- In this video we'll do some side by side game testing with an MSI RTX 3080 Ti Graphics Card to show you the bottlenecking that occurs using a fairly current gaming computer(2018), and a gaming computer from 2014.

This shows how much of a beast the 4790k is after all these years I was gonna upgrade my CPU but realized I'm better off just upgrading my 1080ti

Look, I don't comment very often in videos, but you deserve this so much, thanks a lot for making such a comparison video, I was looking for this exact type of video and I wasn't sure if I was gonna find it, and sure enough, here it is, you basically answered my question of whether or not I need to only replace my GPU or if I should spend more and replace my MOBO, CPU and RAM as well, and I think I'm gonna stick to just upgrading the CPU, once again, thank you so much!
Looks like you'll still have a very solid and smooth experience with the i74790 you'll just be missing out on those potential frames. Not a big issue if your keeping the GPU and upgrading your CPU in the future when you feel the need to.

I have a i7-4790k and was looking on eBay for the last generation 3080ti's. . they are starting anywhere from 300-500 dollars(thats $600-$800 off of retail). Was strongly considering getting one but since I would have to upgrade my entire rig I would rather just spend the money on new and get the latest gen whenever this cpu stops working as the games seem to be more CPU intensive. Thanks for the upload that is amazing Valorant fps!!!!! I have the exact same CPU and GPU on a Asus ROg maximus hero 10 and I’m only getting to 220-290fps! Also I overclocked my CPU to 5ghz and my GPU +190 core and +230 on memory. What mobo you running please and how are you pulling off these miracles !!!

its not that hard to buy an actual gaming pc with actual performance oriented cpus xeons are ass unless u wanna drop a couple thousands on the newer ones or bottle neck the shit out of yr new gpus

hey there, greetings from germany. i found your vid. thanks by the way :-D - so i looking for answers. i have the Intel Core i9-9900K and a Z390-A pro motherboard and want to upgrade it with a rtx 3080 ti. I found some sites that told me its a bottleneck and the cpu is to slow. So it should be not, right? Not the best but ok ? thx :-D
Your results FPS should be very similar to the results in the video. (for the i9-9900K side)

The i7 4790 is in single channel memory config
Well I suspect if you run a 3080 ti, you don't play in 1920x1080p, try again, but in 1440p, 1440p ultrawide, and 4k. Each time you push more pixels to the GPU, the CPU have more time to process a frame making less of a bottleneck. My 4790k build is about 8 years now,
. And I want to try a 4070 ti in sted of my EVGA 980 ti hybrid, as I think I can just make it happen with my 600w psu. Will be running that on 1440p ultrawide, and when I push the grafix to the max I don't think my CPU will be bottlenecked that often depending on the game.
How did you go with the 4070ti please. I am running a Dell Precision P7810 with dual Xenon (2014).

Probably a little bit, but not as bad as the DDR3 based i7-4790 system.
Why is the GPU utilisation so low if its not a bottleneck? Is it because the gpu is quite powerful and can just run the game with ease?
I have a 9900k 3080 ti combo and routinely get 80 percent gpu utilisation, sometime into the 90s
pci gen 3 and ddr3 vs ddr4 and pci gen 4 is why. just can't utilise it completely.

I have an rtx 3080ti and i9-9900k and only get 150 fps max :/ in fhd in fortnite
So with my OC i7 4790k will be what 13 to 20% higher FPS?
Or same with smoother gameplay.

I have i7-9700k and with my cpu it’s mainly below 10% but my gpu is like 99% should I upgrade to a i9-9900?
Stick with the i7-9700K until you have budget for a bigger upgrade.

Yes, they do. However, stick to the RTX 3070 TI or lower to minimize the bottlenecking.

How will an i7-8700k @ 5ghz perform with a 3080 TI ?
I have an i7 7700k and just bought 3080ti and as far as I can tell everything runs great on 1440p. I think the bottlenecking shows itself more the less resolution you use because the graphics card will send images at lesser resolution much faster and essentially overwhelm the CPU
@@klipser66 Thanks for that klipser66, glad you are getting good performance. i'm gonna hold off for now though, my 1080 ti hybrid is still a solid card at 2k on single monitor. Though it does struggle when i try to run surround on my triple 27 inch asus monitors at 2k.
I was tempted today however as i saw an ad for a brand new Evga 3090 ftw ultra still boxed and sealed for 1450.. the guy is willing to go to 1350.. very tempting.

@@deannelson1388 That's a great deal, Here in Croatia I payed 2000 US$ or 1800€. If you will for my 3080ti. I also own a 1080ti Zotac amp extreme in my office computer 🤭 and it is still a beast. Love that card. Best card ever made for sure 😁
you can keep 9900k + 3080ti for another 5 years at least if you only play at 1440p.
Lets see this at 4k or 1440p. Bet you at 4k the playing field is pretty level.

Keep in mind, we are not recommending the settings.
Why did you run 1080 on a 3080ti? You results are not indicative of real world. One, anyone running 3080ti is going to run at least 2k maybe 4k. Those higher resolutions are gong to slow the GPU down and more balance out what the CPU is fed. I think you would see much different numbers that makes it less of an issue. Two, why did you use the slower 4790... I would think most people who are buying a 3080ti have already pushed their old rig to the limits and would be running a 4790k, which performs a lot better than a 4790.
