There is plenty reason to assume that this is down to selling tons of rtx 3000 cards. I bought a 3080 in december 2020 for about 900$ (admittedly not cheap, but it is a good model). Its not exactly Nvidia's fault that the Mining craze is back and that thanks to covid, there is more demand than ever anyways.

I still haven't figured how to dump the heat into a parallel universe though, best I can do is dump it outside by switching to an external radiator (that isn't very efficient if it's already 40C ambient outside, space in a parallel universe would be better, -270C in the shade assuming it's more or less identical to this one).

The hype is slightly overblown for gaming 80-90% better than 1080ti for 4k 25% better than 2080ti for rasterization at 4k 30-34% better than 2080ti with RTX on 45% better in Minecraft RTX and Quake 2 RTX most things are CPU count below 4K BWM render is 27seconds so it is very good for productivity 13 seconds with Optix
@@xdripx4970 It's not really productive to compare it price/performance to the 2080ti, the 2080ti was extremely expensive for what it was, especially when looking back at what flagship cards sold for previously. I personally think the price of the 3080 is just a reaction from Nvidia given the poor sales performance of the 2000 series, as if they were testing what the market could bare price wise at the time. What this card is being sold for is fair for what it is given how good the cooler is and is a definitely a leap in performance compared to last gen - not as much as people were under the impression it would be, but solid.

The biggest inhibitor of flight sim performance is the game architecture and cpu related causes. Especially when you add features like traffic and weather. It's not frame rendering that's the problem, it's the creation of the frame data itself for the card to render.
@RexinGhosty Those benchmarks were of RTX 3080, the real king is the RTX 3090,so technically keeping aside nvidia's promises about the 2x performance bump of 3080 compared to the previous flagship 2080Ti, it would be more fair to compare 2080Ti to the new flagship gpu king 3090. I am pretty sure that microsoft flight sim would be able to hit 50-55 fps minimum on 4k,ultra might even cross 60 though!, But imo it can run it on 8k@30fps, that would be a little hard though seeing that CONTROL's 8k benchmark leaks only suggested 8fps on 8k,ultra but lets see what the ampere technology has in store for us, new software improvements and optimisations and drivers could also bump the 3090 to its full potential in its life span. P.S.- Nothing to say about AMD BIG NAVI though, let's see what they have in store for us! FINGERS CROSSED! And the 3090 also has sli support so with a monster cpu (most probably RYZEN 9) and 2* RTX 3090 SLI, microsoft flight sim would get the taste of its own medicine, running at about 8k 60fps ultra most probably after game optimisation updates and upcoming drivers and more.

I still haven't figured how to dump the heat into a parallel universe though, best I can do is dump it outside by switching to an external radiator (that isn't very efficient if it's already 40C ambient outside, space in a parallel universe would be better, -270C in the shade assuming it's more or less identical to this one).

@@xdripx4970 It's not really productive to compare it price/performance to the 2080ti, the 2080ti was extremely expensive for what it was, especially when looking back at what flagship cards sold for previously. I personally think the price of the 3080 is just a reaction from Nvidia given the poor sales performance of the 2000 series, as if they were testing what the market could bare price wise at the time. What this card is being sold for is fair for what it is given how good the cooler is and is a definitely a leap in performance compared to last gen - not as much as people were under the impression it would be, but solid.

seems most of Flight Sim's limitations is down to poor CPU thread utilization.

The biggest inhibitor of flight sim performance is the game architecture and cpu related causes. Especially when you add features like traffic and weather. It's not frame rendering that's the problem, it's the creation of the frame data itself for the card to render.
We are going to have to wait for MFS 2020 to optimize their game properly. It's 2020 and they didn't allow the game to use more than 4 cores properly.
@RexinGhosty Those benchmarks were of RTX 3080, the real king is the RTX 3090,so technically keeping aside nvidia's promises about the 2x performance bump of 3080 compared to the previous flagship 2080Ti, it would be more fair to compare 2080Ti to the new flagship gpu king 3090. I am pretty sure that microsoft flight sim would be able to hit 50-55 fps minimum on 4k,ultra might even cross 60 though!, But imo it can run it on 8k@30fps, that would be a little hard though seeing that CONTROL's 8k benchmark leaks only suggested 8fps on 8k,ultra but lets see what the ampere technology has in store for us, new software improvements and optimisations and drivers could also bump the 3090 to its full potential in its life span.
P.S.- Nothing to say about AMD BIG NAVI though, let's see what they have in store for us! FINGERS CROSSED! And the 3090 also has sli support so with a monster cpu (most probably RYZEN 9) and 2* RTX 3090 SLI, microsoft flight sim would get the taste of its own medicine, running at about 8k 60fps ultra most probably after game optimisation updates and upcoming drivers and more.
