man this tutorial is so good. I just went out and took pics of cars and tried doing the panning technique you showed here, and I got some amazing shots. Thank you.
No. I have attempted to. One of my courses in college has this as one of our assignments. My question is once you have the object in the lens is just follow the object as the multi-shot does the job right? And, what lens is best to do this job?
I have a question… why do you need to do panning if we can just create the effect in photoshop? Seems easier to set a fast shutter speed to get the object in focus and then edit the background after no?
Great Video Curtis, the B-roll was so cool, those transitions where something else. Your photography was Dope and that editing technique worked so well!
just wanted to say thanks for this - the photoshop tip is super useful and allows me to shoot at slightly faster shutter speeds to ensure a sharp image. Thanks!
Epic POV! What I love about the panning shot is you don't need a low aperture i.e expensive lens to do it. It's all about the timing of the shot. Dialing in that shutter speed to suit. After 100's of shot's your doing well to get a handful of great shots!
That driver in Porshe made my day 🤣 i am gonna try this type of photography one day. I have canon 700d which has 5fps same as rp so maybe it will be good
The silver Porsche is a Cayman GTS. From the side, you can always tell a Cayman by the shape of the window. Caymans have that big sweep up at the back - on a 911 the sill line continues all the way until it meets the roof line at a point.
I love the transition in the begining, I've done pnning shots before actually the 3rd photo in my post in the video was a paning shot but I haven't tried that photoshop technique yet but I will now!! Great Video, keep it up💙
I am very new to photography. When do you push down the shutter button when panning? Do you only need to push down the shutter once to the object or keep pushing down the shutter during panning?
Hi Curtis, thank you for the video, but I have one question if you don't mind... How do you actually shoot? You see a car coming on your left, you point the AF centre point, half press the shutter to achieve focus and start panning and shooting until the car is on your right and hopefully one of the photos is good... Is that it? Or, can you just half-press the shutter to achieve focus and only shoot when the car is in front of you? Thank you so much
Nice video. I never tried it, but after watching this I totally will. Thanks for that...and so much thanks for reviewing my pic. I‘m glad you liked it. Stay safe 🤙🏼🤙🏼
… if someone asks to delete a photo, I’ll just delete to avoid conflict… meanwhile let’s put this dude on blast for the whole internet 6:33 😂 great video sir, and thank you!
If you're gonna go through the trouble of taking panning shots only to add motion blur in editing, might as well just take a single shot at high shutter speeds, say 1000 for a tack sharp subject and then add the blur later in Photoshop.
Really enjoyed this, I have my first car photoshoot coming up soon with a mates BMW M4, I want to do the car justice and include some panning shots, using a Fujifilm X-T3 and Viltrox 85 f/1.8. I know for side on panning shots I am going to need a wider lens, especially for some of the narrower roads near where he is, would you recommend 23mm f/1.4 or 35mm f/1.4? Bare in mind it is crop sensor... Can only really afford one or the other at the moment.
Nice tutorial man! I have a question, i find it hard to use manual mode so I start using Shutter prio mode with my 600D and just play around. What i do find is the focus not being sharp. Is that due to my old 600D with outdated focus? any tips?
In most places, an image taken in a public place is lawful. If it was unlawful, then we could not even look at another person. Our eyes are like cameras and we capture images in our minds all the time. Imagine having being told to delete images in our minds - not possible.
Seriously one of the greatest and must entertaining tutorials I’ve seen thus far. Exactly what I needed. Thank you dude!
Thanks mate really appreciate it! 🙏🏻
@@CurtisPadley do you have the same content for smartphones?

Amazing video. I like that you posted the shots instantly but also was like no way these are OOC. Very nice you also showed the editing workflow.

My god were those shots good, you've got some robotic arms to be able to track it so perfectly!
Haha thanks mate!
That was insane
Thanks!
Omg, I can't wait to try this!!

Haha! Should be able to get some grand shots with that Mate

Thank you so much for the photoshop tutorial. It was incredibly helpful and very valuable for me. It dramatically improved one of my shots.
I was the driver of that car staring at you. sorry for that, I had a bad day in my office. You are a fabulous photographer.
Man u r killing the shots

Nice, I've been looking for a good tutorial on this. New Sub here 😊
Thanks, I'll try this out for sure. Great tutorial.
This video's a gem! Thanks!
I am very new to photography. When do you push down the shutter button when panning? Do you only need to push down the shutter once to the object or keep pushing down the shutter during panning?
Hey there, I’m also new here. You’ve probably gotten your answer already. Going to try this today 👌🏾
Nice video unlike the others. You show your compositions where the other would try to do the same. Nice lesson bro. Lovin it.
Nailed it man awesome 👌
Thanks! 👍🏻🔥
Cool it with the exclamation points, pal

Amazing content! Here's a new subscriber
Is it matter what lens i use? I have 18_ 150 mm lens?
*good job bro*
You're hilarious dude! Thanks for this awesome video!
Did you have stabilisation off or on for these Panning shots?
How do I do panning on what mode on my Nikon D5500? Idk how to make it work
Great video!! In which mode are you photographing?
Oh Curtis! You're a lej 💪
What fstop do you usually use?
Nice video. I never tried it, but after watching this I totally will. Thanks for that...and so much thanks for reviewing my pic. I‘m glad you liked it. Stay safe 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Thanks mate! 🤙🏻🤙🏻
I'm gonna go try this today for work!
Is this mode better in horizontal? I normally use vertical, when I try to do panning.
Did you try it?
Great tips Curtis
Thanks mate! 😁
How can i find one center in my Canon 2000d?
… if someone asks to delete a photo, I’ll just delete to avoid conflict… meanwhile let’s put this dude on blast for the whole internet 6:33 😂 great video sir, and thank you!
Can someone please tell me what focus settings you use ?
Awesome video!! Thanks for sharing!! What about the focus mode? What do you prefer?
To pan, do i switch the shutter button to burst mode?
Yes, you should
Learnt something today
Lmao - Everyone in the cars are just starring back at you👀 🚗
Looking right into my soul 👀😂😂
Hi Curtis. What auto focus mode were you in? Single point, wide tracking? Do you use single or continous? Thanks
thank you. from malaysia
My lenses are 24-200mm f4, and 50mm f1.7. I don't think the 120mm f2.8 macro will be good for this?

what nd filter are you using?

Thanks for tips and i subbed
Which lens are you using in this video? 50mm?
Great video. What focus mode did you use centre tracking or just centre focus
Do you use the view finder to focus or the screen?
Question, why have a microphone on the camera used for photos ?
Switching from photo to filming, makes more sense to keep it on ✌️
Helpful

Hello CP. What would be the best Lens to take Panning Photos? Any recommendation?
Great video! thank you so much
What camera you are using, brother? Can I take such photos by Sony A 7 iv? Thank u
For this video I was rocking A7RIV, you can do, this style of photography with any camera! 🤙
Oh man you can use layer masks and paint out the car. It's so much faster that way!
can panning be slow paced?
I'm new at photography and I wanna buy a canon eos 650d what do you think about 650d thx.
Haven't used it but could be a great starting place. Might give you some more budget to get a couple of lenses as well! 👍🏻
It's possible to panning photography by phone? I just wondering if i can do it with my iPhone 12 pro max with manual settings.
I haven't given it ago, but honestly can't see why not, give it a shot !!
A7M3?
Which focus mode is best for panning shots?
Pretty sure I mentioned this in the video no?
i got a7iii what focus should i use? thanks
I used a center Focus point
Can I use this technique for two cars, or 2 cyclists? I have a photo with 2 cyclists and it seems I can only lasso one of the cyclists...
Is it possible with f4 24-70 mm lens?
Probably
Is possible with everything
wondering why you didn't use Object Selection tool instead of poly tool, it just seems like a faster way of selecting the car ? btw love the video !!
Why and why vertical???
Why not and why not! 😂
Super shots...just want to know is this on manual or auto focus ??
Thank you! I was shooting auto focus with centre focus Point, makes it a lot easier to track and hold focus 👊🏼
@@CurtisPadley thanks buddy !!!!
What do you use for editing these
If only I showed it in the video...
QuestionSo you cant make money on the photos but what about this video you made for UA-cam with monetising… doesn’t that negate it.?
when you are majoring photography and cinema, have to make panning shots but no one taught u in film school 😭
What was your shutter speed for most of the shoot?
It says under all the photos my shutter speed 👍🏻
@@CurtisPadley Oh dang! Missed it. I’ll go back through again!
Isn't the whole point of panning to avoid applying motion blur in Photoshop?
Why shoot at low shutter trying to get motion blur when you're only just going to do it in post?
Do you use autofocus?
I’m taking photography class and I’m not sure how to take panning photos.
Im use 13mm to panning shoot on train
How doese he makes so many photos per second
Everything went so good till I heard I needed photoshop 😭
same here
Just skip that part, you don't need it for all panning shots 🤙

You might want to change that hashtag 🤣
Why?
3 years later select subject
So much quicker these days 😂
Use pen tool...
Edited panning shot 😂
Great tips Curtis
Thank you 🤙🏻🤙🏻
