Unfortunately, my 4770k hit a wall at 4.4ghz at 1.25V.... Even delidded with 1.4v max avx temps stayed under 100C but i could never find stability over 4.4Ghz. But EOL is coming up and itching for an upgrade so i might give it a try again just for fun.

Great tutorial. I decided to simply use the OC Genie button which overclocks both CPU and DRAM automatically with optimized voltages and timings. The CPU frequency is 4.4Ghz with this button feature. The motherboard was Z87 MPOWER MAX (same CPU).

      @blandoworthlessness 8 місяців тому +3

I did this with a similar feature on my z87-a motherboard. It overclocked my i5 4690k to 4.1 ghz. Later I tried manually overclocking and I got to 4.5 ghz with lower temperatures than the 4.1 auto overclock. I've read this is typical of auto OC features so you might want to try doing it manually.

I also noticed that 100:133 ram divider is more stable than 100:100, so I now run that ram at ca 2550 at 11 13 13 31 with custom secondary timings. Extra bandwith really helps in Pubg :)

    • @jabalajabolindest4852

@@martheunen load line calibration is set to level 6 (keeps the input voltage at 1.95v without fluctuations). I've tried to oc the cache multiple times, but I can't see or feel any improvements, that's why I keep it at 40 with "manual" 1.2v. I'm not quite sure what "memio voltage" is, but, if you talk about "VTT DDR voltage", for me is set to 0.825v( it should be half of the DRAM voltage).

    • @martheunen

I was able to do it with ASUS Gryphon Z87. There is an option in the voltage in BIOS that is called 'Adaptive', you specify there max stable voltage for max clock and it uses that voltage when under max load and it drops the voltage and clocks when CPU is idle.

It seems to pass short stress tests, but BSODs on games. Should I continue to bump up the voltages by like .005v increments and stress test for longer, or just settle on 4.7-4.8 ghz? Btw, in CPU OC, as always your Motherboard allows to change Core Voltages and CPU Clock Speed, you shouldn't have any problem(point: is very unnusual to can't do that). Btw, on higher clocks and temps i should warn you for your mother safety, because of all the heat emaning from the CPU can harm your motherboard components around it. Simplily do as you want but be care of temps in relation of your mother type of cooling.

When your cpu is hotter, it is not less efficient in terms of computational power per watt because it is pulling the same wattage, it simply is taking more time to be disipated, be it at 30 degrees or 70. It is like you believe the better cooler you have in your cpu the less power it will pull from the wall, it is kinda funny. The amount of heat disipated is always the same, it is part of a cpu design. The only thing a cooler changes is how efficiently the heat is disipated, nothing else. Your computer wont start using less watts magically because you just changed your cooler to a better one, which is what your "theory" proposes and breaks the most basic laws of physics...Remember, energy is not created, energy is transformed. Better cooling does not generate less heat, simply dispates it more efficiently. Ask for a refund at your school, i think we used to learn this at the age of 12 back then....

How long does overclocking take, with the stress tests? The whole day???
Can I just check back after 1 hour?
    gonna watch this later, thanks.
Also, should I overclock? I don't use for gaming

I have videos on my channel about the 4790k and how much more performance you can get from OCing. It will shorten the life of your parts so you need to figure out if it's worth it for you. To be VERY sure your OC is stable they recommend a 12-24 hour stress test. I usually do 3-4 hours because I'm impatient. I don't push my parts to their limits so it hasn't given me issues.

@@kotaharp8462 well how much does it shorten it by. if i remember correctly OCing doesn't shorten the life at all or so marginally that 5-10 years later, you would already get a new pc anyway.
it's a day of my time of my computer being unusable so I guess I'll do it, except I think I'll get less than 10 % benefit from what it already is. but my logic is that in 5 years I'll have the money and much faster tech available then to be getting a new pc.
my reasoning is that I Should use up every ounce of juice on my system so 5 years from now, better than having a non-oc pc that wasn't used to full potential when I won't need it anymore, versus an oc pc which will probably still work after 5 years. (As long as I'll have my data in case of hardware failure, but that's safe on the HDD/SSD?)
      Thanks,

I use Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. You don't have to go into BIOS that way.
