
I think it'd be nice if this coat had a few stitches of red or gold embroidery thread running through it in certain places.
So much fun in one little video. Thanks!
( Years ago I bought a vintage man’s 50s bathrobe at the Goodwill, shortened it, and wore it as a jacket for yeeeaaars. I loved that thing. You know the kind - it’s some type of heavy flannel? with a geometric print? All the boys wore them on TV shows in the 50s era. I occasionally see them on eBay now for $200!)
Why the finger work at 4:20?
The thrift flips are back!!!!! YESSSSSS!!!!! 🙌🙌🙌
AHHH IT LOOKS SO CUTE!!! SO COZY!!!! i love quilted clothing but the jacket looks amazing especially bc the base quilt was so lovely.
it turned out so good!! I just got my first sewing machine and im so excited to learn :)
So beautiful, I’m amazed you made that with so many new steps, and you nailed the feeling of the inspo coat!
how is Marla this cuteeee!!?!? also, love the coat Wendy!!
Chefs kiss 😘 There really should be a saying to illustrate a well done sewing project! Bobbins poppin 🤷🏻♀️Well done Wendy well done!!
Wow! It came out SO lovely! That fabric is gorgeous and was definitely begging to become a coat.
I am literally OBSESSED!!!!! This coat is gorgeous, I would kill to have it! 😍😍
You're so pretty and so talented, I'm going to have to follow!!! ❤❤❤
And Marla is so cuuute!!! 🥰
Oh my gosh! I love The workroom! I get all my embroidery thread there.
Dior just did a men's collection with similar floral patterns. Looks amazing!
That jacket is slamming!!! It looks so much better than the inspo!! Love love love💕💕
What BERNINA are you working on... I have 570B WE and have problems with bottonwholes
Omg Wendy!!! 😭 I haven’t been by in a while because I’m a dirty hobby hopper and haven’t been sewing. Marla is SO. CUTE!!!! That’s my mom’s name! 😭❤️❤️❤️
Awesome job! Absolutely agree on the pockets. A jacket that cozy NEEDS pockets, for sure. I just found you and I'm binging your videos.
I really enjoy your personality! Thanks for making such restful and honest videos.
Beautiful. Love it. Those sleeves are EVERYTHING!
Thanks for making this video! The coat is so cool and I find it so soothing watching your videos ❤ I especially like the little explainer boxes in the bottom 😊
I had a Pfaff before and many people in my quilt guild had Bernina. I resisted cuz they are pricey....But I succumbed and love my 710. It's a solid reliable machine...nice job on your coat
Hi Wendy
New subscriber here.
If you want to reduce bulk when sewing quilt jackets, you can cut the batting on the inside a bit smaller. That way you only have two layers of fabric that needs to be sewed together. It really makes for a nice seam.
Thank you for this video. I really enjoyed it.
LOVE ❤ your new jacket. It is awesome. Wow you did an AMAZING job, such an inspiration. TFS
Beautiful job, beautiful coat! You are such an inspiration and so enjoyable to watch. Your spirit is everything. I love the new machine too. Looks like a high end sports car. I'm sure it has some amazing features, like the quick change feet you showed. Thank you so much for sharing. I hope to get to that level soon. Sewing is life! ❤
Very beautiful and very creative. It's not a blanket, though. It's a bedspread. It should be as warm as a blanket...
I have curtains with that exact print that my mother made out of bedsheets in the 90s. It must have come from the same bedding set as this quilt. Watching you make this print that is so personally nostalgic for me into a beautiful garment was delightful. I really appreciate how you showed us your drafting process.
I LOVE your rendition of quilt coat sleeves! Never thought to have them that way but I am in love- what a relaxing video, thankyou so much for the inspiration!!!
Soooo gorgeous!! Been looking for a beautiful quilt to make a jacket, but haven’t seen any that I’ve liked. You found a great quilt and the coat is so gorgeous!!!😍😍😍
Home sick from work and just discovered your channel (thanks algorithms!): it’s great! Your projects remind me of why I originally started sewing as a teen in the mid-to-late 90s. Your coat is fantastic! I would love to see if you ended up making one for Marla!
I just discovered your channel and love it already. The coat is wonderful, I will try a blanket coat! I have a 1970s Bernina and it's still amazing. I sewed through seven layers of faux leather before my needle snapped.
This is a such a great piece, Wendy! 😍😍😍
Hi! In retrospect, what do you think is the best way to finish the seams in a quilt jacket? I just purchased a reversible quilt from a thrift store and what has me the most stressed is my seam finish. Should I French seam, use bias? Ugh 😩. Help! 😂
It appears that this would be more of a "comforter coat" than a "blanket coat". The item you upcycled is not a blanket, it's a comforter. The coat style on which you were basing the final product is called a "duster", although due to your material choice and sleeve design, the final product probably wouldn't qualify as a duster style .
Gorgeous! Brilliant job!! I love how it turned out, it suits you so much. :) I love your progress in sewing, such an inspiration!
I was wondering why there wasn't a link in the description box for the sewing machine....$12,000
Beautiful coat . Extremely fashionable. Great coat & extreme fashionable
It's over 30 degrees celsius in Queensland Australia where I am today, and I just found the most incredible vintage bedspread for $8 on marketplace. I watched this vid because as soon as I get home I am making a coat out of it. Thanks Wendy for the inspo. xxx
I’ve literally been watching your videos ever since you came out with your raglan sweatshirt tutorial 😭 now look at you!! You’re simply Amazing !
I regret quitting my Bernina dealership job because that was the only way I'd ever afford one, and now that I've driven a Ferrari, it's hard to go back to my Prius/Singer lol.
Wendy: "I'm working here. Can you go over there, please?"
Cat: "Okay, but first look at my butthole."
Such a beautifully done job!!! Thank you so much for the inspiration!
It's the first time I watch your channel, you are so beautiful and I felt happy just watching you, the jacket is more than amazing
I hope you have a wonderful day ❤❤
I love this coat! So beautiful. Thank you for your hardwork. I really enjoy watching your videos🥰
To be true.,I would have added a lining. I'm just making a cloak/jacket out of my childhood sleeping bag and used lutterloh too but I don't really like the system because alterations are always necessary. Would like more handling-videos of this or lutterloh-tips
I just found you today November 22, I really enjoy your humor and your sewing abilities. Your suggestion to wear your inspiration was so cool. 66 in Mexico ❤
